My Favourite Animated Movies
HTTYD2 and 3 are tied, but the latter is the strongest for me.
10 and 11 are tied.
All these films are God tier for me, and I will protect them at all costs.
These films are included in my favourite films list, where there are also ties, but I wanted animation to have a spot all its own because she's worth it, bitch. Don't get all up in arms about the placement, either, because these are all 9-10 star bona fide mastapeeces.

- DirectorRoger AllersRob MinkoffStarsMatthew BroderickJeremy IronsJames Earl JonesLion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself.Epic, beautiful and emotionally resonant. Fantastic score and great songs. A fantastic coming of age story, full of adult themes without ostracizing the little ones. Still gives me chills. My favourite movie. Period.
- DirectorDean DeBloisChris SandersStarsJay BaruchelGerard ButlerChristopher Mintz-PlasseA hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed.Easily DWA's strongest film, Sanders and DeBois show once again that a familiar story can be made feel fresh and new. A boy and his dog tale, with stunning animation (especially in the flying scenes), a wonderful score and a witty script. Boasting a poignant relationship, and one of the most endearing characters of all time; Toothless.
- DirectorDean DeBloisStarsJay BaruchelAmerica FerreraF. Murray AbrahamWhen Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek the Hidden World, a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first.Dean managed to surpass the already fantastic HTTYD2, with a conclusion that thematically and narratively cements the series as a whole. Mature, thought provoking and both soul lifting and devastating. Hiccup's arc is fantastic, but Toothless? His is even better. DWA managed to achieve what seems impossible, they gave a stirring and profound character arc to a character who cannot speak. Hiccup and Toothless' relationship is once again the pinnacle for this story, and it's handled with grace and tenderness. The animation and music is top notch, the pacing is great and every character action makes perfect sense. What we have here is a sobering tale about love, loss and grief, along with the sad reality that the world does not welcome wild things, and we have to protect them in order to earn their respect. Maybe if we learn to love and respect nature, we can become worthy of the dragons.
- DirectorDean DeBloisStarsJay BaruchelCate BlanchettGerard ButlerWhen Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.Flying solo, Dean DeBlois proves to us that sequels can soar alongside their predecessor with grace. A Viking epic that could easily be likened to "Beowulf," "Dragon 2" does what a sequel should: build character, explore new worlds, up the stakes and the drama - all while keeping the charm and wit of the original. While the original has moments of tranquility, its successor is bombastic and loud. Somehow, despite being a "2," it remains as fresh and invigorating as "1," despite overflowing a bit towards the end. The pacing is choppy, and some character choices are very odd, and I will say that Toothless seems to be more put to the side at times to make room for the parental element. Still, it is his bond with Hiccup that is the backbone of the film, because they have amazing moments together. I still feel that HTTYD3 did handle that element with more finesse (that is, this film cemented their bond, but HTTYD3 pushed it even further) but the Hicctooth moments here are absolutely fantastic. The animation and music is stunning, of course, and it sets everything in motion for the third film. Yes, this is a banger if I ever saw one.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsGeorge ClooneyMeryl StreepBill MurrayAn urbane fox cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways and then must help his community survive the farmers' retaliation. The film that made me want to be an animator. An adaptation that respects the material it's based on while being able to stand on its own, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" does well by Roald Dahl's beloved children's book. Wonderfully quirky, with an unusual, dry wit that suits the earthy, humble atmosphere of the piece. Stunning stop-motion animation, where the expressions are so believable and the characters so likable, even when they're *beep* A splendid cast, a strange but fitting soundtrack. To quote Esquire, this film is "a complete and utter delight."
- DirectorClyde GeronimiWilfred JacksonHamilton LuskeStarsBarbara LuddyLarry RobertsPeggy LeeThe romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt. With a message about classism and racism that was ahead of its time, this absolute charmer is a certified classic. It features some of the best canine animation, tight pacing and one of the most endearing and realistic romances put to cinema. The voice acting also deserves huge praise, as does the music. The climax is one of the most exciting in Disney's canon. A wonderful film.
- DirectorMartin RosenStarsJohn HurtChristopher BenjaminJames BolamTwo dogs escape from a laboratory and are hunted as possible carriers of the bubonic plague.Stirring and heartachingly realistic depiction of two dogs who are faced with the wild Lake District after escaping from an animal testing centre by pure chance. A slick and beautiful animation style, that plays close to the chest with realism but doesn't sacrifice principle. Absolutely fantastic voice acting, excellent pacing and dare I say it, a perfect ending. Not to mention a wonderful friendship between the stellar characters.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsBryan CranstonKoyu RankinEdward NortonSet in Japan, Isle of Dogs follows a boy's odyssey in search of his lost dog. While "Fox" reigns supreme, I still *ADORE* the animation, camera work, music, characters and humour. Similar to "The Plague Dogs" in some ways, but with a more sanitized endgame. Pacing is a little bit choppy, and I do think Spots was a bit of a dick to be honest. Still, fabulous, dahling. Wes, I cannot wait for your next animated venture.
- DirectorClyde GeronimiHamilton LuskeWolfgang ReithermanStarsRod TaylorBetty Lou GersonJ. Pat O'MalleyWhen a litter of Dalmatian puppies are abducted by the minions of Cruella De Vil, the owners must find them before she uses them for a diabolical fashion statement.Dear God, the art style and animation is so BOOTIFUL. It's so unique and snappy and I love it! Oh, and it's a great story! With lovable characters! Plus it has that British charm and humour! The villain do be crazy and I'm living for it! Hell, the author loved it more than her own book! One of Disney's best, damnit!
- DirectorBrad BirdJan PinkavaStarsBrad GarrettLou RomanoPatton OswaltA rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant.PIXAR's best and I will fight that corner. It's so fun, so unique and stylish. The animation still pops, the story do be excellent. Brad Bird really went to PIXAR and said "OK, rats... but in the kitchen." Yes, sir. They took that concept that makes people retch and made a masterpiece. It's just so charming and lovely and I never get bored of it.
Also the food looks so good, my God. - DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsPaige O'HaraRobby BensonJesse CortiA prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.Disney need not try to make love stories anymore, for they have perfected it with "Beauty and the Beast." A stunningly beautiful retelling of the classic French fairy-tale, "BatB" shows audiences both young and old that true love takes time, that it is based on accepting your partner with all their niggly bits, and that nobody is perfect. Love is patient, imperfect and is hard work, and this movie shows it in a simple yet profound way that doesn't dumb it down for anyone. The comic relief is spot on, clever without being overbearing, Belle is a wonderful heroine and Gaston surprisingly more sinister than one may expect, but the real stand out character here is the Beast. Gruff, grumpy and not exactly socially adept, the Beast is one of Disney's most complex and relatable characters; at the end of the tale, it's hard not to see the Beast as an unconventional Prince Charming. The chemistry between the romantic couple is wonderful, the music, by Menken and the late musical genius Ashman, is lovely - especially in the title song. It won't be hard for this gem to sweep you off your feet.

- DirectorTed BermanRichard RichArt StevensStarsMickey RooneyKurt RussellPearl BaileyA fox named Tod and a hound named Copper vow to be best friends forever. But as Copper grows into a hunting dog, their unlikely friendship faces the ultimate test.Disney's most underrated film, in my opinion. I adore the animation and style, and I want the score on Spotify. It's such a mature and well told mix up of raw realistic nature and racial allegory. The voice acting is great, too! What's even better is that there's not really even a villain. Amos is a douche to Widow Tweed, but he still is only trying to protect his farm, and he clearly adores his dogs so much. They are all he has, and while breaking into a reserve is extreme, you can see why he might go to such lengths. The only two major issues are the stupid ass birds chasing the worm, and Chief not dying. The motives behind Amos and Copper's rage would have been made much clearer of he had died, and it would have made the already excellent ending even better. What smarts is that the writers wanted Chief to die, but Disney were like "nah." Of course, the bond between Tod and Copper is the heart and soul of the film, and BIG MAMA I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
