Warner Bros. is making a Wonder Twins movie for HBO Max. Yes, you read that right, the Wonder Twins. As in, the two purple-clad alien teenagers who can shapeshift when they touch hands and shout “Wonder Twin powers, activate!” Of course, their shapeshifting is somewhat limited as Jayna can only transform into animals and Zan can become water…as in liquid, solid, or vapor. Basically, they’re just useful enough to be the equivalent of interns with the Justice League without overshadowing any of their more traditionally superheroic teammates.
They seem like an unlikely pair of candidates for a superhero movie, don’t they? Adam Sztykiel is writing and directing a film that will go directly to HBO Max, and the studio has tapped Kj Apa (Riverdale) and Isabel May (1883) to play Zan and Jayna. For ’80s kids, the Wonder Twins are almost synonymous with their early experiences with the DC Universe.

One of Fritz Lang’s least-known thrillers had aspects that appealed to him, and he certainly applied his personal viewpoint and visual talents. It’s a period Gothic with women in corsets, about a deranged writer who lets his desires get out of hand. It may be actor Louis Hayward’s best work. Jane Wyatt is the suffering wife, but the real honors go to Dorothy Patrick, in an all-too brief appearance.

Mark Russell & Mike Norton bring a Lot of funny to the new issue of Wonder Twins. Check out an exclusive first look.
Wonder Twins #8 is the funniest issue of the series.
We've been singing Mark Russell's praises 'round these parts for some time, so it's not particularly shocking to hear more of the same. But in a series that has been really funny to this point, it was still surprising to see the eighth issue go so far beyond its predecessors.
It's pretty soul-crushing, as you can see from the exclusive preview pages below. Most of the issue is about regret - the principal's regret on the occasion of his 30th high school reunion as it relates to failed relationships and his lack of success on the Sad Dads Dating App, or Jayna's regrets about how she's handled her friendship with Polly Math later on. It has...

DC Comics' graphic novel, "Mera Tidebreaker", available March 27, 2019, is written by best-selling author Danielle Paige ("Dorothy Must Die") and illustrated by Stephen Byrne, showcasing 'Princess Mera' of 'Atlantis':
"'Mera' is heir to the throne of 'Xebel', a colony ruled by the other land under the sea, 'Atlantis'. Her father, his court and the entire kingdom are expecting her to marry and introduce a new king. But Mera is destined to wear a different crown.
"When the 'Xebellian' military plots to overthrow Atlantis and break free of its oppressive regime, Mera seizes the opportunity to take control of her own destiny by killing 'Arthur Curry', the long-lost prince and heir to the kingdom of Atlantis.
"But her mission gets sidetracked when Mera and Arthur fall in love.

Hello again, and welcome to the recently resurrected Panel Discussion. I’m Kieran, and every week I’m going to go through some of the best comics of the week to give you an idea what you should pick up that you might have missed. This is another stacked week with some fantastic first issues and great jumping on points for books you might be behind on, so let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
This week has two amazing #1′s which are both follow-ups to two of the best miniseries of the past few years. The big release this week, as far as I’m concerned is Kim and Kim: Love is a Battlefield #1 which reunites Kim D and Kim Q for a brand new queer as heck and punk Af adventure. I’ve become a big fan of Mags Visaggio’s writing over the last...

When Rebirth first kicked off one year ago, not many of us predicted that Green Arrow would emerge as one of the strongest titles yielded by the new initiative, but it most certainly happened. And, in the time since, it has remained near the top of the heap for a variety of reasons.
The credit, of course, goes to the talented creators who work on the series, chief among which is writer Benjamin Percy, who can seemingly do no wrong. Having brought back all the classic qualities you love most about Green Arrow comics – Black Canary, most of all – the author has proven that he’s not afraid to take the title in unexpected directions. Yes, bringing back Star City does align with what we know to be familiar, but doing so at the expense of...

We've covered a lot of artist Stephen Byrne's work over the years. His Firefly animated short is excellent, and I really enjoyed his Star Wars follow-up comic to The Force Awakens. Now he's back with his own spin on one of last year's most controversial blockbusters, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I'm inclined to agree with Byrne that if the two characters ever faced off in a "real" battle, it would go almost exactly like this:...

While it’s understandable that DC Entertainment make Green Arrow a higher priority these days given the success of the hit CW television series Arrow, not many of us foresaw Oliver Queen’s comic book exploits becoming one of the best titles the publisher has put out since the Rebirth initiative kicked off last June.
Although the current run has familiar elements like Black Canary and some ties to the TV show like John Diggle, it’s very much a different beast. The Green Arrow himself is less Bruce Wayne-like in behavior and, well, more like Oliver Queen, as he should be. Those who love his social justice warrior quality made popular by the legendary creative team of Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams have had much to enjoy from the current take.
Much of the credit can be given to Benjamin Percy, who has reinvigorated the character like few others ever have.

With Steve Orlando currently penning a slew of titles for DC, there’re always going to be some books that work better than others. Having previously helped out on the first crossover of the Rebirth era, Batman: Night of the Monster Men, Orlando is also helming the newly revamped Supergirl and heading up a big chunk of Justice League of America prelude titles including the main book itself.
One such title is this week’s Justice League of America: The Ray Rebirth #1, which sees Orlando team up with Stephen Byrne on art duty to reimagine one of the Ray’s previous incarnations, Raymond “Ray” Terrill. This issue spends a large amount of time establishing a pretty glaring metaphor for Ray’s life as the infamous “Pennsylvania Night Boy” who’s trapped inside his house due to a deadly aversion to light and his sexuality.

Over the past few years, Batman has certainly had some legendary team ups in the realm of comics that miles of red tape would certainly not allow in live action or even animation, for that matter. Having joined forces with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Green Hornet, and the Avengers (the ones from the old TV series, not the Marvel heroes), fans of dream crossovers have had many reasons to celebrate. In a matter of days, that list is set to expand when the Dark Knight and some of his closest allies will meet up with another iconic group in the pages of Justice League/Power Rangers.
Written by Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us) and illustrated by Stephen Byrne (Green Arrow), this collaboration between DC Entertainment and Boom! Studios is nothing short of groundbreaking. Even Byrne himself couldn’t mask his enthusiasm when recently discussing the visual tone with Newsarama:

Power Rangers teaming up with the Justice League? That would never happen in my wildest dreams....right? Guess we'll have to file that thought under things I would have said yesterday.
Well it looks like Boom Studios and DC Comics will be teaming up to combine the Justice League and the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team. Scheduled for January of 2016 these two teams will unite for a six issue mini series written by Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us, Superior Iron Man) and drawn by Stephen Byrne (Green Arrow, Serenity). As the story will go a teleporter accident transports our Black Ranger Zack to an alternate world where the DC heroes reside.
No more of the story has been revealed but you know how these stories go, misunderstanding between heroes, fight begins, common threat forces them to team up for the greater good. But hey would you care if...

One fan has taken the idea of an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off Star Wars movie into their own hands...
It's been a good week for fan-made trailers for movies and TV shows we'd be interested to see spring out of existing canon. Earlier this week, artist Stephen Byrne graced us with a fan-made trailer for an imagined series called The Animated Adventures Of Firefly. Now, we're getting a fan-made teaser for the Star Wars prequel movie lots of people want: Kenobi: A Star Wars Story.
The teaser heavily borrows footage from Ewan McGregor's Jesus-y Last Days In The Desert to imagine what Obi-Wan Kenobi's life might have been like in the period between Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. Spoiler for a non-existent movie that only has a fan-made teaser trailer? It involves a lot of angsty wandering through the desert.

Joss Whedon's Firefly was gone long before its time but you can't take the sky away from its fans. One very talented artist has created a sneak peek at what an animated series of the beloved sci-fi series could look like. And it's oh, so shiny. Stephen Byrne has been making outrageously good fan art for years now. Previously he did an illustration of the Firefly cast that Whedon responded to saying, "There’s art, then there’s Great Art." He's also done a fun Saturday-morning-cartoon style Doctor Who animation and mashed-up the Whedon-worlds of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Avengers. But he's back to the rag-tag crew this time. Check out the "teaser trailer" for the Animated Adventures of Firefly. It's under a minute long but it's so good! Oddly enough, a Firefly animated adventure was seriously talked about at one point. Actor Sean Maher admitted he...

Though Joss Whedon’s sci-fi series “Firefly” was cancelled after one season almost 14 years ago, its cult fandom rages on well into this decade. Since the series ended in 2002, there has been the feature-length film continuation “Serenity,” as well as a series of comics and even a role-playing game, but the fans are a major part of keeping the series alive in the cultural memory. Case in point: Artist and fan Stephen Byrne recently created a short animated tribute to the series entitled “The Animated Adventures of Firefly Teaser,” featuring the entire Serenity crew. It’s garnered over 250,000 views and earned the seal of approval from star Nathan Fillion. Watch the teaser below, as well as a production diary created two years prior.

We've featured the work of artist Stephen Byrne here on the site before, but this is one of his coolest projects yet. Byrne took to YouTube to reveal his teaser trailer for The Animated Adventures of Firefly, a show that I'm guessing won't ever actually happen because of rights issues. But it's still a blast to watch and think about the possibilities either way! There's some terrific work here, and this has to be bittersweet for diehard fans of Firefly and Serenity out there who've been dying for something like this for years.

If you’ve craved more All Hallows’ Eve adventures since the end credits rolled in Michael Dougherty's 2007 holiday horror anthology, then you're in for a big Halloween treat from Legendary Comics via their new graphic novel, Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead.
Set around October 31st throughout the centuries, Days of the Dead features four macabre tales in which the tricks can be treacherous, but the treats are sweeter than any king-sized candy bar. The stories are collectively penned by Dougherty, Todd Casey, Zach Shields, and Marc Andreyko, and they leave a mark almost as indelible as the tales told onscreen in the Trick 'r Treat film—offering a good number of initial scares and leaving plenty of frightful food for thought to dig into after the last page is turned.

I recently had the chance to sit down with two of the talented writers (director Michael Dougherty was also a writer on the film) behind the upcoming film Krampus, Todd Casey and Zach Shields. Along with Dougherty they are also part of the team responsible for the four part collection of short stories set in the Trick 'r Treat universe, titled Days Of The Dead. While the original film has an extensive cult following, Days Of The Dead also serves as a little taste of what could possibly be a full-fledged film return to Sam's spooky little world.
Gt's Matt Mueller: One of the most noticeable things about all four stories is that at their core is an unexpected sentimentality. It is something I didn’t necessarily expect, but ultimately was a pleasant surprise. There is a lot of heartbreak and pain in these stories, but also a rather big splash of hope,...

Fans of the 2007 horror anthology Trick 'r Treat can now enjoy an early Halloween goodie in the form of Legendary Comics' Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead, a graphic novel containing four eclectic Halloween horror stories and featuring Sam, one of cinema's ultimate enforcers of All Hallow's Eve traditions. For our latest Q&A feature, Daily Dead caught up with two of the comic's co-writers, Todd Casey and Zach Shields, who discussed creating Days of the Dead, co-writing Michael Dougherty's upcoming Krampus film, and much more.
Where did the idea for Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead originate?
Todd Casey: I came late to the party, so I'll defer to the others on this. But my assumption is that people have been waiting a long time for Trick 'r Treat 2 (Mike included) and a comic made sense as a way to begin welcoming people back into that world.

Legendary Comics has announced adaptations of Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat and the upcoming Krampus.
The horror films will be adapted into two graphic novels by Fiona Staples, Mark Andreyko, Brandon Seifert and more.
Trick 'r Treat will be written by Andreyko with art by Staples, Zid, Stuart Sayger and Stephen Byrne.
It follows in the vein of the film with four more horror-themed tales.
Writer Seifert will be joined by artists Michael Montenat, Stuart Sayger, Maan House and Christian Dibari on Krampus.
It is inspired by the horror comedy about the ancient Christmas demon and his "maniacal holiday-themed henchmen".
Dougherty devised the stories for both books with Zach Shields and Todd Casey.
"I've been having way too much fun working with Legendary and the rest of my team bringing the ancient legend of Krampus to the big screen, and I look forward to expanding the film's dark Christmas mythology onto the comic page,...

One stalks the streets as trick-or-treaters ring doorbells and handfuls of candy are given away. Another visits naughty children's homes on Christmas Eve with the intention of gobbling the little terrors. Holiday creatures Sam and Krampus are celebrated and feared and are featured in the films of Michael Dougherty, the former in 2007's Trick ’r Treat (as well as the in-development Trick ’r Treat 2) and the latter in the upcoming Krampus. Looking to dive deeper into the rich worlds of these two holiday enforcers, the folks at Legendary Comics have announced Trick ’r Treat and Krampus graphic novels that are slated to hit comic shop shelves later this year:
Press Release - "Legendary Comics is taking the twisted stories from the mind of Michael Dougherty from the screen to the printed page with the announcement of two graphic novels based on Trick 'r Treat and Krampus. Hitting stores later this year,...

Artist and animator Stephen Byrne is currently working on a new fan-made animated project called The Animated Adventures of Firefly. He released a brief two second emotional clip from this upcoming short that features the characters Zoe and Wash reuniting. It’s really quite wonderful, and you can see all of the hard work that went into creating this 2-second gif clip that you see above and in a behind-the-scenes video below.
We’ve posted a lot of Byrne’s art over the past year, and a couple of other fan-made animated shorts that he’s created. You can watch his Buffy the Vampire Slayer video here, and his Doctor Who video here.
Firefly was such an amazing show, and thanks to fans like Byrne, the classic series will live on and fans like us can enjoy things like this that brighten our days. I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like!

Artist Stephen Byrne created this amusing piece of fan art that features Quicksilver from X-Men: Days of Future Past and Quicksilver from Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it seems as if they're ready to race. The piece is called "You Gotta Be Fast in This Business."
I loved the portrayal of this character in Days of Future Past by actor Evan Peters. He was my favorite character in the movie. We've only has a little glimpse of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver in Age of Ultron, but from what I've seen he looks cool!
Do you think director Joss Whedon's version of the character will be better than Bryan Singer's? ...

It’s undeniable that the cult horror-fantasy series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the “Whedonverse” in general have a pretty hardcore and devoted following. With many of such an ilk likely traveling the strands of the internet onto this very site, we proudly present this silly animated homage created by Seattle-based artist, Stephen Byrne. Brimming with references to the series’ torrid history, little nods to Joss Whedon’s other works, and a few random offshoots and mash-ups, the one minute video is a breezy 60 seconds of bliss for fans.
Be sure and set to full-screen to catch all the easter eggs hidden along the way. Enjoy!

Back in 2002 there was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series that was in development, but unfortunately, nothing ever happened with it. I still think something like that would be a big hit. Thanks to Stephen Byrne, we have an awesome animated reimagining of the series called "The Animated Adventures of Buffy." It basically shows us what the opening sequence of a series like this might be like, and he threw in some fun Easter eggs for the fans.
Byrne is the same guy who brought us the animated adventures of Doctor Who and Firefly. The guy does a great job with this stuff, and he has a really fun style. This is one of my favorite things that he's done, probably because I'm such a big fan of the series. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was such an awesome show! It's one of those shows I wish had never gone away.

Here's an awesome animated short that shows us what Doctor Who might be like as an animated series that followed the adventures of the Twelfth Doctor and Clara. The video was created by Stephen Byrne, and it's done as an opening sequence. It comes complete with animated reimaginings of a Dalek, a Weeping Angel, a Cyberman, and more. If you like it, you can see more of his art here, here, and here. Thanks to The Mary Sue.

A Doctor Who mega-fan has created an amazing video, 'The Animated Adventures of Doctor Who'.
Stephen Byrne has put together the short clip which sees Peter Capaldi's Doctor time-hopping in a cartoon Tardis. Watch below:
An animated Capaldi and Jenna Coleman face haunted suits of armour, dinosaurs and the terrifying Weeping Angels.
Meanwhile, Doctor Who will return to BBC One at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 23.
Jenna Coleman has promised a "darker" series with a "firecracker" new Doctor.
Capaldi's Time Lord will share a "strange and charming" friendship with Coleman's Clara, the actress revealed.

You may have noticed that some of the GeekTyrant editors are really into pin-up art, especially geek heroines redrawn as pin-up models. There is actually a lot of behind the scenes debate at GeekTyrant about what is appropriate and what crosses the line into gross/offensive. Obviously, superheroines are sexy and powerful, and artists like to have fun with that. In this piece, artist Stephen Byrne takes a shot at the sometimes ridiculously over the top sexualization of female superheroes, wondering what it would look like “If Male Superheroes Were Treated Equally by Pin-up Artists.” He posted it to his Facebook page with a note:
I fear I may have gone too far this time.
I’m sure this is something we’d all like to see more of, right? Clearly the boys have gotten into the Benetint. We’ve posted some of Byrnes’ more G-rated work for you to check out before.

I'm pretty sure that most of you Doctor Who fans are going to get a kick out of this illustration that reimagines all thirteen Doctors in the style of Disney animated movie characters. The piece was created by Stephen Byrne, and it comes with the amazingly fantastic tag line, "She wished for a prince, she got thirteen."
There were a few complaints from some of the hardcore Doctor Who fans regarding this piece on his Facebook page, but Byrne released a humorous response to all those people who are looking to find faults in his work:
"I would like to thank the people who took the time to point out some errors in my recent ‘Disney Doctor Who’ post. It has been rightfully brought to my attention that ‘some of the designs aren't exactly....Up to par....2 and 4 are too short’ and ‘6 looks like a looks like clown, 2 looks like a dwarf,...

As much as I'd love it, I doubt we will ever see a Firefly adventure brought to life again. If it never happens as a live action project, it would be pretty awesome to see it turned into an animated adventure. Here's great illustration by Stephen Byrne that gives us an idea of what the crew of Serenity might look in the style of a Disney animated production. Joss Whedon actually tweeted the art with the following comment,
"There's art, then there's Great Art…"
I also included another Disney inspired illustration from the same artist featuring Buffy and Angel.
