Kishore is in love with Rita and would like to get married to her. The family know that Gokulchand will never approve of this as Rita comes from a poor family and lives with her widowed aunt, so they decide to get them engaged in Gokulchand's absence. Devki borrows an expensive diamond necklace from her friend, Savitri, and, in turn, lends it to Rita. For a very long time, the family do not hear from Gokulchand, and when he returns home - they get a shock - for he has dyed his hair black, and has an Caucasian girlfriend, Dolly Little, along with her to-be son-in-law, Jerry; a son, William and daughter, Kitty. Chaos and acrimony reign when Gokulchand makes it clear that he is going to get married to Dolly, as well as the subsequent theft of twenty five Thousand Rupees, which Gokulchand suspects was both stolen by Kishore. Things get even more complicated when the family are asked to leave, and while re-locating to a shanty hut, they find the necklace missing. The questions remain what will be the outcome of Gokulchand's marriage; that of his estranged family; and how they will repay the cost of the missing necklace?

The couple name their child, Shankar, who becomes friendly with Shomu much to the chagrin of Pratap, who instructs his staff to house Shomu in the stables. Parvati loves both boys equally, and the two children grow up almost like brothers, with Shankar falling in love with wealthy Seema, and Shomu wooing village belle Shaguna much to the displeasure of her to-be father-in-law, Balram, who complains to Pratap, who, in turn, asks Shomu to leave. Subsequently Shomu falls very ill and Parvati wants to go and see him. Pratap makes it clear that if she leaves - then she will not be welcomed back. The question remains what will Parvati do under these circumstances?

The groom comes out to be Chander, who was responsible for getting Sheila declared a pervert and deceived her. Ashok tries to stop Kavita's marriage with this crook. Chander attacks Ashok with a knife but Sheila takes the knife on her body. Chander abducts Kavita and runs away. Ashok saves Kavita. On a hospital bed, Sheila asks Ashok to marry Kavita and dies.

Shortly after he leaves, Roopa and her mom beat up poor Shobha again and have her thrown out. She relates this story to Amar's parents', who feel sorry for her and allow her to live at their house. Things take a turn for the worse for Shobha, when Amar's mom finds out from Roopa's mom, that Shobha had been asked to leave as she is pregnant, with the identity of the father unknown.

He finds out that nothing has changed, Ramesh, though rendered penniless by Tara, still hates him; and Satish is wooing Roopa, is engaged to her and a marriage date has been fixed. Shankar's love is now replaced by vengeance and hate, and all he can think of is destroying the lives of Ramesh, Roopa, Satish and his sister, Mala, and he has several plans which he intends to put to use one by one.

However, destiny made Mir Qasim grab the Magic Lamp and with its help he succeeded in foiling the marriage ceremony of the two lovers. The king and Ashiq were thrown in the dungeon. Rukhsana was sent to his bed chamber to satiate his lust.

Employed by the Rajbahadur as Manager of his household, Shyam has many opportunities to court Shanta, and he does so with a succession of songs and in style. Shanta however is a misandrist (a woman who hates men) as a result of her traumatic childhood. Rita (Laxmi Chhaya) who has been brought in by the Rajbahadur to help Shanta mend her unmannerly ways has given up and admits defeat. Taming the shrew is a challenge that only Shyam can take up. But how will he deal with a woman who believes in "fall from a hilltop, fall from above, fall from anywhere, but never fall in love"? She even writes up a placard "Men are beasts". Shanta's ego is further stoked by Devdass who serenades her in Scottish attire playing a bagpipe. A road trip in a rare right hand drive open top Buick to a hill station (Khandala) in the Western Ghats is a turning point in Shanta's behaviour. Retired Colonel Jung Bahadur provides a couple of comic interludes and is pivotal as the plot unfolds.

This accomplished, he rushes to free his beloved from the dungeons. He does set her free but it is not the same Amrapali; this Amrapali is quite different. She is not at all thrilled to be in the presence of her conqueror lover. She teaches him what he won in the battle ground but what he lost in reality.
