- DirectorAditya ChopraStarsShah Rukh KhanKajolAmrish PuriWhen Raj meets Simran in Europe, it isn't love at first sight but when Simran moves to India for an arranged marriage, love makes its presence felt. One of the great classics of contemporary Indian cinema - a perfect mesh of romance, comedy, and heartfelt melodrama.
10/10 - DirectorRakesh RoshanStarsRakhee GulzarSalman KhanShah Rukh KhanKaran and Arjun reincarnate in the different parts of the country. But the faith of their previous mother brings them together in order to avenge their death.True-blue masala entertainer with the two Khans standing proud. Does get a bit jarring at times, but overall great fun.
8/10 - DirectorDavid DhawanStarsGovindaKarisma KapoorHarishIn order to avenge his insult against wealthy Hoshiarchand Choudhary; Pandit Shaadiram Gharjodhe asks Raju; a coolie by profession to masquerade as a wealthy business tycoon so that he can get marry to Choudhary's daughter Malti. The beginning of Govinda's landmark "No. 1" comedy tag, and a great hilarious start at that!
9/10 - DirectorRam Gopal VarmaStarsAamir KhanUrmila MatondkarJackie ShroffA middle-class young woman who dreams of Bollywood fame is caught in a love triangle between her childhood friend and a famous actor.(Rangeela) - A film truly ahead of its times, with a fresh story devoid of excess melodrama, great music by the maestro A.R Rahman, beautiful cinematography, and excellent performances by the lead players.
10/10 - DirectorIndra KumarStarsSanjay KapoorMadhuri DixitMukesh KhannaRaja and Madhu fall in love and decide to get married. However, her brothers are against the alliance and devise a plan to drive the two apart.Outrageously bad for the most part, with the exception of a few good songs and Madhuri Dixit's charismatic performance.
4/10 - DirectorUmesh MehraStarsAkshay KumarMamta KulkarniMohnish BehlA police officer impersonates his murdered twin brother in order to bring his killers to justice.Nothing good to say about this one. A seasoned entertainer like Akshay Kumar is no match for cacophonous music, an inane and confusing storyline, and worst of all, Mamta Kulkarni.
1/10 - DirectorRajkumar SantoshiStarsBobby DeolTwinkle KhannaRaj BabbarA naive young man and a rich city girl fall in love. Her stepfather, however, doesn't approve of the match and will stop at nothing to split the pair.Typical star-crossed love story that is taken a notch above average by great songs, cinematography, and decent direction.
6/10 - DirectorRajiv MehraStarsShah Rukh KhanJuhi ChawlaVivek MushranA social worker tries diligently to steer a group of wayward street urchins on the right path. But his childhood friend, now a fearless gangster, plans to bring the children into his fold.Hands down, one of SRK's worst films to date. Excessively loud, violent, and over-the-top. All in all headache-inducing. Juhi Chawla is the only positive thing here.
2/10 - DirectorMani RatnamStarsArvind SwamyManisha KoiralaNassarA Hindu man and a Muslim woman fall in love in a small village and move to Mumbai, where they have two children. However, growing religious tensions and erupting riots threaten to tear the family apart.A heart-wrenching and moving masterpiece by Mani Ratnam. Great music, performances, and alarmingly realistic technical effects.
9/10 - DirectorMansoor KhanStarsAamir KhanManisha KoiralaMaster AdilAn estranged couple battle for the custody of their only son.Poetry in motion. A poignant yet emotionally gripping drama with great work by Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala and one of Anu Malik's most melodious scores. The only downside is that the melancholy becomes a bit too much to bear at times.
8/10 - DirectorDavid DhawanStarsGovindaKarisma KapoorTabuA village-based singer attempts to find love and fame in the big city.Another fun entertainer from the Govinda-David Dhawan-Karishma Kapoor trio, along with Tabu this time. Thankfully the great comedy makes up for the mediocre music (the Govinda-David combo is usually known for catchy, albeit inane songs) and horrid costumes and cinematography (even for a Govinda movie).
7/10 - DirectorUmesh MehraStarsAkshay KumarRekhaRaveena TandonA man (Akshay Kumar) searches for his missing brother (Inder Kumar) who is also wanted by the police.Akshay Kumar lifting a wrestler called "The Undertaker" on his back, sporting a ponytail for part of the movie, and romancing the much older Rekha in a song called "In the Night No Control"...can it get much worse than this? I think not.
2/10 - DirectorRaj KanwarStarsSunny DeolKarisma KapoorSalman KhanA hitman working for a crime boss falls for a woman but she is married off to her childhood friend. Later, when the woman's and her husband's life comes under threat from the crime boss, the hitman becomes their protector. An intense romantic drama with good performances by the leads, a gripping storyline, and great songs that are unfortunately ruined by terribly out-of-sync choreography. Salman Khan deserves a special mention here for shining in a supporting role.
7/10 - DirectorDharmesh DarshanStarsAamir KhanKarisma KapoorSuresh OberoiRaja, a taxi driver, falls in love with Aarti, a rich girl, and marries her against her parents' wishes. Later, her parents try to create differences amongst the couple.Even the presence of two stellar performers, Aamir Khan and Karishma Kapoor, can't save this disastrous mess of a movie. Annoyingly immature and redundant. It owes 100 percent of its success to the great music by Nadeem-Shravan.
3/10 - DirectorSubhash GhaiStarsShah Rukh KhanMahima ChaudhryAmrish PuriKishorilal wants an Indian bride for his westernised son. He gets him engaged to Ganga, his friend's daughter, and brings her to USA. But she shares a deeper bond with Arjun, Kishorilal's foster son.A true masterstroke by the showman Subhash Ghai. His trademark excellent sense of drama combined with heartfelt performances by SRK and Mahima Chaudhary make this a sheer delight to watch on the big screen. Not to mention the great music and work of the technical team.
Only downside is that it tends to be a bit black and white at times.
10/10 - DirectorAziz MirzaStarsShah Rukh KhanJuhi ChawlaAditya PancholiRahul Joshi wants to be a successful businessman so he works hard for his boss Siddharth. One day Rahul meets Seema, an up and coming model, and he feels like he's finally met his match. Will Seema fall for Rahul?A sweet, romantic film with the golden pair of SRK and Juhi Chawla that captures simplicity and fun on screen that stays with the viewer long afterwards.
9/10 - DirectorDavid DhawanStarsAkshay KumarJuhi ChawlaParesh RawalA slacker (Akshay Kumar) must impress a wealthy man to marry her daughter (Juhi Chawla). One of the most underrated Bollywood comedies of the 90's. If you are willing to watch it with the right frame of mind, you will definitely enjoy it. Juhi Chawla is as usual hilarious, and the comedy by Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal is a precursor to what we got to see in Hera Pheri.
8/10 - DirectorYash ChopraStarsShah Rukh KhanMadhuri DixitKarisma KapoorA grand musical about three passionate and dreamy characters: Rahul, Pooja and Nisha. Will their dreams come true? Will they find their true love?Along with DDLJ, one of the more down-to-earth films to come out of the Yash Raj camp. One wishes they would return to this simplicity in storytelling. Nothing too showy or over-the-top unlike their work nowadays. Maintains a great balance between fantasy and reality, and has a standout performance by Karishma Kapoor.
