- DirectorGeorge StevensStarsMillie PerkinsShelley WintersJoseph SchildkrautDuring World War II, a teenage Jewish girl named Anne Frank and her family are forced into hiding in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands. This resonates for me as the worst casting in history, so bad it ruins the entire film. Director George Stevens was so obsessed with finding an Audrey Hepburn type (AH was herself not available - as well as being way too old at almost 30) to play the title role (that of a thirteen year old German) that he cast an American model in her early 20s that he'd seen in a magazine...
- DirectorTony RichardsonStarsRichard BurtonClaire BloomMary UreA disillusioned, angry university graduate comes to terms with his grudge against middle-class life and values.Richard Burton, great actor but was way too seasoned to be convincing as a disillusioned 25 year old.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsGary OldmanWinona RyderAnthony HopkinsThe centuries old vampire Count Dracula comes to England to seduce his barrister Jonathan Harker's fiancée Mina Murray and inflict havoc in the foreign land. Some very dodgy castings overall in this one (it seems the filmmakers did not understand the novel at all despite their bigging up the fact that they were attempting to remain true to it) but Keanu Reeves takes the prize. WTF was he doing in this movie???
- DirectorBusby BerkeleyStarsJohn GarfieldClaude RainsThe Dead End KidsA champion boxer on the lamb, believed to have committed murder while drunk, takes refuge and finds redemption at a farm for delinquent youths. The ultra smooth and sophisticated Claude Rains as a tough New York City cop, named Monty!
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.Iconic to some but Jack Nicholson is woefully miscast as someone who is meant (as per the novel) to be an average down to earth guy with a troubled past who then slowly descends into madness... at no point does JN come across as your average down to earth dad.... and his descent into madness is way too quick.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers.Admittedly Sean Connery was not bad in this, but he lacked a certain seasoned gravitas that an even older veteran star like Gregory Peck, for example, would have brought to the role. And let's face it, it would have made more sense for Indy's dad to be American than Scottish.
