Watching this film made me realize something, that the "dragon brothers" are so much like the Three Stooges in terms of physical comedy. They are their equal in hilariousness. They make me laugh like no other when the three of them are all together. - DirectorJohn LittleBruce LeeStarsBruce LeeKareem Abdul-JabbarPeter ArcherA documentary showing the life of Bruce Lee up-close.Features Bruce Lee's COMPLETED Game of Death Sequences FULL & UNCUT. This flick while not really a Shaw Bros production really feels like a Shaw Bros film, from the look, feel, plot, everything is reminiscent and can be easily mistaken as one of their classics.
This film has some of the best Wing Chun action around.
I for one firmly believe Sammo Hung is just as talented as a film maker and as an martial artist as Jackie Chan. I can look past the cliches and predictable story lines just to see my two favorite ass kickers on the planet square off on film for the very first time.
Oh and another thing i really liked was the opening title sequence, call me a major nerd but it was a thrill to see all those Shaw Bros & Bruce Lee homages. :-D - DirectorNorifumi SuzukiStarsShin'ichi ChibaYutaka NakajimaMakoto SatôSonny Chiba plays the character referred to as "Mr Soh", who is based on the true life founder of Shorinji Kempo, Doshin So. Mr Soh has been acting as a secret agent in Manchuria during the Japanese occupation. He is first seen spying on a meeting of Chinese soldiers as they plan a surprise ambush on the retreating Japanese Army. He is discovered and has to fight his way out, using fists, feet and then a machine gun. He rushes to inform the Japanese commanders of the plot, but is horrified to learn that Japan has done the unthinkable by surrendering unconditionally. Soh returns to his homeland to find a ravaged land of beaten people. Victimised by gangsters, occupation forces and corrupt local officials, the poor and the disenfranchised have lost the will to fight back. Using his "Shao Lin" skills (subtitle translation of Shorinji Kempo), he regularly champions the weak and teaches the black market thugs the error of their ways, becoming a regular guest at the local prison. He is seen to assist a former soldier, Otaki, who is seeking his lost wife at the bottom of a bottle, a fallen woman (Kiku) who has turned to prostitution after suffering rape by Russian soldiers, her little brother Kimio who gets injured by some American G.I.s who subsequently try to flee from accident. The Prison Governor warns him that the US Administration will not be so tolerant now that he has "crippled" the troops, suggesting a likely death sentence. He helps him to "escape" the jail and Soh leaves town in a hurry, pausing only to give advice to the band of orphans that he has befriended. Soh leaves the city of Osaka (central Japan) to go to the rural island of Shikoku where he finds a similar situation. He determines to bring new hope to the locals by teaching his martial arts skills to a growing band of followers. He gathers the loafers, ruffians and aimless, teaches them Shorinji Kempo (referred to as "Shao Lin" in subtitles) to build them up to be stronger physically and mentally. He meets some new characters, who he soon enlists in his school; Tomoda the young ex-soldier and his sister Miho. When the noodle-stall girl Noriko is raped by a gang of yakuza thugs, Soh and Tomoda dish out some rough justice (with some sharp scissors to one of the miscreant's tenderest flesh). Later, Tomoda and Miho are attacked and Tomoda has his arm cut off with a katana (Samurai sword). Soh avenges that with a visit to the local yakuza boss that leaves the boss with a dislocated arm and his minion missing a digit. Otaki, the former drunken soldier from Osaka joins the group, then in an emotional scene, discovers his wife is alive but has re-married after he was reported dead in the war. When the small-time local yakuza gangs are joined by familiar faces from Osaka seeking to expand their activities, it is time for action with a capital A. Before the final climactic face-off between Soh's students and the yakuza mob, there is time for Soh to receive an urgent message to see Kiku in Osaka. He returns to find the orphans caring for a terminally ill Kiku, who had turned to prostitution to help support them all. Soh experiences an epiphany and comes to recognise that "Strength and Compassion must be together" (Riki Ai Funi). In a typically cinematic finale, Soh's friend Otaki dies is killed by yakuza thugs paid to clear the honest poor from land to be used to build brothels and gambling dens. Soh goes on a final rampage to clear the yakuza right out of town forever. The epilogue reveals how Soh's school has flourished and spread across Japan (circa 1975), with scenes filmed at the organisations magnificent headquarters still based in the town of Tadotsu.Another one from Sonny Chiba.

- DirectorCorey YuenStarsHiroyuki SanadaConan LeeJeong-lee HwangTwo rival warriors, a Japanese and a Chinese, are forced to work together after their master has been killed by a mighty enemy. The only reason to see this really is for Hiroyuki Sanada. Everything else isnt anything we havent seen before and done better. The Chinese lead in this flick is nothing but a Jackie Chan imitator, but pales in comparison. Like i said. Mr. Sanada is the ONLY reason, hes fantastic.

Very Insightful on the impact of a legend. - DirectorVincent KokStarsJackie ChanShu QiTony Leung Chiu-waiA romantic girl travels to Hong Kong in search of certain love but instead meets a kind-hearted professional fighter for whom she begins to fall instead. While the film as a whole could be a let down for those of us expecting the "typical Jackie flick" full of death defying stunts, fights action, and quirky humor, now while 2 of those three Jackie tradmarks ARE present, this film is a diferent direction and isnt your "typical Jackie Chan flick, when it comes down to it, its a romance. And this might put viewers off, however i urge you to endure some cheese because its well worth the view simply for the two rounds no holds barred fight between Jackie Chan VS Bradley James Allan.
Oh and be sure to pick up the original cut, and NOT the dubbed version, the original cut is longer, more fleshed out, more action, and has a special and amusing cameo by the always hilarious Stephen Chow. - DirectorTony JaaPanna RittikraiStarsTony JaaSarunyu WongkrachangSorapong ChatreeA young Thai boxer learns the skills and inner meaning of martial arts.NOT as good as the first. On the day of Hyun-Soo's battle, a classmate threw his milk to Jung-Hoon. Jung-Hoon's gang ran into Hyun-Soo's class and ask who did that. Hamburger tried pacifying Jung-Hoon but failed. Hyun-Soo stood up and challenged Jung-Hoon at roof. Hyun-Soo used his double-stick to hit Jung-Hoon when they went upstairs. Finally, in great resistance, Hyun-Soo won the battle and went downstairs. Soldiers stopped Hyun-Soo, but he escaped, destroyed 2 windows and spoke, "F**k all schools in Korea!" - DirectorSammo Kam-Bo HungStarsSammo Kam-Bo HungChun YangRoy ChiaoAn apprentice farmer (Sammo Hung) ventures to the city and helps his family battle a gang of thugs.Aka "Enter the Fat Dragon."
Take note this is NOT a parody of Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" its about a heavy set man who just so happens to be obsessed with Bruce and his films, and can imitate his moves quite well for a fat dude. Its hilarious and as usual Sammo delivers top notch action scenes. - DirectorSammo Kam-Bo HungStarsSammo Kam-Bo HungSiu Chung MokHoi MangLo Tung and his friend Malted Candy, pedicab drivers working the streets of Macao, have both fallen in love. The action is simply amazing.

My only beef with the film really is that Biao Yuen does not reprise his role from the first film (as Boon) and is instead recast with another lesser known actor. I hate that whenever it happens in all films in general.
This film is still worth the view for the Jet Li Vs Donnie Yen Showdown alone. - DirectorManfred WongWai-Man YipStarsAarif LeeTony Ka Fai LeungChristy ChungThe life story of martial arts icon and actor Bruce Lee.Based on the early years of real life martial arts action master, movie icon, and Founder of Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee.
And because of this, most people will go in expecting to see another Ip Man. When in reality, this film is more focused on the Drama aspect than the actual Martial Arts part of Bruce's Life. Its focused more on the relationships he forged with friends, first loves, and of course his family. Keep in mind, this was based on his younger brothers book, it is told through his perspective, hence the lack of actual fighting. This film only has a grand total of TWO major fight sequences (and the director made it a point to SKIP all the others) and both were nods to the Ip Man films with Donnie Yen (The Boxing Match) aswell as Bruce's Way of the Dragon (The Cat during the street brawl.) Bruce was still a novice at this point in time anyway and only participated in street brawls with local gangs and whatnot. He wasn't a master at anything yet, and was still in the early stages of his Wing Chun training with his father & the Grandmaster Yip Man, who is featured (although faceless) in this film, BTW its worth mentioning Bruce actually started training at a younger age than the film says, according to the man himself his father started training him during his pre-teen years, then introduced him to Yip Man at age thirteen, this film ignores this completely and made it seem like Bruce only wanted to learn Gong Fu so he can beat up some douche in a boxing Match. He was also too old, Bruce started young, and i find it hard to believe his Brother Robert Lee would make the same mistake Hollywood did in their version of Bruce's Life tale Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.
As for the film itself, its an exceptional piece of work, well directed, well acted, beautiful cinematography, and a great score that's very reminiscent to the Way of the Dragon soundtrack. And since i heard this is to be the first entry in a planned Trilogy of films chronicling the life of the legendary Little Dragon, Im greatly anticipating the sequel.
Its great entertainment, but for the REAL story check out the many Documentaries on the Man. - "A Warriors Journey", "Bruce Lee:The Legend" - "Famous Families: The Lee's", - "Curse of the Dragon" - "Immortal Dragon" - "Death By Misadventure" - & "How Bruce Lee Changed the World." - DirectorRob CohenStarsJason Scott LeeLauren HollyRobert WagnerA fictionalized account of the life of the martial arts superstar.a semi-FICTIONAL re-telling on the life of Bruce Lee. Its very LOOSELY based on his Life so dont take it seriously so much. If you want facts, watch one of the MANY documentaries dedicated to Him.
This film took ALOT of liberties and spread alot of that "Hollywood "Magic" aka *beep* to his life story.
Dont know why really, Bruce's Life was entertaining enough, infact the Facts are faaaaar more interesting than the bullcrap they shoved in here.
The Score however was brilliant, the theme song has been used a dozen times for numerous film trailers including Forrrest Gump.
Jason Scott Lee was alright i guess, but he was no Bruce Lee, Ive seen two biopics on Bruce's Life so far and neither actors portraying the man captured his aura, charisma, and skills. Not surprising though since there is no one else like Bruce.
Its great entertainment, but for the REAL story check out the many Documentaries on the Man. - "A Warriors Journey", "Bruce Lee:The Legend" - "Famous Families: The Lee's", - "Curse of the Dragon" - "Immortal Dragon" - "Death By Misadventure" - & "How Bruce Lee Changed the World." - DirectorSiu-Tung ChingStarsNorman ChuDamian LauFlora Chong-LeenThe best sword master from China vs the best sword master from Japan. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.I know what youre thinking. What the hell is this doing here?! Well its simple. Its here because It IS a martial arts movie, or at least i consider it as one. Batman doesnt have super powers, he has nothing but his knowledge of the martial arts and his fancy gadgets to depend on. Its got the mandatory training scene, the final battle, and plenty on "ninjitsu" to go around. At its core Batman Begins is the retelling of the Batman Mythos, his Training and eventual Mastering of the Martial Arts so he may put it to use against the criminals of Gotham City. Well that and its a pretty damn good movie!
Batman = A Ninja in a Cape with pointy ears.
dont miss its sequels, The Dark Knight (2008) & The Dark Knight Rises (2012) either! this series of films joins the rare and elite ranks of a solid trilogies along side such films as The (original) Star Wars & The Lord of the Rings Trilogies. - DirectorMichael SchultzStarsTaimakVanityChristopher MurneyIn New York City, a young man searches for a Master to obtain the final level of martial arts mastery known as the Glow. He's a martial arts master who refuses to fight. This is one of the better Video Game to movie adaptations. Its cheesy yes, dated yes, but cmon its fun and its not as badly butchered as other video game to movie adaptations, this is still recognizable and lots of us kids who played the game fondly remembers this being our favorite movie evar as a kid growing up. lulz. - DirectorChung-Chi LiJing WuStarsJing WuCelina JadeKara WaiA female cop befriends a mysterious martial arts drifter, who turns out to be a deadly assassin. Now while the film offers nothing new, plot and action scene-wise, whats refreshing about this is the fresh new faces that are introduced. Particularly that of Jacky Wu, who could very well be the next big thing, he moves and acts very much like a young Jet Li, infact this could easily be compared to Jet's early 90's work.
Then there's the beautiful Celina Jade, who is the daughter of American Martial Arts actor Roy Horan, who if you're an martial arts fanatic might remember starred with a little guy named Jackie Chan in and early flick of his called Snake in the Eagles Shadow as a Kung Fu Assassin disguised as a priest. Shes delightful as the female lead and i hope to see more of her in the future.
There are a few familiar faces though, Kar Hui, one of my all time favorite leading kung fu screen queens makes a small appearance aswell.
Oh and as for the climactic fight scene, yes, its very reminiscent to that in the Matrix Sequel, the rain, 50+ dudes in black suits against one, however there is a few differences, Jacky Wu is an actual Martial Artist and can kick the *beep* out of Reeves & Weaving with one arm tied behind his back, that and this does NOT rely on the use of CGI effects to be awesome, its 100% all Jacky Wu. - DirectorYun-ho YangStarsYang Dong-geunAya HirayamaMasaya KatôIt is a Korean boy who went to Japan and started to learn Karate from his brother.South Korean film Based on the (EARLY) years of the life of legendary Korean martial artist Choi Bae-dal (who later changed his name to Masutatsu Oyama), founder of Kyokushinkai Karate.

Honestly, this isnt a straight up Martial Arts film by definition of the word, its geared more towards the "Revenge genre", however, this is a damn good film, one of the best ive ever seen, and it makes this list because of 1 particular scene, THE HALLWAY SCENE. Its brilliant. - DirectorKazuaki KiriyaStarsYôsuke EguchiTakao OsawaRyôko HirosueBased on a Japanese folk legend that echoes the tale of Robin Hood, this ninja thriller follows the exploits of Goemon Ishikawa (Yôsuke Eguchi), who leaves his fighting clan after its chief is murdered and uses his skills as a thief to help the poor. But after learning the identity of his leader's killer - the traitorous Hideyoshi (Eiji Okuda) - Goemon sets out on a bloody path of vengeance, joined by his loyal friend, Saizo (Takao Ôsawa).Kazuaki Kiriya has delivered one of the best-looking ninja fantasy films ever made. Many attempt it, but few actually accomplish making a "live-action anime" -- yet that is precisely what Goemon is: a movie in love with making ninjas look like superheroes ... except, ya know, superheroes who kill without remorse.

Having re-watched this film aswell as its sequel you can easily see why Jackie Chan wanted her as his equal partner in his Third Police Story Film: Supercop. The look, feel and overall tone couldn't be more different, the first was more serious with little bits of humor, this is just plain plain fun, and the pace is set in motion by the opening scenes, this one starts of with an animated opening, and a musical. Totally different from the far more serious opening of the 1st film.
With that said, this is still really enjoyable on its own.
What makes this aswell as ALL of Jackie & Jet's "Early" work stand out is the absence of wires, cranes, stuntmen, and CGI, everything you see here is real by actual martial artists, yes even the kids, and thats why the martial arts featured is top notch. No Fakes.

The movie dealt with many levels of prejudice, including sexual orientation, race, gender, religion, and the HIV/AIDS Virus. It was touching while sending a powerful message. The depiction of the victimization endured by the lead character was realistic & horrific.
Whats inspiring about the film is how he aswell as Inosanto's Character persevere through the hard ships & prejudice and uses Martial Arts as a tool to do so. It also show that Martial Arts isnt just for beating down other people into a pulp like most of the other films on this list... Its a real eye opener.
Now granted, this doesnt have the incredible fight choreography nor the stunt and action scenes the other titles have, but this film more than deserves a spot with these giants for its powerful message alone.
Its everything BOTH "Karate Kid" movies tried to be but FAILED.
Well done Ms. Inosanto.
TRIVIA: Diana Lee Inosanto is the God Daughter of Bruce Lee. - DirectorTung Cho 'Joe' CheungStarsJing BaiShaoqun YuCollin ChouA romantic comedy about the origins of the Wing Chun fighting style.Based on the early life of Yim Wing Chun, Founder of Wing Chun Kung Fu.
There are many schools of Chinese martial arts and their history date back to decades, if not centuries. Among the different sects, Wing Chun is one of the most popular and widely practiced. Kung Fu Wing Chun tells the story of origin and development of Wing Chun. (Some famous Wing Chun Students & Masters include Bruce Lee, Yip Man, Biao Yuen, Sammo Hung, & Jackie Chan. Among many others.)
Jing Bai is impressive as the title role and even more impressive is the supporting cast which includes Collin Chou as the main villain, Qiu & Wah Yuen as a Married Couple (YES, AGAIN, theyre best known in the west as the Landlord & Lady in Kung Fu Hustle, they have starred together in many more kung fu flicks afterwards including here and is always a joy to watch.) and my favorite casting of all is that of Kara Hui (of My Young Auntie fame) in the role of Wing Chuns Sifu. It reminded me of the casting of Pei-pei Cheng in the original Wing Chun with Michelle Yeoh, they reserved the role for another former "queen of kung fu cinema." And hopefully itll be another "passing of the crown moment."

In defiance, she tears away from him and trains as a Muay Thai Kick Boxer, then publicly challenges him to an organized fight before an audience of spectators.
I gotta be honest, there were certain scenes in this film that i found particularly hard to view, the domestic violence to be more specific. I HATE seeing a woman beaten and battered by their supposed 'significant other.' It makes me sick to my stomach to know vile people like that actually exist in our world. I just cant stomach it. However the film pays of in the end as the main protagonist overcomes her fears and finally steps up.
This is a true underdog story if there ever is one, people usually give the nod to Rocky for that, me? i salute the South Koreans for having the balls to tackle such a serious subject matter like this and turn it into something funny, sad, disturbing, inspiring, and entertaining all at the same time. - DirectorDavid ChungStarsMichelle YeohRichard NgTung-Shing YeeAction film about Chinese resistance after Japanese invasion in 1930's.Loads of Fun. And Like his Father, Brandon is a complete BADASS, especially in this, Brandon only completed 4 films in his short career, and his two best IMO are his two Revenge flicks, Hong Kong's Legacy of Rage & Hollywoods The Crow. Brandon is great in both films and i really felt he could have been huge, especially after the Crow.He has so much potential.
This film, like the Crow is essentially a straight up Revenge flick, but unlike in The Crow, Brandon showcases his martial arts abilities here, where in the Crow he is more of a supernatural angel with a vengeance. I could say this is his most violent and bloody movie out of the four of his completed films.
