IMDb's 2024 TV Guide

So much is revealed in the Season 3 trailer for “Hacks,” we’re surprised it wasn’t announced whether or not this would be the Emmy winning-comedy’s final season. We do know S3 reunites comedian Deborah Vance and her former writer Ava a few years after the veteran performer pushed her daughter figure out of the nest so they could each pursue success on their own terms. Both women found forms of respective redemption at the end of Season 2, though we get a sense that Ava hasn’t exactly landed on her feet back in LA, while Deborah enjoys the luxe, late-career success she deserves. We love how the show has deftly maneuvered around the whole comedy world’s “you can’t be funny anymore” lament by focusing on a main character who is evolving on her own terms, and the story’s apparent nods to Jean Smart’s health scare already has us reaching for a hanky. As Paul W. Downs (Jimmy) and Megan Statler(Kayla) are upped to series regulars this season, get ready for a true cavalcade of stars situation with guest appearances by Christina Hendricks and Christopher Lloyd.

Season 3 premieres on Max May 2

Apple TV+ continues its investment in high concept sci-fi series with the upcoming adaptation of the massively popular novel by Blake Crouch. And prepare for the treat this is Joel Edergton playing two versions of the same character: a physicist who a man who meets an alternate version of himself who has already meddled in his life. Fans of Crouch have been kvelling ever since he was announced as the showrunner/lead writer for the series, and the first look at the black cube that allows travel between worlds ratcheted up anticipation for the May debut. These are the same people who will tell you exactly how and why the adaptation of his “Wayward Pines” was a disappointment, so trust us: their excitement is palpable.

Premieres on Apple TV+ May 8

Podcasters set out to investigate a group disappearance in an Irish village on Samhain in Netflix’s new series “Bodkin.” Starring Will Forte and Sioban Cullen, the seven-episode series is a darkly comedic thriller made for the post-Serial world. “At the time, I was thinking a lot about the morality of true crime,” says series creator Jez Scharf, who feels the genre went through a phase where creators would “take any crime-ridden, tragic event, and story-ize it to make it palatable.” If you’re getting Wickerman-meets-”Broadchurch” vibes from the trailer, you’re not alone. What starts as a small town mystery seems destined to grow into something much more unpredictable in this exploration of the twisted process of turning misfortune into entertainment.

Premieres May 9

After a 13-year hiatus, Russell T. Davies settles back in as "Doctor Who" showrunner, rebooting the series with a bi-generated and far less stressed Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and new companion played by "Coronation Street" veteran Millie Gibson. As Davies has hinted that the bi-generation event launched a "Doctor Who" version of the multiverse, we can't wait to see just who might make a visit to the TARDIS this season.

Anne Rice heads know what to expect next in the gothic tale of Louis, Claudia, and Lestat de Lioncourt. Two words: theater people. Erm, we mean vampires. Ben Daniels joins the cast as a series regular in the role of Santiago, an influential member of the Theatre des Vampires who may spell danger for Louis and Claudia. Speaking of Claudia, Delainey Hayles is replacing Bailey Bass as the teenage vamp this season. And get excited for Assad Zaman’s role to expand as Armand and Louis grow closer …

Season 2 premieres May 12

Penelope and Colin are poised to take center stage in “Bridgerton” Season 3, as their slow-burn romance finally looks to be heating up. The hit series left us with a lot of wild reveals in 2022, namely the identity of Lady Whistledown and Colin’s disclosure that he would “never” marry Penelope. But we’ll just see if he can keep that energy in Season 3 as Pen sets out to find a husband. Actors Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have called the upcoming story arc "a season for the wallflowers,” but with the steamy scenes Netflix has been teasing, we suspect any lingering shrinking violets will blossom somewhere between the Part 1 release on May 16 and Part 2 on June 13.

Season 3 premieres May 16

The twisty family drama leans even harder into the sci-fi (and strangeness) this season as more about the terrifying cosmic sinkhole on the Abbott family ranch is revealed. New showrunner Charles Murray adds more time-travel to the mix (and the theory that "time is fluid") with a season that jumps through the decades, centuries, and perhaps even alternate timelines? Put on your thinking cap and get ready to binge as all seven episodes drop on May 16.

Season 2 premieres May 16

Possessed pigs, demonic infestations, and “wayward” technology are just a few of the paranormal phenomena awaiting fans of “Evil” when the show returns to Paramount+ this May. The fourth and final season has a generous 14 episodes to wrap up its many storylines, but we’re most interested in seeing where the RSM Fertility arc goes after that staggering Season 3 cliffhanger.

Season 4 premieres May 23

Jeremy Renner is back for Season 3 of this popular crime thriller from TV’s golden boy Taylor Sheridan. The season premiere on June 2 will mark the first time Renner has returned to the screen since his near-fatal 2023 snow plow accident that left the actor hospitalized with more than 30 broken bones. But there’s no rest for the weary in Kingstown, as Renner’s Mike McLusky contends with the Russian mob, a prison drug war, and a familiar face from his incarcerated past.

Season 3 premieres June 2

So what’s the big deal about "The Acolyte"? For casual fans, it’s simply a new Jedi adventure. But for Star Wars buffs this Disney+ series will be the first live action depiction of the High Republic. Set 100 years before the Skywalker saga began, it follows a young Jedi and her master as they uncover sinister forces brewing during a period of peace in the galaxy. There’s speculation that the series baddie will be Darth Plagueis, who EVERYONE knows was Emperor Palatine’s master. Amandla Stenberg ('Bodies Bodies Bodies,' 'The Hate U Give') stars alongside Lee Jung-jae ("Squid Game"), and showrunner Leslye Headland has said she developed the project specifically for Stenberg. Honestly, we’re most excited to see if Headland is able to infuse the Star Wars universe with some of the edginess she brought to “Russian Doll.”

Premieres June 4

Time needed to be spent setting the table in the first season of "House of the Dragon" to introduce us to the Targaryen ancestors, and to help us understand all of those Velaryon and Hightower family dynamics, too. Oh, and the Triarchy and their agent of chaos, the Crabfeeder. The second season promises a "very bloody feast to come" according to showrunner Ryan Condal, as the civil war between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon II takes center stage. An uptick in action and an abundance of dragons should help to boost the show's popularity after a successful maiden launch, as we await the fates of the multiple "Game of Thrones" spin-offs in development at HBO. And here's one for the "GoT" faithful: Behind the scenes, Alan Taylor, who directed a handful of the flagship show's pivotal episodes, joins the crew as director and exec producer.

Season 2 premieres June 16

What we don’t know about Season 4 of Prime Video’s subversive superhero series could fill the library at Vought Tower, and yet there are a few interesting developments for us to ponder while we wait for Butcher and the boys to return. Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry will join the cast as supes, while Rosemarie Dewitt is stepping in as Hewie’s mom. What we really want to know is, what character is Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing in all this? The actor appears briefly in the Season teaser, but creator Eric Kripke seems to be keeping all other details to himself. Oh! And remember the spin-off series “Gen V?” Apparently some of the major plot points (cough, cough) from that show will play a big part in "The Boys" next storyline.

Season 4 Premieres June 13

Opening night at The Bear didn't exactly go off without a hitch, but like a queue of hungry patrons outside, fans are eagerly waiting for Season 3 to satiate their cravings in 2024. The FX series already claimed a handful of hardware at the 2024 Golden Globes — including Best Comedy Series, despite a slight head-tilt at the show's categorization — and there's more sure to come this awards season. Will Carmy be freed from the walk-in and get a hold of his temper (and relationship with Claire)? Will Sydney stick it out or crack under pressure? Will Mama Donna Berzatto show up to support her kids' endeavor? Much remains to be seen, and our fingers are crossed for a few more epic cameos as it all plays out.

Season 3 expected in June 2024

It feels like the entire internet is gearing up for the fourth and final season of this comic book adaptation from Netflix. When we last saw the Hargreeves, the super siblings had lost their powers after a reset of the universe created a new timeline. With fresh and formidable enemies around every corner, can the family navigate this new world and regain their abilities? We’ll all have to tune in on August 8 when the full season drops to find out. Oh! And did we mention Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross are joining the cast? Legendary.

Season 4 premieres August 8

Picking up right after The Batman, where The Riddler nearly made Gotham the new Atlantis, we'll see how Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, looks to take advantage of the chaos and establish himself as the city's new boss. Colin Farrell returns to the role with his layers of make-up and prosthetics, and he'll be challenged by Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Cobblepot's deceased former boss, Carmine Falcone. Cristin Milioti, someone we'd watch every day in anything, plays Falcone in the next chapter of the DC Elseworlds universe, the franchise that lives independently from the universe James Gunn is building. We, perhaps like you, are wondering how this story will unfurl without Batman shutting it down is a story credibility test we're here for.

Season 1 expected in 2024

Daredevil fans have been really been through the wringer, but Disney is making every attempt to ensure this revival of Matt Murdock’s saga retains some of the magic that made "Daredevil" such a hit on Netflix before its cancellation after three seasons. Fans were thrilled to learn in 2022 that Marvel would be reclaiming the IP and developing a revival series, but in September 2023, Disney let overhauled the creative team and hired new writers and directors to complete the project. Now that the project is back on course for a 2024 release date, we can relax a bit, because Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin), and Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher) are all back on board to reprise their roles. And with the upcoming (and interconnected) mini-series "Echo" leaning into more intense action and violence, fans of the original series should expect a tone closer to the Netflix vibe than the usual family-friendly fare you’d expect on Disney+. The release date has yet to be confirmed, but we're hoping this finds its way to screens in 2024.

Season 1 expected in 2024

Marvel broke the superhero series mold in the best way with 2021's "WandaVision," paying tribute to decades of beloved sitcoms with Wanda Maximoff at the center of the story. In the end, it turned out she wasn't the only witch playing house in Westview, and the reveal of nosy neighbor Agnes as sorceress Agatha Harkness made for a magic-filled finale battle, and a not-so-conclusive end for Agatha. The upcoming villain-centric spin-off has already had a handful of title changes — we gather that Darkhold Diaries references the book of the damned containing details of the Scarlet Witch Prophecy, which Agatha alluded to in the finale. We're not sure what all that means, but you can sign us up for more Kathryn Hahn any day, especially if she has a coven of ancient witches onhand (potentially including Aubrey Plaza and Patti Lupone) to stir up trouble in the MCU.

Season 1 expected in 2024

Taylor Sheridan's ever expanding TV universe continues to grow with this latest "Yellowstone" spin-off. Fans of the show will recognize the title as the name of the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas (not the year 6666, which would make for a very interesting timeline jump for the Dutton family). At the time of this writing, casting has not been announced, but most bets are on Jefferson White and Kathryn Kelly making the jump to this series, as Jimmy and Emily have spent some time at the ranch during Season 5 of "Yellowstone."

Season 1 expected in 2024

Dominique Thorne reprises her role as tech genius and MIT student Riri Williams in this upcoming six-episode miniseries. Although not much has been revealed about the plot, we do know that it takes place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will be (at least partially) set in Riri's hometown of Chicago. Joining the cast are Alden Ehrenreich, Anthony Ramos, Cree Summer, and Sacha Baron Cohen, who is rumored to be playing the demon Mephisto. MCU fans have been predicting Mephisto's arrival in every series since "Wandavision," so we'll have to wait and see if he makes an appearance.

Season 1 expected in 2024

The series that brought FBI agent Peter Sutherland out of the White House’s basement and made actor Gabriel Basso a household name became a global hit last spring, causing Netflix to ring the line with a Season 2 renewal soon after it debuted. Originally, showrunner Shawn Ryan (the genre expert behind “The Shield,” “Lie to Me”) envisioned a new storyline for each potential new season, though it’s hard to imagine the romance between Sutherland and tech entrepreneur Rose Larkin taking a back seat, even as he’s dispatched on his first overseas assignment and she’s potentially headed back to California to rebuild her life out there.

Season 2 expected in 2024

Rarely are spin-offs as popular as "Wednesday." "Smallville" co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, guided by Tim Burton's paternal love, breathed new life into the character of Wednesday Addams, but it was Jenna Ortega's performance that made us tune in for millions of hours and all dance along to that song by The Cramps. Season 1 delivered the twists and multiple cliffhangers, as well as a promise to get darker in Season 2. So what's coming for Wednesday? We imagine we'll soon discover whether her one-time friend Tyler Galpin was admitted to Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital, and if Christina Ricci is returning as Miss Thornhill, good luck trying to keep that secret. Wednesday now owns a cell, and she quickly learned how creepy and threatening that can be. Can we get those custom emojis too?

Season 2 expected in 2024

Joe Goldberg will return to New York City for a potential reckoning with his past in the fifth and final season of the addictive Netflix series that saw the book-loving serial killer embrace a new year/new me mentality over four increasingly implausible seasons. Season 4 saw Joe, living in London as Professor Jonathan Moore, dissociate across 10 episodes and finally acknowledge the fact he isn’t a good person. Star Penn Badgley, whose industry savvy and hunk status increased exponentially from his “Gossip Girl” era, has said the final season will see Joe explore a new stage of self-actualization. And as we saw in the final moments of S4, at least one of people who crossed his path and lived to tell about it will return in Season 5.

Season 5 expected in 2024

We’re not sure yet when to expect Season 17 (or, Season 2 if you’re counting “Evolution” separately) to premiere, but we do know filming is set to begin mid-January “at a breakneck pace to get episodes to you ASAP!” That’s according to series star Paget Brewster, who shared the news on social media back in November 2023.

Season 17 expected in 2024

We can’t say for certain that Charles, Oliver, and Mabel will return with a new season of “Only Murders in the Building” this year, but there is good reason to hold out hope. Showrunner John Hoffman confirmed the writers’ room went back to work in early October 2023, which may indicate the series is right on track for a fourth consecutive summer season premiere. As for the plot, it seems likely the Arconia residents will be hard at work solving the murder of Charles's stunt double, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), who was shot in the Season 3 finale.

Season 4 expected in 2024

We may be in for a bit of a wait for the return of “Tulsa King,” the cowboy gangster crime drama from TV sweetheart Taylor Sheridan. Even before the WGA strike put productions on hold, the Sylvester Stallone vehicle was facing delays due to showrunner Terence Winter stepping down in February 2023. Can Dwight get out of his cliffhanger arrest at the end of Season 1? We have our fingers crossed we get to find out sometime before the end of the year.

Season 2 expected in 2024

The first season of this breakout Apple TV+ series feels so long past that we wonder whether we've been severed ourselves. But, it's probably (hopefully...) just a longing to know what's to come after a gripping cliffhanger left us slack-jawed after the finale. Producer Ben Stiller has been tight-lipped with details, but has hinted at upcoming news about the show on social media, giving us hope that production will pick back up soon, following the WGA strikes in 2023. We must know what the re-merging of Mark, Helly, Dylan, and Irving's Innie/Outie consciousness will lead to, plus we're dying to know what other departments might be tucked away within the halls of Lumon Industries.

It’s somehow fitting it was a letter to shareholders that confirmed this popular satire series would be returning to TV in 2024. No details have been revealed on where the show will go next or who will be involved in production, but we feel certain we haven’t seen the last of the Masked Men and their life-or-death stakes competition.

Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed teddy bear is headed to TV with a prequel series that follows a teenage John Bennett (Max Burkholder) as he navigates the terrors of high school. All seven episodes of the new series drop on Peacock the same day for a wicked fun binge watching experience.

Premiered January 11

May "True Detective" make like "Fargo" and prove there's still life in the aging crime anthology series. Four years after its most recent season, new showrunner Issa López pulls off a GOAT casting move by landing Jodie Foster to star alongside boxer-turned-actor Kali Reis (who we just realized will star in a 'Wind River' sequel that somehow wasn't on our radar). The new season is set in Alaska and the mystery kicks off with scientists who go missing from a research base. Foster and Reis play the cops who reunite after a case that went south years ago, but we're plotzing over the idea the show finally leans into supernatural themes it has flirted with in the past.

Premiered January 14

SVU fans had to wait longer than expected for Season 25 (!!!) of this iconic crime show, but now that the strikes are behind us, we can all get back to enjoying the longest-running American primetime drama. Cast members come and go on a legacy series like this (notably, Molly Burnett is not returning as Grace Muncy), but Kelli Giddish is confirmed for one new episode, after her controversial mid-season departure in Season 24, Episode 9 to become a professor.

Season 25 premiered January 18

Definitely not for the kids, this animated musical comedy is full of sinners, demons, and all the bad behavior you’d imagine from a series set in Hell. Creator Vivienne Medrano financed her YouTube pilot for “Harbin Hotel” largely via Patreon, but was able to gain the backing of A24 and MGM for a full season on Prime Video.

Premiered January 19

Creative minds behind "Narcos" and "Justified" team up to help Sofía Vergara shed aspects of her "Modern Family" image with a Netflix series that dramatizes the life of Griselda Blanco Restrepo, a drug lord who rose to prominence in 1970s Miami as cocaine became the city’s main currency. Restrepo's been immortalized in pop culture by documentarians and rappers alike, and Catherine Zeta-Jones played her in a TV movie a handful of years ago. The series, which does not have the endorsement of the Blanco family, is set for a single, 6-episode run, though we would totally watch a sequel series based on her son, Michael Corleone Blanco.

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg step back into their executive producer roles for a third WWII TV event (after 2001’s "Band of Brothers" and 2010’s "The Pacific") based on Donald L. Miller’s 2007 book. An ensemble cast — led by Austin Butler and including Barry Keoghan, Ncuti Gatwa, and Callum Turner — brings to life the U.S. Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group (also known as the “Bloody Hundredth”) and their efforts in Europe to defeat the Nazis.

Premiered January 26

This streaming series from Donald Glover and his "Atlanta" collaborator Francesca Sloane knows how to get attention. It already knows you might be wondering why it has to exist, or why it shares a name with that Brad and Angelina movie if it's not an actual remake. You might plotz if you didn't know Phoebe Waller Bridge was supposed to star opposite Glover before "PEN15" genius Maya Erksine took over the role. We have a feeling any resistance to the series will fade week to week as these two strangers get to know one another as fake spouses working with the same spy agency. The episodes are designed as mysteries of the week, similar to "Poker Face."

Premiered February 2

In Season 20, Palmer confessed his love for Knight in front of the team, while Agent Torres confronted a threatening figure from his past in a shocking cliffhanger, and you can expect these storylines to develop when Season 21 premieres this winter. We hope the series honors "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum) in some way, after the actor passed in September 2023 at the age of 90.

Season 21 premiered February 12

After six incredibly successful seasons, CBS is bidding farewell to this “The Big Bang Theory” prequel. It’s likely that the final 14 episodes will take audiences beyond Sheldon’s time in Medford, TX to his earliest days at Caltech in Pasadena, California, where he will eventually work as a theoretical physicist. But before the boy genius goes all west coast, we suspect “Young Sheldon” will address some of Season 6’s biggest cliffhangers, namely the devastating tornado that destroyed Meemaw’s house, flipped George and Missy’s car, and forced Georgie to shelter in a bathroom with his in-laws.

Season 7 premiered February 15

Eager fans have been waiting for the return of “The Rookie” since the Season 5 finale back in May 2023, which closed with a twist ending: Just as the LAPD captures the person responsible for recent attacks against the police, another mysterious figure appears who may be the key to unraveling the case. In addition to the main cast, Lisseth Chavez — who became a fan favorite during Season 5 as Officer Celina Juarez — has been promoted to series regular.

Season 6 premiered February 20

Over three seasons and 62 episodes, Nickelodeon's animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender" has won over scores of fans, and is STILL finding new converts almost 20 years after it debuted. Most people would like to forget the last attempt to translate the IP to live action, and that’s probably why fans are remaining cautious about Netflix’s latest anime adaptation, especially after original "Avatar" creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko departed the reboot over creative diferences. Nevertheless, it's Netflix. And that means there’s always a chance they’re going to have a mega-hit on their hands. Showrunner Albert Kim's last project was the well-received animated series "Pantheon," which may be a sign of good things to come.

Forget everything you know about the proposed film trilogy about the fate of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after being whisked away by a helicopter in Season 9. Those projects have been reworked to become “The Ones Who Live,” a mini-series focused on the reunion of Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) after they disappeared in "The Walking Dead" Seasons 9 and 10, respectively. More recently, the pair made cameos in the final season of "TWD," teasing their return to the franchise.
