- DirectorChris PalmerStarsJensen AcklesJosh DuhamelNaya RiveraHeld hostage by the powerful Falcone crime family, Gotham City is rife with crime and corruption. Adding to the chaos is the mysterious Holiday killer, who has been targeting the underworld and leaving a trail of terror - and body bags.Day 1
Disappointing...the changes from the comic seemed mostly unnecessary since they didn't really change the story. I love the animation though.
6/10 - DirectorChris PalmerStarsJensen AcklesJosh DuhamelNaya RiveraThe killer known as Holiday continues to stalk the Falcone crime family while a new class of costumed criminal rises in Gotham City. Batman suspects that a former ally might be the serial killer.Day 1
I enjoyed this part's focus on Harvey Dent since he's one of my favourite Batman villains. but, how are they gonna make a Long Halloween movie and then cut like three of the days?
6/10 - DirectorRemi WeekesStarsSope DirisuWunmi MosakuMalaika Wakoli-AbigabaA refugee couple makes a harrowing escape from war-torn South Sudan, but then they struggle to adjust to their new life in an English town that has an evil lurking beneath the surface.Day 2
I didn't know what to expect from this but, I really enjoyed it! An engaging plot with some great scares, stellar acting and a crazy twist that completely changes the story.
8/10 - DirectorMatt DufferRoss DufferStarsAlexander SkarsgårdAndrea RiseboroughEmily Alyn LindA family takes refuge in a bomb shelter to avoid a dangerous outbreak.Day 3
A really tense Post-Apocalyptic thriller with another unexpected twist. Excited to watch this one again.
7/10 - DirectorRob SavageStarsHaley BishopJemma MooreEmma Louise WebbSix friends hire a medium to hold a seance via Zoom during lockdown, but they get far more than they bargained for as things quickly go wrong.Day 4
A pretty standard found footage ghost film that starts slow but once it gets going, it really gets going. Also, extra impressive that they could make something like this under such tight constraints.
7/10 - DirectorJeff BurrStarsTerry O'QuinnMeg FosterCaroline WilliamsAfter escaping the insane asylum in which he was incarcerated, Jerry Blake (Terry O'Quinn) impersonates a marriage counselor and manages to win over a patient (Meg Foster) and her young son (Jonathan Brandis).Day 5
Because last year I watched Stepfather 1, I thought why not the sequel for this year? Well, how about because it's a decent beginning and a decent ending with mostly a boring Hallmark romance movie in the middle.
4/10 - DirectorDavid SchmoellerStarsChuck ConnorsJocelyn JonesJon Van NessA group of young friends stranded at a secluded roadside museum are stalked by a masked assailant who uses his telekinetic powers to control the attraction's mannequins.Day 6
The plot makes no sense if you stop to think about it for even a second but, it's still got a lot of fun scares and a creepy design for the main antagonist that I love a lot.
6/10 - DirectorMichael GiacchinoStarsGael García BernalLaura DonnellyHarriet Sansom HarrisFollows a lycanthrope superhero who fights evil using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline.Day 7
This was awesome! I didn't know what to expect but I was surprised by how much fun this was! Definitely the most fun I've had watching anything Marvel for a while. My only problem was that I wish it was longer!
8/10 - DirectorKevin KölschDennis WidmyerStarsAlexandra EssoeAmanda FullerNoah SeganA hopeful young starlet uncovers the ominous origins of the Hollywood elite and enters into a deadly agreement in exchange for fame and fortune.Day 8
A bit slow at times but, a really interesting movie with a foreboding and moody atmosphere about how the Hollywood system screws over rising stars.
6/10 - DirectorRobert FuestStarsVincent PriceJoseph CottenVirginia NorthDoctor, scientist, organist, and biblical scholar Anton Phibes seeks revenge on the nine doctors he considers responsible for the death of his wife.Day 9
I love Vincent Price in everything he's in and he was definetely the most entertaining part of this movie. But, overall, this didn't grab me like I was hoping. Although, I'd say it's still worth a watch for the amazing set design.
5/10 - DirectorDavid PriorStarsJames Badge DaleMarin IrelandSasha FrolovaOn the trail of a missing girl, an ex-cop comes across a secretive group attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity.Day 10
I had no idea what to expect from this but I really enjoyed it! Takes the usual horror movie curse stuff from movies like The Ring and takes in a really cool almost Lovecraftian direction.
7/10 - CreatorJoseph PellingBecky SloanBaker TerryStarsBecky SloanJoseph PellingBaker TerryFollow Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Green Duck as they learn about family, electricity, and death. Beware the strange and dangerous twists that come their way as their seemingly-safe house reveals that they live in an actual nightmare.Day 11
I honestly thought this got quietly cancelled since we hadn't heard any news about it for a few years. But, it's finally here and I think it lived up to the hype. It's just as weird and creepy as the original web series but the characters have actual personalities now! It's also really funny, which I wasn't expecting.
9/10 - DirectorClive BarkerStarsCraig ShefferDavid CronenbergAnne BobbyA troubled young man is drawn to a mythical place called Midian where a variety of friendly monsters are hiding from humanity. Meanwhile, a sadistic serial killer is looking for a patsy.Day 12
This was...weird...starts off as a kind of psychological thriller, then shifts to a monsters vs humans thing which was fun but the two plots never really gelled together for me. Still enjoyable overall for all the weird freaks and monsters but that might just be me.
6/10 - DirectorTibor TakácsStarsStephen DorffChrista DentonLouis TrippKids left home alone accidentally unleash a horde of malevolent demons from a mysterious hole in their suburban backyard.Day 13
I love movies about kids finding a weird supernatural thing and then having to deal with it. So if you take that concept and add a whole load of amazing practical effects, that's a perfect movie for me.
7/10 - DirectorKim Jee-woonStarsLim Soo-jungYum Jung-ahKim Kap-suAfter being institutionalized in a mental hospital, Su-mi reunites with her sister, Su-yeon, and they return to live at their country home. But strange events plague the house, leading to surprising revelations and a shocking conclusion.Day 14
Wow, this is like the complete opposite of yesterday's movie. I don't want to say too much about it to not spoil anything. But, if you like dark, depressing movies about childhood trauma then you'll...I don't wanna say enjoy this but you should watch it.
7/10 - DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsClaire FoyJoshua LeonardJay PharoahA young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution, where she is confronted by her greatest fear - but is it real or a product of her delusion?Day 15
This could've been amazing, the idea of being involuntarily committed has always scared me but, a lot of the decisions the MC made kinda had me siding with the shady mental institute? I don't wanna spoil it so, I'll just say she isn't very likeable. But I did love the cinematography, the whole movie had a very claustrophobic and tense atmosphere due to being shot on an iPhone which added a lot to the overall film.
5/10 - DirectorBruce McDonaldStarsStephen McHattieLisa HouleGeorgina ReillyA radio host interprets the possible outbreak of a deadly virus which infects the small Ontario town he is stationed in.Day 16
This is an amazing concept brought down by not taking it far enough. A virus that spreads through sound that basically turns people into babbling zombies sounds awesome. But, most of the movie is set in a radio station and just listening to what's happening from people outside the station.
4/10 - DirectorMichele SoaviStarsRupert EverettFrançois Hadji-LazaroAnna FalchiA cemetery man must kill the dead a second time when they become zombies.Day 17
This is one of the most insane movies I've ever seen. It's got flesh-eating zombies, a guy gets married to a severed head, the Grim Reaper shows up, it's great!
8/10 - DirectorCorin HardyStarsJoseph MawleBojana NovakovicMichael McElhattonA family who moved into a remote mill house in Ireland finds themselves in a fight for survival with demonic creatures living in the woods.Day 18
It's ok, there are some cool monster designs and plenty of ooey-gooey effects to keep me a least semi-interested but the story isn't much. At least it ends with a monster-baby melting in the light of the sun.
5/10 - DirectorBrandon CronenbergStarsAndrea RiseboroughChristopher AbbottJennifer Jason LeighAn agent works for a secretive organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people's bodies - ultimately driving them to commit assassinations for high-paying clients.Day 19
One of my favourites of the month! I actually watched it twice because, admittedly, I didn't get it the first time. But, watching it again and knowing what was gonna happen helped me enjoy it more. I wouldn't recommend it to Grandma though, it's pretty intense.
8/10 - DirectorAntonia BirdStarsGuy PearceRobert CarlyleDavid ArquetteIn a remote military outpost in the 19th century, Captain John Boyd and his regiment embark on a rescue mission which takes a dark turn when they are ambushed by a sadistic cannibal.Day 20
A fast-paced, gory cannibal movie that's also pretty fricking gay. Whether that was on purpose or not idk but it ends with the two main characters dying in each other's arms sooooo
6/10 - DirectorHenry SelickStarsDakota FanningTeri HatcherJohn HodgmanWandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, an 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.Day 21
I got to see this in the cinema, which was pretty incredible. I've seen it before, of course, but seeing it on the big screen just put it on a whole other level.
9/10 - DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsAdrienne BarbeauJamie Lee CurtisJanet LeighAn unearthly fog rolls into a small coastal town exactly 100 years after a ship mysteriously sank in its waters.Day 22
Very slow, but unlike other Carpenter movies like Halloween, it doesn't pay off in a satisfying way. It built up to this epic final confrontation but then it just kind of fizzled out. But, it did have some fun kills and scenes so, it's not all bad.
5/10 - DirectorJulia DucournauStarsVincent LindonAgathe RousselleGarance MarillierFollowing a series of unexplained crimes, a father is reunited with the son who has been missing for ten years.Day 23
I knew nothing about this movie going in other than the director, Julia Ducournau, who directed Raw, one of my favourite movies of 2017. And the first thing I have to say is this isn't a horror movie. It seems like it's going to be for the first 20-30 minutes, but then it quickly shifts into a more personal story about; loss, trauma and growing old. It was a lot and I've been sitting with it for a while now, not knowing what to say about it. But I was thinking about what it could all mean until I realised that this movie doesn't care about logic. It's much more focused on the why than the how, these strange choices the film makes, including the inciting incident, which I won't spoil, aren't about why. They're much more metaphorical and emotional. It feels weird to say about a movie containing so much sex and violence and really weird shit but, it really affected me and it was kind of beautiful.
9/10 - DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsLori CardilleTerry AlexanderJoseph PilatoAs the world is overrun by zombies, a group of scientists and military personnel sheltering in an underground bunker in Florida must decide on how they should deal with the undead horde.Day 24
This was kind of a palate cleanser after yesterday. A lot more simple than Titane, its a pretty straightforward movie that explores the question of "who are the real monsters?" like a lot of zombie movies do. But in a really compelling way with an incredible performance from Joe Pilato as this horrible sergeant who clearly went mad with power after the zombies appeared.
7/10
(Also there's a certain death in the movie that was really horrific and I can't get out of my head)
