- DirectorJames MangoldStarsJohn CusackRay LiottaAmanda PeetStranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rain storm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they're being killed off one by one.It did age a little and probably lost a lot of its novelty. Probably would have gained to be watched on a big screen. Still, pleasant enough to watch.
- DirectorMichael Caton-JonesStarsBruce WillisRichard GereSidney PoitierAn imprisoned I.R.A. fighter is freed to help stop a brutal, seemingly "faceless" assassin from completing his next job.Photography and editing are a bit old school (Bruce Willis had hair, back then) but it remains a movie I enjoy watching. And that I'll probably rewatch in a couple years with pleasure.
- DirectorPhillip NoyceStarsHarrison FordSean BeanAnne ArcherWhen CIA analyst Jack Ryan interferes with an IRA assassination, a renegade faction targets him and his family for revenge.I was looking for something to watch on christmas and while reading the jacket of the DVD I realise that Sean Bean is in that movie, that I watched many times when I was younger. While it has aged (it's amazing how difficult life can get when you're fighting for your life without the possibility to use a cellphone) it was 1.5 hour well spend.
In the Jack Ryan series. - DirectorJohn MaddenStarsJudi DenchBill NighyMaggie SmithBritish retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.Watched it in order to be able to go see the second one with my mum and not feel completely lost. Touching stories, and well build characters. I had forgotten how much I like Bill Nighty in that kind of scenario. That being said, I initially found it hard to see Judy Dench as anything else than M. But you find yourself charmed by Maggie Smith's way of introducing tea.
- DirectorWolfgang PetersenStarsRichard DreyfussKurt RussellEmmy RossumOn New Year's Eve, the luxury ocean liner Poseidon capsizes after being swamped by a rogue wave. The survivors are left to fight for their lives as they attempt to escape the sinking ship.I had watched the older version of this when I was a kid. This one is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but W. Petersen did a great directing job.
- DirectorWolfgang PetersenStarsGeorge ClooneyMark WahlbergJohn C. ReillyAn unusually intense storm pattern catches some commercial fishermen unaware and puts them in mortal danger.Speaking of W. Petersen... I had watched it already and decided to give it another go. I didn't remember it like that at all, but the few years I took since then probably explain that.
- DirectorDanny BoyleStarsCillian MurphyNaomie HarrisChristopher EcclestonFour weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.Yay, zombies! It actually summaries it pretty well.
- DirectorJuan Carlos FresnadilloStarsJeremy RennerRose ByrneRobert CarlyleSix months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes according to plan.Yay, more zombies! As always in that kind of story, humans are too cocky, and they go too far too fast. But, hey, this one was a nice take.
- DirectorGuillaume CanetStarsFrançois CluzetMarie-Josée CrozeAndré DussollierAn accidental discovery near a doctor's estate stirs up some painful memories eight years after his wife's hideous murder, and now, things are bound to take a turn for the unexpected. Does the good doctor know more than he's letting on?I have red this, and I went to see it in the theater back when it came out. I have troubles in general with french movies, and it did grow old a bit, but it was still pleasant nonetheless even if I liked the book better. I guess I'll have to try again in 10 years.
- DirectorNeil BurgerStarsShailene WoodleyTheo JamesKate WinsletIn a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late. One of my best friend is a fan. I watched it to be able to discuss it with her, and it turned out ok. I wouldn't say I was sweeped off my feet, but the surprise was enjoyable enough.
On another note, the functionning of this society is actually quite fascinating. Looking forward to see what the next movies have to offer. - DirectorLawrence SilversteinStarsSean FarisTamer HassanRebecca Da CostaWith a ticking bomb locked to his neck, a young freerunner races against the clock and all types of baddies to get from one end of the city to the other to save himself and his girlfriend.Run for you life, literally. B13 was new and to the point with awesome stunt work. Battle Royal is.. do I really need to find words? This, this is a poor attempt at reuniting the 2. Not even good enough for a post night shift DVD session.
- DirectorDavid R. EllisStarsKim BasingerChris EvansJason StathamA young man receives an emergency phone call on his cell phone from an older woman. The catch? The woman claims to have been kidnapped, and the kidnappers have targeted her husband and child next.Back then Chris Evans used to look like your everyday surfer. Old times. More than 10 years later, it's still fun to reunite with this cast (William H. Macy people! Working to launch a day spa!). And seriously, Rick Hoffman playing the douchebag lawyer who's just bought himself a new shiny car a few years before playing douchebag lawyer Louis Litt on Suits? Dang, cinema trivia!
- DirectorDavid KoeppStarsJoseph Gordon-LevittMichael ShannonDania RamirezIn Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.JGL early days. This one is honest really. And a chase&run on bikes in the middle of NYC? What's not to like?
- DirectorJohn WooStarsTom CruiseDougray ScottThandiwe NewtonIMF agent Ethan Hunt is sent to Sydney to find and destroy a genetically modified disease called "Chimera".Never realised before but I was 9 when this came out... Time flies. Hadn't watched it in a while, and I did remember the explosions and action in there, but I had forgotten the part where people talk in between.. Directed by John Woo, beautiful choreography, and a few very nice images (a dove flying through fire, beautiful really). To remember as the one about Chimera and Bellerophon, but also the one where everyone wears a masks and no one seems to be who it appears at first.
- DirectorJon AmielStarsSean ConneryCatherine Zeta-JonesVing RhamesAn insurance agent is sent by her employer to track down and help capture an art thief.Maybe surprisingly, this one has aged very well (Except for a few clothing items, like always), the directing is very modern, the acting still convincing and the stunts believable even though we've seen it thousands times since...
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsAl PacinoRobin WilliamsHilary SwankTwo Los Angeles homicide detectives are dispatched to a northern town where the sun doesn't set to investigate the methodical murder of a local teen.Should have watched this when I was younger. Didn't manage to get into it. Maybe I'll try again in a few years in better viewing conditions.
- DirectorClark JohnsonStarsSamuel L. JacksonColin FarrellMichelle RodriguezAn imprisoned drug kingpin offers a huge cash reward to anyone that can break him out of police custody, and only the L.A.P.D.'s Special Weapons and Tactics team can prevent it.Wow it is more than 10 years old. Didn't expect that. Still something the could come out now without many changes. Nice to remember what Colin Farrell used look like. And, surprise, younger Jeremy Renner.
- DirectorHeitor DhaliaStarsAmanda SeyfriedJennifer CarpenterWes BentleyA woman is convinced her kidnapper has returned when her sister goes missing.Better than what I had expected. Probably would have had a better score if the cast was more famous. The plot was surprisingly intriging.
- DirectorJérôme SalleStarsTomer SisleyKristin Scott ThomasPredrag 'Miki' ManojlovicAfter a powerful billionaire is murdered, his secret adoptive son must race to prove his legitimacy, find his father's killers, and stop them from taking over his financial empire.Always a pleasure. Maybe blender than what I remembered? Still nice to watch.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsTom CruiseJon VoightEmmanuelle BéartAn American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization.Watched it again before I went to spend a long week-end in Prague.. (yes, I'm that kind of person.) It's still everything I liked about it (but technology... you never get used to what it used to be. I mean.. The state of the internet back then? And cassettes to watch movies on planes?) (yay to old sets of TGVs... I remember them being that way). The bridge's scene ("Ethan, Ethan") is somewhat cult at home, and I don't think I will ever be able to completely forget the vault scene or helicopter chase. Then again, I've probable watched this more than 30 times since the first time. (Yes, I'm that kind of person too.)
- DirectorRobert RedfordStarsDonald SutherlandMary Tyler MooreJudd HirschThe accidental death of the older son of an affluent family deeply strains the relationships among the bitter mother, the good-natured father and the guilt-ridden younger son. This was amazing. Yes it grew old but it is so modern in the way it treats greaf and the expected reactions versus the harder reality. Very good actors, good script. No easy shortcut. Loved it.
- DirectorRobert AltmanStarsTim RobbinsGreta ScacchiFred WardA Hollywood studio executive is being sent death threats by a writer whose script he rejected, but which one?Maybe a tad too long, but it paints a picture of the hollywood society that's frankly frightening, and yet we accept this for what it is. The snake that bites its tail. Moral conflicts and internal debates with oneself. Life goes full circle.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsColin FirthEmma StoneMarcia Gay HardenA romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle. Personal and professional complications ensue.I somehow completely missed this when it came out. You recognize Woody Allen from the first few seconds (old school generic, with very distinctive music) and his signature is heavy all along. So you have to like the style to enjoy this, but if you do, it's a very well thought divertisment.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsRebecca HallScarlett JohanssonJavier BardemTwo friends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture.Watched it with the boyfriend. A lot less intense than the memory I kept from when I saw it first (2008! Time flies). What I remembered was at the same time consistent and very different from the real movie. Scarlett Johanson is breathtaking.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsFarley GrangerRobert WalkerRuth RomanA psychopathic man tries to forcibly persuade a tennis star to agree to his theory that two strangers can get away with murder by submitting to his plan to kill the other's most-hated person.Love Hitchcock! Very good in that classical way of his. That being said, not the one I preferred..
