- On 25th June, 1876, the Sioux and the Cheyenne, under Chief Sitting Bull, defeated the U.S. 7th Cavalry, under Lieut. Col. George Armstrong Custer, in the battle of the Little Bighorn. Sent against the Plains Indians to drive them out of the Black Hills of Dakota and back onto the reservations, Custer's last stand became one of the most controversial battles fought on American soil. Using original drawings and photographs, as well as limited reconstruction and aerial photography of the site, this film first traces the course of the battle and then establishes the historic background to the issues that led to the confrontation and its tragic aftermath.
