"Sex-Romps" or what I like to call "Boob-Comedies" 1979-1988
Let's be honest. Most of these movies are pretty bad. Many featured big stars in some of their earliest(if not first) roles(Cruise, Robbins, Depp, Hanks, Carrey, Etc). In the end, they were nothing more than invites for underage kids to rent R-Rated movies: Pause, Rewind, Repeat. Renting R-Rated movies was easier than getting into one in the '80s.
These 'sex-romps' did carve out their own little genre - especially from '82 to '86. That's part of what made 1990's "Ski School" such a delight. It was a throwback from the mid-80's. I know it's out of the time-frame by a couple years, but it belongs on here.
Nearly every movie on here save "Weird Science", "Just One of the Guys", "The Woman in Red", and "Once Bitten" are R-Rated with plenty of Nudity, but I thought those films belonged because of their heavy use of sexual themes, and because of when they were released. The Woman in Red is the only PG or PG-13 film that I know of that has full-frontal nudity(however quick it may be). :) Look ma, no more hairy palms.
Some flicks were left out for other reasons: "Summer of '42" for time-frame, "Oddballs" for cleanliness(and general "terribleness"), and all the new-age sex-romps like, "The Girl Next Door", or "Bachelor Party 2", even though both are great examples of the sub-genre. Everything on this list falls from '79 to '90. I'm going to keep it that way. I'm always on the lookout for stuff I missed. The list contains only films that I have seen, so if you have any suggestions, leave a comment.

- DirectorPeter MarkleStarsDavid NaughtonPatrick HouserTracy SmithHarkin Banks heads to skiing championships in California. A teen runaway tags along as he parties and competes with friends and foes. The number of ski-sightings and breast sightings 'mount-up' at an even clip. A guilty pleasure. Tracy Smith and the similarly beautiful Shannon Tweed provide the eye-candy, and Patrick Houser provides the terrible performance on and off the slopes.
- DirectorCurtis HansonStarsTom CruiseJackie Earle HaleyJohn StockwellSet in 1965, four rowdy teenage guys travel to Tijuana, Mexico for a night of partying when they are joined by a heartbroken housewife who is in town seeking a quick divorce. This is one of the better films on the list, and to be quite honest, it's not good. That said, the story and the acting are better than most of these sex-romps. A couple of decent performances highlight this Mexicana-coming-of-age-romp starring a young, naive Tom Cruise AND Jackie Earle Haley.
- DirectorMark GriffithsStarsGrant CramerTeal RobertsGary WoodThree middle aged guys rent a beach house to hopefully score with young, single women. Not having what it takes, the men hire a sexy young surfer, Scotty, to teach them some game and help them meet girls.Knock-out box-art turned this not-so-hot film into a rental blockbuster.
- DirectorMark GriffithsStarsJames KarenLouise BakerAlexandros MylonasA film crew is travelling from America to Greece to produce a movie. Before their work is done they will have to face many unusual situations, along with numerous opportunities for the actresses to take their clothes off.Worse than the first? Yes. Looks worse than someone who decided to shoot soft-porn on their iphone during a stale vacation.
- DirectorBob ClarkStarsDan MonahanMark HerrierWyatt KnightIn 1954, a group of Florida high-school guys try to help their buddy lose his virginity, which leads them to seek revenge on a sleazy nightclub owner and his redneck sheriff brother for harassing them.Perhaps the most recognized entry, but it's not the best. Porky's underlying 'serious' subplots would later re-appear in many sex romps, like Losin' it, Fraternity Vacation, Last American Virgin, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and many, many more. Porky's, at the very least, is a strong entry for the genre, and marks one of the first to carry the 'heavy' subplots with any effectiveness.
- DirectorBob ClarkStarsDan MonahanWyatt KnightMark HerrierThe naughty high schoolers of Angel Beach High now seek revenge on a group of KKK religious fanatics and corrupt politicians who want to shut down their Shakespeare production after they cast a Seminole transfer student in the lead.Suffered from sequel'itis', even though it really wasn't all that bad. As raunchy, and nearly as funny as the original. Average sex-romp. Perhaps the first and only romp to tackle racism.
- DirectorJames KomackStarsDan MonahanWyatt KnightTony GaniosAs graduation nears for the class of 1955 at Angel Beach High, the gang once again faces off against their old enemy, Porky, who wants them to throw the school's championship basketball game because he's betting on the opposing team.Easily the worst of the trilogy. Not a good movie.
- DirectorPaul BrickmanStarsTom CruiseRebecca De MornayJoe PantolianoA Chicago teenager is looking for fun at home while his parents are away, but the situation quickly gets out of hand. The good boy gone bad. "Just take them old records off the shelf"! Is this film under-rated because it's a sex romp? Solid music, good performances, in a solid flick.
- DirectorJeff KanewStarsRobert CarradineAnthony EdwardsTimothy BusfieldAt Adams College, a group of bullied outcasts and misfits resolve to fight back for their peace and self-respect."We've got bush". Booger is my hero. Hair Pie!" Classic sex-romp! Pass the wonder joint.
- DirectorGeorge BowersStarsMatt LattanziCaren KayeKevin McCarthyA rich father hires a tutor for his son. The son is a horny teenager and the tutor is a gorgeous blonde. Complications ensue. The biggest breasts you'll ever see in a film NOT rated X. Wait for it! Some bad acting from the lead here;as in really, REEALLY bad. There are far worse films on the list though.
- DirectorGeorge BowersStarsRob MorrowJohnny DeppEmily LongstrethTwo adolescent boys, staying at a Florida resort, are captivated by chasing girls, but their fate holds more surprises.Fairly entertaining. Sort of a raunchier, lower brow "Weekend at Bernies". Stars Johnny Depp in his first major role. Not too bad. The first half of the film is harmless fun, but the film wanes a bit down the stretch.
- DirectorNoel BlackStarsPhoebe CatesBetsy RussellMatthew ModineChris from a girls' boarding school loves Jim from a nearby boys' boarding school. Jordan also wants Jim and plays dirty. Jim and two friends visit the girls' school posing as girls.Mathew Modine starred in this tease of a sex-romp that disappointed on many fronts. These copies probably were worn-out by incessant fast-forwarding.
- DirectorSean S. CunninghamStarsDavid KnellSteve BassettPerry LangTwo sets of two college guys spend a spring break together in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There they have lots of fun in and out of the sun.Loads of partying. The acting is awful. One of many wet t-shirt contest-containing flicks on the list. Low production values, but still captures the 'essence' of the subject matter. A commendable Beer-surplus add's quite a bit for the target demographic. Decent. Falls somewhere in the middle of the list.
- DirectorBoaz DavidsonStarsLawrence MonosonDiane FranklinSteve AntinPizza delivery boy Gary, loudmouth David and hunky Rick are three high school students out to lose their virginity any way they can. Gary falls for transfer student Karen, who gets involved with Rick.Probably in the top 10 of the 70-some-odd films on this list. There are some hard-hitting subplots, passable acting, and great visuals from the era. A tasty slice of cheese. The film has the best soundtrack of all-time. Bold claim? Tell me I'm wrong.
- DirectorAmy HeckerlingStarsSean PennJennifer Jason LeighJudge ReinholdA group of Southern California high school students are enjoying their most important subjects: sex, drugs and rock n' roll. Not much needs to be said. One of the best films on the list. "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice". Shot in Spanktavizion. Came out a couple weeks after Last American Virgin, and really plays out many of the same sub-plots, making one wonder, "is this the original Fast Times", or was "Last American Virgin" the film that should have had the cult-following/popularity. Judge Reinhold was the only one getting his rocks-off to Phoebe Cates at the house-pool - not by a long-shot.
- DirectorRobert ButlerStarsTim MathesonJennifer RunyonStephen FurstBob McGraw is in his 12th year of college, goofing his way through life, until he has to win a river rafting race with three college buddies.Tim Matheson gives one of the best comedic performances on the list. The dean tells the group of failing misfits,"You're not at the bottom of the list, you ARE the bottom of the list". Catchy music from Cheap Trick in a film that is genuinely entertaining throughout. Good sleeper for any genre.
- DirectorDamian LeeStarsDean CameronTom BresnahanPatrick LabyorteauxRival groups in a skiing school do battle on and off the piste. One gang are rich and serious, the other group are party animals.Great unsung lead performance. This film takes its' beer drinking as seriously as its' boob-watching. This was the last of the truly classic sex-romps - they would never return to the same form again. Marshak is my hero, and I don't even ski. Judging from the stunt doubles, he doesn't either.
- DirectorIvan ReitmanStarsBill MurrayHarvey AtkinKate LynchWacky hijinks of counselors and campers at a less-than-average summer camp.Bill Murray stars. A very average comedy.
- DirectorKen WiederhornStarsRichard MulliganHamilton CampJohn MengattiSecond in the series of Meatball movies. A group of kids attempt to save a summer camp that's a financial failure.Sequelitis.
- DirectorGeorge MendelukStarsSally KellermanPatrick DempseyAl WaxmanThe ghost of a dead porn star comes to Earth to help a nerd with his sex life.Acute Sequelitis.
- DirectorHoward StormStarsLauren HuttonJim CarreyKaren KopinsA vampire Countess needs to drink the blood of a virgin in order to keep her eternal beauty. It seems that all is hopeless, until she bumps into Mark Kendall.A dash of horror, and an attempt to clean it up so to speak, but this is a sex-romp at heart. Jim Carrey shows some of the early spark that would lead to his future success. Not a great movie, but a good look at a young, physical comedian in his first leading role.
- DirectorGene WilderStarsGene WilderKelly LeBrockCharles GrodinOn his way to work, Teddy spots Charlotte, an incredibly beautiful Woman in Red. He really wants to meet her, but what would his wife say?Was critically slammed at its' release, but this is quite a bit better than most films on the list. Overall, a pretty under-rated black comedy.
- DirectorJoe DanteCarl GottliebPeter HortonStarsRosanna ArquetteMichelle PfeifferArsenio HallA spoof of low budget 1950s science-fiction movies, interspersed with various comedy sketches and fake commercials making fun of late-night television.MST3K meets Airplane starring a great ensemble cast of future comedy stars. Funny movie. It doesn't take itself seriously, and you shouldn't take any of it too seriously either.
- DirectorHugh WilsonStarsSteve GuttenbergG.W. BaileyKim CattrallThe mayor declares that anyone can enroll in the police academy irrespective of their physical condition or education level, and many misfits descend on the academy, including a young troublemaker who's forced to apply or go to jail.A classic. I want the "One in the Oven" brown cut-off t-shirt from the movie. Solid comedic performance from a solid, all-star comedic cast.
- DirectorJames FrawleyStarsStephen GeoffreysSheree J. WilsonCameron DyeTwo fraternity brothers take advantage of their nerdy pledge's generous parents to spend time with him in Palm Springs and encourage him to mingle with girls, but things don't go as planned when they run into rival fraternity members. One of Tim Robbins first major roles. Not oscar worthy, but definitely in the top half of the list in terms of 'watchablility'. Yes, I just made that word up.
