- When the ancient continent of Mu sank beneath the ocean, some of its inhabitant survived in caverns beneath the sea. Cowboy singer Gene Autry stumbles upon the civilization, now buried beneath his own Radio Ranch. The Muranians have developed technology and weaponry such as television and ray guns. Their rich supply of radium draws unscrupulous speculators from the surface. The peaceful civilization of the Muranians is corrupted by the greed from above, and it becomes Autry's task to prevent all-out war, ideally without disrupting his regular radio show.

- Plantation owner William Hawkes (David Newell) doesn't approve of the fact that most of the white men on the island have married, or are living with native girls. One night, after several hours of hard drinking, he sees Leilani (Mona Maris) bathing on the beach, and he watches her until he can resist his craving no longer. He catches her in his arms and she willingly accepts his embraces. She comes to live with him and waits on him hand and foot. Hawkes goes to San Francisco for a planter's convention and, when he returns, brings back society girl Lucille Cheney (Virginia Cherrill) as his wife. Leilana is heart-broken, while Lucille becomes quickly bored with her husband and Hawaii. Her boredom ends when Chandler Morris (Hardie Albright) sails into port on his yacht and he and Lucille begin an affair. Hawks drinks to forget. He catches Lucille and Chandler together and a fight ensues, Lucille, in an effort, to save her lover throws a kerosene lamp into the ripe sugar cane and fire spreads in all directions.
- A young lawyer is elected mayor of the city and promises to rid it of the corruption it's famous for. The problem is that most of the corruption he's vowed to eliminate is caused by the crooked political machine that helped elect him.

That leaves Jim Thorne, the only man who has ever bested Lutze in anything and, while Jim is an adventurer and pirate-at-heart, he knows how to be a gentleman, especially to the only white woman in town or on the island. Lutze is offended. They play poker for a plantation, Ellen, and all the pearls in the Pacific; the loser gets Poppi. Lutz has a marked deck of cards.
- "Mark's Priory," the Lebanons' family seat, is a house of terror to Ilsa Crane, Lady Lebanon's niece and secretary. The strange behavior of two sinister footmen, Gilder and Brooks, adds greatly to her fear, and her sole consolation lies in the sympathy extended her by young Lord William "Willie" Lebanon. A young architect, Richard Ferraby, arrives from London to inspect the ancient home in regards to renovations, and he and Isla are immediately attracted to each other. Lady Lebanon tells her son that he must marry Isla to carry on the family name but Lord Willie tells her he has no intentions of marrying. Later, the family physician, Dr. Amersham, arrives and it is evident he has some hold over Lady Lebanon. The chauffeur, Studd, hints that he knew Amersham in India and that Amersham was discharged from the Indian Army under unsavory circumstances. Isla and Richard find Studd murdered and suspicion falls on the gamekeeper, Tilling, whose wife had been more than a little friendly with Studd. But Chief Inspector Tanner and Deputy Sergeant Totty arrive from Scotland Yard and uncover evidence that points to Dr. Aversham as the killer, and Lord Willie substantiates the clue by telling them that Aversham had strangled a young Eurasian girl in India by using a red scarf--and Studd was found strangled with a red scarf. Just when the police are about to fold up their tidy little case, a telegram arrives from "Mark's Priory" informing them that Aversham has just been found murdered--strangled with a red scarf. Back to the drawing board.
- A newlywed couple is visited by a strange old woman who harbors a secret about the young girl's father.
- Marion Hastings, absent from her Australian home, Rangle River Station, for many years while completing her education in Europe, receives a letter from Dick Drake, her father's ranch foreman, demanding she return home immediately. Marion, together with her chaperon, Aunt Abbie, flies home. While making flight connections at the Singapore Airport, they meet Flight-Lieutenant Reginald Mannister, an Englishman on his way to India. Attracted to Marion, however, he switches his tickets and embarks for Australia, receiving an invitation to stay at Rangle River Station. Upon arrival, Marion discovers Drake fighting with a rival ranch-foreman and, properly disgusted with his improper manners, she gives him a good dressing-down regarding his "brutal exhibition." Arriving at the old homestead, it is obvious to Marion why she has been called home; Rangle River Station is being beset by drought. Meanwhile, Lawton, a neighboring ranch-owner who has designs on the meat-contract held by Dan Hastings,endeavors to impoverish Rangle River Station further by secretly blocking off on his property, the river from which Hastings' cattle get their water. Meanwhile, Reggie flies over Lawton's property and confirms his suspicions that Lawton has dammed up the river. Lawton blows up the dam to free the water. But Marion is galloping up the dry river-bed and is trapped by the torrent of on-rushing water.
- There's an epidemic of missing girls in the city. The new assistant district attorney has to figure out what's going on before he loses his job, especially with a nosy reporter making his life difficult.
- Rancher "Utah" Neyes crosses the border into Canada to meet his partner, only to find that the latter has been murdered by a gang led by "Nails" Nelson. "Utah", with the aid of RCMP Jack Craig and fur-trapper Ivy Jenkins, manages to clear his own name of suspicion and also break up Nelson's fur-stealing and smuggling racket.

- Frankie Terris and Mannie Robbins are the two most powerful gangsters in their city. Frankie has a young sister, Louise, whom he has kept at a boarding school away from the stench of his racketeering. Mannie's young son, Joe, is also ignorant of his father's profession. Louise and Joe meet, and Joe tries to make love to her. Frankie interrupts and, in a fight that follows, kills Joe. Mannie vows to get Frankie. The latter, sentenced to Alcatraz, fears for Louise's safety and makes her promise to take a trip abroad. Louise learns that Mannie plans to shoot Frankie on the train taking him to prison, and she stows away in hopes of warning her brother. On the train, she falls into the protective arms of Federal Agent Bill Adams. Before she has a chance to warn Frankie, Mannie's henchmen go to work and a gangland shootout ensues.
- Lawyer Rontel has made Geologist Sheffield his prisoner and by power of attorney is using his money to buy the ranches of those driven off by his hired men. But when he goes after Hayden, Tucson and Stoney arrive and things begin to change.

- Buzzy O'Brien is a bellhop in a hotel where a guest is murdered. The police blame Kitty Monahan and Buzzy succeeds in helping her escape and hides her at his home with his mother.
- Sylvia Walton returns from Harlem to take over a Jamaican plantation from her vindictive half-sister, amid the growing sound of drums.
- Prizefighter Bob Neal (Ray Walker) is in debt to gangster Vic Santell (Hooper Atchley) for training expenses. Santell orders Bob to take a dive in the fourth round so Santell can recoup prior gambling losses. Taunted by his ring opponent, Bob wins the fight. Realizing that his profession and underworld characters connected to it are causing him problems, Bob decides to join the police force. After taking nurse Mary Prentiss (Geneva Mitchell) to a drive-in restaurant where the total bill is a depression-era cheap eighty-two cents, Bob and his fellow officers round-up a gang of fur thieves in a warehouse shoot-out.
- Prison escapee Utah Evans kills Sheriff McClay. Joe Norton was McClay's predecessor and sent Utah to prison. Ma McClay having taken over as Sheriff for her husband, now gets Joe to return. Joe sets out to get Utah and Utah, learning Joe is after him, hopes to get revenge for being sent to prison.
- A gold-digging woman wins a big settlement against an older married man, which threatens to destroy the man's family. His son, discovering that the woman is part of a ring of blackmailers and that she is planning to flee the country, takes along his hulking chauffeur and follows her onto an ocean liner. There the two pretend to be a pair of wealthy playboys so that the woman will make a play for him and try to blackmail him, too, so he can then expose her and prove his father's innocence. Complications ensue.
- An "exotic dancer" is thrown in jail for "lewd activity." She later discovers the raid was set up by her boss to get publicity.
- Notorious Mexican bandit El Malo forces the Mayor of Sierra Blanca, Seth Landport, to open the safe and turn over to him 2,000 pesos, which the bandit gives a promissory note for to the Mayor. Seth rushes to the cantina where Sheriff Rankin is drinking, and the sheriff posts a reward for the capture of El Malo. El Malo informs his men of the reward. The bandit and his sidekick Pedro visit the cantina where Pedro resumes a former acquaintance with Dolores, while El Malo has his attention directed to a tango being performed by Carmita. El Malo pushes her dancing partner aside and finishes the dance with Carmita. Since Seth's description of him is inaccurate, "El May" visits the sheriff and promises to deliver the wanted bandit to the cantina the following night. The next morning, El Malo and Pedro depart and, halting their horses on a hill, they view the stagecoach being held up by a trio of outlaws. They follow the outlaws to their hideout, where they discover the leader is the trusted town-mayor Seth. El Malo tells him to be in the cantina that night. Then things get involved, including the wrath of the displaced tango partner. El Malo handles it all without breaking a sweat.
- Pierre Gilieth has committed a murder in Paris. He flees to Barcelona, where he runs out of money. So he joins the Spanish Foreign Legion. He meets there two fellow countrymen, Mulot and Lucas. He tries to forget his fault... but Lucas's friendship soon appears to be less unselfish...

But Margie, a school friend, telephones Ruth to invite her to go night-clubbing with two boys. Ruth declines but Lillian hops on board. She meets Gerald Winthrop. She falls for Gerald Winthrop. Gerald skids his car into a deep rut. Gerald says he can't move the car and, since it is raining, they should seek shelter in a nearby motel/tourist court. They do...and stay all night. But Gerald is something of a cad and a bounder, and he soon takes up with Ruth. The fickle Gerald soon proposes to Ruth. This is about the time that Lillian discovers has left her with impending-child. This is not a good situation.

- Bill travels to a new state after the outlaw Scarface saves him from a lynch mob. There he takes a job on the Barton ranch and joins in the fight against gang leader Larkin. Finding a wounded Scarface he helps him recover. Arrested by Larkin's stooge Sheriff, and with another lynch mob after him, he once again needs Scarface's help.
- Bob rides into a border town where he runs into trouble with Lambert and his gang. Herb arrests him claiming he is the outlaw El Diablo. But it was just to save him from Lambert's gang and the two now plan to trap the outlaws.
