Probably the pre-eminent violinist of our time, Itzhak Perlman is known for his brilliant technique, direct interpretation and precision. Mr. Perlman's recordings include not only all standard violin repertoires but those of contemporary composers. He has appeared with every major orchestra in the world, showcasing his talent at music festivals, recitals, and concerts around the world. The man who plays sitting down has never ceased to bring audiences and truly, the world, to its feet in appreciation of his gifts. Mr. Perlman was born to a barber in Israel in 1945. He contracted polio and lost the use of his legs at the age of four. Shortly after, he began to study the violin. After learning the violin at Shulamit High School in Tel-Aviv, he was performing with the Israel Broadcasting Orchestra. He toured with Ed Sullivan's Caravan of Stars, a showcase of talented children. He emigrated to the US in 1958 and under scholarship, Mr. Perlman went on to study at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York with Ivan Galamian. Mr. Perlman made his professional debut playing Wienawski F-sharp minor Concerto at Carnegie Hall in 1963. He won the Leventritt Memorial Competition in 1964, which helped paved the way to his illustrious international career. Mr. Perlman returned to Israel in 1965 with a stunning eight concert and in 1968, made his British debut at Festival Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra. On the 4th of July in 1986, Mr. Perlman was one of 12 first-generation US citizens to be honored with the Medal of Liberty by President Ronald Reagan, in recognition and appreciation of his contributions to America. In December 2000, President Clinton awarded Mr. Perlman the "National Medal of Arts." With the Israel Philharmonic, Mr. Perlman performed several notable recitals in countries previously closed off. In November of 1987, the Philharmonic and Mr. Perlman performed in Warsaw and Budapest. It was the first time the Philharmonic and the violinist had performed in the Eastern Bloc. In April and May of 1990, the Philharmonic and Mr. Perlman journeyed to Russia for the first time, performing recitals in Moscow and Leningrad. The timing of this tour coincided with the 150th anniversary of Tchaikovsky's birth and Mr. Perlman honored the composer. In December 1994, Mr. Perlman and the Israel Philharmonic performed in China and India, marking the first time the Philharmonic played in either nation. Perhaps one of his greatest moments as an artist came when he collaborated with legendary composer John Williams. The film score that was created, with Mr. Perlman as a soloist, was used in the film _Schindler's List (1993)_ which won an Academy Award. Ever a teacher and holder of many teaching posts, Mr. Perlman participated in London South Bank Summer Music Series in 1968 and 1969. He created a master class in violin in 1970, at the Meadowbrooks Festival in the US. Mr. Perlman and his wife founded the Perlman Music Program in 1998 to nurture young musicians, ages 11-18. The program is costly but three quarters of the children receive some sort of financial aid. It includes year-round instruction and mentoring, a six-week summer residency on Shelter Island, New York and an annual international study/performance tour. In Mr. Perlman's 50th birthday year, he performed the major violin repertoire in a special concert series in London. That year was the launch of the Perlman Edition to commemorate his birth. The 20 CD set was released in May 1995. It was chosen by Mr. Perlman himself and included some of his favorite pieces by Sarasate, Wieniawski, Kreisler and Tchaikovsky. Later that year, EMI released a live recording of Beethoven's Triple Concerto with Yo-Yo Ma and the Berlin Philharmonic. The holder of honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, and Yeshiva Universities, among others, it's Itzhak Perlman's passion for music that recommends him to the world. The joy of making music has seldom been translated so well and it is this combination of talent and personal charm which makes him such an outstanding violinist and the greatest violin virtuoso of our time.violinist- Music Department

David Garrett was born David Bongarz in Aachen, Germany on the 4th of September 1980. His father is a lawyer and his mother a classical ballerina. He has an older brother Alexander, who was at that time taking violin lessons. In an attempt to imitate his big brother David snatched up his violin when he was four years old and taught himself how to play the instrument on his own. Soon his parents discovered their younger son's talent and made sure he got proper tutors. He made his first appearance with the Hamburg Philharmonics at the age of ten.
At the age of thirteen he was the youngest artist to sign an exclusive contract with the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. In 1999, at the prime of his young career he decided to put everything on hold and move to New York in order to study musicology and composition at the prestigious Julliard School. To pay for his studies he worked as a bartender, a janitor and a library clerk before he was discovered by a modeling agency. At Julliard he was taught by the likes of Itzhak Perlmann and Eric Ewazen. In 2003 he won the Composition Competition of Julliard School with a fugue composed in the style of Johann Sebastian Bach.
After completing his studies he started a new career as a crossover violinist attempting to breach the often wide gap between the new generations of young people and classic music. In 2006 the record company Decca released his first crossover album "Free" (also known under the title "Virtuoso" by the record company DEAG), which contained classics such as the "Flight of the Bumblebee" by Rimsky-Korsakov and Paganini's "Caprice n° 24", as well as a remake of Metallica's "Nothing else matters".
He was awarded with an ECHO Classic 2008 in the category "Borderless Classic" The second album "Encore" followed at the heel in October 2008, The success of the second album even outdid that of the first. In the USA the album remained number one in the classical and classical crossover charts for months.
With the album "Classic Romance", released in November 2009, David returned to his classic roots. The album gained overwhelming popularity, winning Garrett the ECHO Classic 2010 in the category "Bestseller of the Year". His next album "Rock Symphonies", released in July 2010 topped everything seen up to that point. Addressing his young audience the album contained remakes of rock and metal anthems from bands like Nirvana, Guns n' Roses, Metallica and U2 combined with titles by Vivaldi and Beethoven. This brought him two ECHO awards in 20011. The DVD "David Garrett: Rock Symphonies - Open Air Live" was awarded in the category "Best Domestic DVD Production" and as "Best Artist" in the category "Rock/Pop Domestic".
After his successful Rock Symphonies Tour in 2011, David once more returned to the realm of classical music. He recorded of the album "Legacy"(by the Decca Record Company), which was first released in Germany on November 2011. The album consists of the Beethoven Violin-Concerto and various works by Fritz Kreisler. As soon as it was released "Legacy" reached rank 6 on the overall-charts in Germany, thus making it the highest-ranking instrumental classical album in German chart history. In January 2012 it reached gold-status.violinist- Writer

Van Cliburn was born Harvey Lavan Cliburn, Jr. on July 12, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA. His mother, named Rildia Bee O'Bryan, had been taught piano by Arthur Friedheim, a pupil of Franz Liszt. Cliburn began taking piano lessons at the age of three from his mother, who was strict and demanded perfection. At the age of twelve Cliburn won a piano competition in Texas and made his debut with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. At the age of twenty he made his debut at Carnegie Hall.
In 1958 Cliburn won the First International Tshaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow. There he played the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the Piano Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninoff in his triumphal competition finale performances. Cliburn's mastery of piano was so convincing that even Nikita Khrushchev agreed, when the Soviet judges asked him for permission to give the first prize to an American. Cliburn was on the cover of TIME as "The Texan Who Conquered Russia." He made a fine recording of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, which became the best-selling classical album, eventually going triple platinum. Cliburn also recorded the music of Edvard Grieg, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Ludwig van Beethoven among other composers.
Since 1962 Van Cliburn has been the artistic advisor for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. Its international prestige now rivals that of the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition. Cliburn made appearances at such important political events, as the 1987 White House meeting between President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. In 1991 Cliburn performed at the opening of the 100th Anniversary season of Carnegie Hall. In 2003 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 2004 received the Russian Order of Friendship. He has played piano music for royalty, heads of states, and for every President of the United States since Harry S. Truman. Van Cliburn is living in Fort Worth, Texas. He is a Steinway artist. He owns a collection of Steinway pianos that are tuned-up to accommodate his individual touch and style.- Music Artist

Marco Rizo is best remembered as musical director for the popular television show I Love Lucy (1951) during its lengthy run from 1951 to 1957. He famously co-wrote the jaunty theme song. Marco was born in 1920 in Santiago, Cuba. He was immersed in music from early childhood. His father, chief flutist with the Santiago Symphony Orchestra (simultaneously, also the front man for a popular jazz band) took his son under a rigorous training regime in classical music, Latin and jazz. By the age of sixteen, Marco had become Cuba's foremost concert pianist, on occasion performing in tandem with established musicians like Ernesto Lecuona. In 1940, he was awarded a scholarship at Juilliard and moved to the United States.
After two years of wartime service as a member of the 2nd Army Military Band (which effectively dispensed with his piano-playing talents), Marco was offered the chance to join the popular Afro-Cuban dance orchestra of his childhood friend Desi Arnaz. Until 1950, he accompanied the group on its nationwide tour in his capacity as pianist and orchestrator. During his subsequent work on "I Love Lucy" he resumed his musical studies at UCLA under the tutelage of Igor Stravinsky and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. This was very much in keeping with his natural preference for classical music. At this time, he also began turning out arrangements for performers ranging from Carmen Miranda and Xavier Cugat to Yma Sumac, as well as scoring feature films for Columbia, MGM and Paramount. From 1960, he held positions as orchestrator for CBS and for the Royal Viking Line of cruise ships, as well as pursuing a successful solo career giving piano recitals and recording some thirty albums of Cuban classical music (18th to 20th century) and featuring his own compositions like "Danzas Cubanas" and "Suite Campesina". In the 80's, he established a foundation -- the SouthAmerican Music Project -- dedicated to educating children in Latin music, pianist & composer- pianist

Musical talent ran in Marvin Hamlisch's family - his father was an accordionist, and at seven Hamlisch was the youngest student ever accepted by Manhattan's Julliard School of Music. Hamlich furthered his education by taking night classes at Queens College and working during the day as a rehearsal pianist for Broadway shows. He eventually began composing songs for stage productions. In 1968 he met film producer Sam Spiegel, resulting in his first film score for The Swimmer (1968) (he had previously written some songs for a low-budget teen epic, Ski Party (1965), but did not do the score for it). Hamlisch became well versed in the very specialized field of film scoring. In addition to scoring films, he ventured into film production as co-producer of The Entertainer (1975). Born Annie Wiggins Brown in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of a prominent physician, Dr Harry F. Brown, the grandson of a slave. Her mother was of African, Cherokee and Scottish-Irish descent. Along with her three sisters, she was taught and encouraged in music by her mother. Hopes of developing her musical talents were dashed when a local Catholic school refused her entry on the grounds of her color. She encountered similar discrimination some years later when she applied to the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, but was finally admitted to Morgan State College and Columbia University Teachers' College.
All three of her marriages ended in divorce. Brown remained in Oslo until her death. In 1999 she was elected an honorary citizen of Baltimore, the town where, 70 years earlier, she had been denied a musical education on account of her skin color. In 2000 she received the prestigious annual cultural award from Arts Council Norway. Her daughters, Vaar Schjelderup (by her third marriage) and Paula Petit (by her second marriage), survived her.as Anne Wiggins Brown; soprano- Casting Department

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, classical and jazz musician Hazel Scott became one of America's premier pianists of her time. Born on June 11, 1920, this child prodigy first started tickling the ivories at age 3 under the guidance of her mother. She moved with her family to the U.S. in 1924 where she started performing in New York City and receiving scholarships to study classical music at the Juilliard School of Music -- all of this by age 8. Her mentors in jazz technique were Art Tatum and Teddy Wilson. Topping her talents off with a warm singing voice to complement her glamorous presence, she was a club and radio star by the late 30s and performed with such notables as Count Basie. She gained some attention for her swinging versions of classical themes. Hazel appeared in the productions "Singing Out the News" and "Priorities of 1942" on Broadway and played twice at Carnegie Hall. As a sometime actress, Hazel became a noted specialty performer in musical motion pictures, including "Something to Shout About" (1943), "I Dood It" (1943) and "Broadway Rhythm" (1944) during the war-era while releasing dozens of albums during her prime. Her most famous hit was "Tico Tico" and her catchy boogie-woogie style proved quite popular during the 40s, while her versatility and ability to shift from jazz to classical to blues was incomparable. Hazel married the Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., noted Congressman, preacher and editor in 1945. She became the first black woman to host her own television show in 1950 but, within months, the show was canceled. An outspoken personality all her life, she was subsequently accused of being a Communist sympathizer. She refused to perform in segregated theaters and became a vocal critic of both McCarthyism and racial injustice. Following her divorce from Powell, she lived in Paris where she performed and enjoyed racial freedom during the 1960s. Her return to the U.S. marked a second career on TV with guest parts on such shows as Julia (1968) and The Bold Ones: The New Doctors (1969) coming her way. Scott continued to perform in clubs until her death from cancer in 1981.singer and pianist
