A devastating war film from a childs perspective, I got this dvd for £2 from a charity shop and was blown away by it. There are some wonderful comical parts to it too and the relationships between the characters are just beautiful.

I think this is the only film I've seen that made me cry in the first 5 minutes. I love Defoe and Gainsbourg so loved seeing them work together.

I really don't know why films like 'saw' are so popular when if it's gore and shock you are looking for there's films like this that have all that but also so much more to them. You really care about the characters in this film, the storyline is solid, acting is quality. That said it will be a long time before I could watch this again.

I can usually cope with violence in film but this was a bit too much for me. I was very upset by this film although I was caring for a very sick pet when I saw it so maybe thats why I cried. It's a great film though, I think I'll be getting some mace for my handbag!
