Mellaire and The Rat are washed overboard and Pike, now severely injured, gives both command of the ship and Margaret's hand to Dick.

When Matthew's uncle offers Dazie money for a divorce, she refuses, but says that she will agree to a divorce if Matthew really wants one. Matthew develops a new interest in life and realizes he loves Dazie when he becomes jealous through a misunderstanding. After his uncle, seeing Dazie's effect on Matthew, threatens to disinherit him for good if he does divorce her, Matthew confesses his love.
- Viviette, the impulsive, coquettish adopted daughter of wealthy Englishwoman Mrs. Ware, completes her education and returns to her mother's country estate. Young Dick Ware, who is as impulsive as Viviette, falls passionately in love with her, and although she is attracted to him, his lack of ambition causes her to conceal her affections. When Dick's sober, successful brother Austin takes leave from his London law practice to visit his family, Viviette befriends him, and the two secretly make plans to secure Dick a position in Vancouver. Although Austin loves Kathryn Holroyd, Dick believes that Austin is in love with Viviette, so when the latter jokingly suggests that the brothers fight a duel over her, Dick takes the idea seriously. He nearly kills Austin, whereupon Viviette, realizing the gravity of the situation, offers to accompany Dick to Vancouver as his wife.
- Envious of the wealth of her classmates at the fashionable boarding school to which her parents struggled to send her, Millicent Rankin hides the fact that her father is a plumber. She invites her friend Beatrice Deering to her home, which she describes as lavish, for the vacation, but thinks that Beatrice will refuse. The embarrassment Millicent feels when she receives a wire that Beatrice is coming causes her mother pain, but when Millicent's sister becomes ill with scarlet fever, Millicent goes instead to Beatrice's country residence where she hopes to meet a rich husband. At the Deerings', Millicent is soon disappointed with society's mores. After almost succumbing to the advances of Elmer Lacy, who secretly is carrying on an affair with Beatrice's stepmother, Millicent protects Mrs. Deering's reputation by humiliating herself. When she learns that her mother is ill, Millicent rushes home and discovers happiness with her family and her old sweetheart.
- John Stuart Webster having prospecting in Death Valley prosperously, boards a train for Denver and rescues Dolores Ruey, a beautiful Central American girl who was reared in the United States, from a masher. Webster learns that his pal Billy Geary has discovered gold in Sobrante, Central America. He leaves to help, but develops ptomaine poisoning on the way. After recovering in New Orleans, Webster saves a man from being killed in a park. Later, the man, Ricardo Ruey, hides in Webster's steamer room and relates that his father, the former president of Sobrante, was assassinated by the present ruler, Sarros. In Sobrante, Webster finds that Geary is in love with Dolores, who arrived earlier. After sending Geary to marry Dolores while he develops the mine, Webster learns that Dolores is Ricardo's sister, although neither knows this. While fighting for the victorious Ricardo, who becomes president, Webster is wounded. He recovers to find Dolores nursing him, and when she says that she does not love Geary, he confesses his love and soon plans are made to marry.
- Shirley Kaye is the vivacious daughter of Egerton Kaye, president of the great Union Central Railroad. The latter holds his position through his descent from "Pirate" Kaye, who founded the line, rather than through any executive ability of his own. Shirley is queen of the most exclusive Long Island set, and as clever as she is lovely to look at. From the West comes T.J. Magen, a rough but lion-hearted financier, who buys the house next door to the Kayes. Magen cares little for society, and the elaborate household which their wealth forces them to support is a constant worry to his simple and unassuming wife. But the daughter, "Daisy," yearns, with all her heart to break into the society and swim where Shirley Kaye reigns supreme. T.J. and his younger associate, John Rowson, who, incidentally, hates all women, especially Easterners, secure a majority of the proxies of Union Central shareholders. Believing that new blood would improve the finances of the U.C, they determine to oust Egerton Kaye, the figure-head president, at the next directors' meeting. With breaking heart Kaye tells his daughter of the impending blow, which means not alone the loss of his position but also the loss of the family interest in the road. Shirley, angered at the conspiracy, rises supremely to the emergency. She uses her wiles on T.J., dickers with him for his daughter's social position and agrees to give Daisy her heart's desire if he will ally himself with the Kaye interests. She wins the allegiance of Magen, but Rowson, believing her to be a cold-blooded seeker after money and social position, abruptly severs his connections with the venture and leaves for the west. In the end Shirley goes after him and proves herself as capable in love piracy as in the realm of high finance.
- When Jim Rainey receives a letter from his niece, Hope Deering, who lives in New England, that she will visit his Western ranch and expects romance and adventure, he pastes a photograph of his friend, Percival Montgomery Edwards, on the wanted poster of murderer Steve Logan. Logan is in jail awaiting a trial, so Jim persuades "Monte" to assume Logan's role. Monte moves to Logan's dugout abode, and tantalizes Hope with lurid tales of his misdoings. She falls in love and after he explains that his life as a badman began when he was struck on the head, Jim tells Hope to cure him by hitting his head again. Logan breaks out of prison and, through his window, sees Hope knock Monte unconscious. After Logan abducts her, Monte awakens and pursues them. When he sees Logan threaten to kill Hope to make a posse disperse, Monte places his signet ring at Logan's neck and says it is a gun. Logan surrenders, and even though Hope learns the truth about Monte, she still loves him.
- A huge crowd of people in bathing suits display themselves in front of the camera. They wave the photographer, hug and bathes. Most part of the movie is just the shores and the cliff side of Kullen beach.
- In the hope of becoming rich and famous, Walter Fabre, a medical student, devotes all his time to study and refuses the invitation of his fellow-students to join them in merry-making. Walter falls asleep and dreams that Mephistopheles appears and tells him that he can make his fame and fortune by giving him the power to foretell the death or recovery of a patient; in the event of death Mephisto will appear at the head, and in case of recovery he will appear at the feet of the patient. To prove his superhuman power he tells Walter that he will save the life of the King, who has been given up by all authorities. Walter gains admission to the King's bedside and while diagnosing the case. Mephistopheles appears at the foot. The King recovers and Walter becomes famous. Sometime later a beautiful young Baroness and her mother are out driving and the latter is fatally injured in an accident. The young Baroness, Ida Shinting, summons Walter and when he arrives at the bedside he sees Mephisto at the head, and knows the meaning thereof. He is so charmed with Ida's beauty that he beseeches his master to spare the Baroness's life. Mephisto agrees, but warns Walter that in return he will someday take from him his dearest. Ida and Walter are married; five years later their little daughter is taken seriously ill. Finding Mephisto at her head Walter tries to thwart him by turning the child around. Again Mephisto takes his place at the head. Then the father, trying to cheat him again, places his daughter in a chair. She dies, however, and shortly after the funeral Walter himself becomes sick; he discovers by his head Mephisto, who says that he has come to exact punishment for the attempts Walter made to deceive him. Walter awakes with a start, and realizing that fame and wealth are not the only things in life, merrily joins his colleagues.
- Two crooks employ a trained ape to carry out jewel robberies and the detective in charge of the case eventually traces the animal as the perpetrator of the thefts as it often leaves the imprint of a small hand at the scene of the crime.
