- The festival takes place since 1996 and focuses on independent, undistributed films. After a break in 2002, the festival is now reorganized and run by DEFMAN, which also organizes the Deep Ellum Film Festival in Dallas, Texas.
- In 2007, the festival was reorganized by a Santa Monica based non-profit organization and produced by local filmmakers.
