- A city festival in the former East German city of Chemnitz has been changed with mourning and protests as one German citizen was reportedly stabbed to death and other two injured in what police at first described as "a dispute between several people of different nationalities." German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned far-right protesters who were "hunting down" foreigners in street mobs following the killing of a German man, allegedly by a Syrian and an Iraqi. The far-right movement PEGIDA called for demonstrations for a second straight day after a gathering of around 800 people in the city of Chemnitz in the country's ex-communist east degenerated into violent chaos, forcing police to call in reinforcements.
- Sheindi Miller-Ehrenwald kept her diary hidden for 75 years. As a 14-year-old, she secretly and at risk of death wrote down her dramatic experiences during the Holocaust on 54 cards in a weapons factory. Sheindi's struggle for survival begins with her deportation in 1944 from the then Hungarian Galanta to the Auschwitz extermination camp. There she experiences the unimaginable horror, also meets the "angel of death", the camp doctor Dr. Josef Mengele. After all, she is used as a forced laborer in a German arms factory.

If they are built, scientists believe that could alter the entire Amazon basin forever. So if Charlie doesn't do it now, he may never be able to.
