- DirectorRichard FleischerStarsKirk DouglasJames MasonPaul LukasA ship sent to investigate a wave of mysterious sinkings encounters the advanced submarine, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo.A true masterpiece of Disney. This was not their very first live action film (that was Treasure Island, released in 1950), but it was probably their first major motion picture. The film managed to get three of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the time: Kirk Douglas, James Mason, and Peter Lorre.
The plot is based on the famous Jules Verne novel of the same name, and it manages to stay true to the novel, while at the same time being unique and distinctive from the original story.
Basicly, the plot takes place in the mid-19th Century. Reports of a sea monster are occuring all over the world. University Professor Pierre Aronnax, played by Paul Lukas, and his assistant, Conseil, played by Peter Lorre, are hired on an expedition to find the sea monster, and determine any truth to the reports. Along with harpooner Ned Land, played by Kirk Douglas, they set off.
Eventually, the ship unexpectedly finds the monster, when it attacks, Aronnax and Ned Land both fall overboard, and Conseil jumps in after them. The three men find themselves on the monster, and discover it to be a highly advanced submarine led by Captain Nemo, played by James Mason. They find themselves embarking on an amazing adventure through the Oceans of the world.
The film has some amazing underwater photography, and it has some great and memorable scenes, the most famous being the part near the end when Captain Nemo and his crew have to fight off a giant squid.
Sadly this film isn't very well recognized among modern audiences. I can't tell you how many people I know who say they're Disney fans and yet had never even heard of this film before I mentioned it. It is a shame because this is such an amazing movie that I think deserves to be recognized better.
This is definetly a great movie, and I think you should pick it up if you can find it. - DirectorJames CameronStarsEd HarrisMary Elizabeth MastrantonioMichael BiehnA civilian diving team is enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and faces danger while encountering an alien aquatic species.A very interesting movie by award-winning director James Cameron, the genius behind Titanic and Avatar. The film contains some brilliant undewater photography, a well written plot, and some good actors.
I'm not going to give away too much of the plot, but I can tell you the basics. Basicly the film begins with an accident aboard a nuclear submarine. A group of civillian divers, the leader of whom is played by Ed Harris (Apollo 13, National Treasure: Book of Secrets). He's joined by his ex-wife, played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Perfect Storm) and a group of Navy Seals led by Lt. Coffey, played by Micheal Beihn (Aliens).
The team of divers and Navy Seals attempt to investigate the submarine, and find no survivors. After the investigation, they find things starting to go wrong. Some of the crew also begins to suspect they are not alone. - DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsSean ConneryAlec BaldwinScott GlennIn November 1984, the Soviet Union's best submarine captain violates orders and heads for the U.S. in a new undetectable sub. The American CIA and military must quickly determine: Is he trying to defect or to start a war?Sean Connery, best known for playing the original James Bond, as well as his role as Henry Jones Sr., stars as the Captain of a Russian submarine. He actually does a pretty good job of playing the role even with his distinctive Scottish accent.
The film features a cast consisting of a number of big-name actors, most notably Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery, but also has some other big-names like James Earl Jones. It also has a few brief cameos (watch for Dr. Crusher near the beginning).
The story is pretty decent. Basicly, its plot involves a Russian Submarine called the Red October, commanded by Sean Connery, who defies his orders and takes it towards the United States. Some of the government believe he intends to fire his missiles, while CIA agent Jack Ryan, played by Alec Baldwin, believes he is trying to defect, and finds he has to find the captain before anyone else destroys the Red October - DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsCary GrantTony CurtisJoan O'BrienDuring World War II, a commander finds himself stuck with a decrepit (and pink) submarine, a con man executive officer, and a group of army nurses. The classic comedy with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis, Operation Petticoat.
Basicly the plot involves Cary Grant as the captain of a submarine during the second world war. The aforementioned submarine gets badly damaged in an air raid.
In an effort to fix it, Cary Grant enlists the help of another officer played by Tony Curtis, who manages to (illegally) get the neccessary materials to get the submarine afloat. Hilarity ensues once they take the submarine into the ocean and rescue a group of nurses, and through a strange series of events, Cary Grant ends up in command of a pink submarine.
This is definitely one I'd reccommend if you like submarine movies. It's not the most accurate account of submarine warfare at the time, but it is still an enjoyable film with two great actors in the lead. - DirectorGeorge DunningStarsPaul McCartneyGeorge HarrisonRingo StarrThe Beatles agree to accompany Captain Fred in his yellow submarine and go to Pepperland to free it from the music-hating Blue Meanies.Yes, this is a real movie, although a very strange one. Yellow Submarine is a rather strange animated film about a strange world under the sea known as "Pepperland". This place gets attacked by the Evil Blue Meanies, and a man finds himself escaping in a Yellow Submarine, which he uses to travel to Liverpool and enlist the help of the Beatles.
This is a very strange film, but it is pretty entertaining, and I'd definitely reccommend it if you are a Beatles fan.
