FX's critically-acclaimed historical drama Shogun finished up its 10-episode run last week, and Anna Sawai was universally praised for her performance as the tragic Toda Mariko.
Amid the Emmy-nomination talk, the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star is certain to be inundated with movie offers, and we wouldn't be surprised if she was given a shot at a major superhero role at some point.
Sawai spoke about her career and potential move to Hollywood to THR, revealing that her big break could have come much earlier, but her commitment to her J-Pop band, Faky, meant she was forced to miss her chance to audition for the role of Katana in 2016's Suicide Squad.
“After the training — multiple years of training — you are either lucky and join a group, or debut as a solo singer, or you’re gone,” Sawai explained. “I was like, ‘This is my chance!’ And then...

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. The original article follows:
The long-awaited third entry in the Tron franchise is finally in production. Six years after it was first announced that Jared Leto was in talks to star in a Tron project called Tron: Ares, the movie was all set to start filming last August – but then it had to wait out the writers and actors strikes. With those strikes over, filming is finally underway. Earlier today, we heard a quote from cast member Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), who said this film will “really push forward what can be done, from a visual perspective.” Now, we have another quote about the movie – and this is the one that every Tron fan has been waiting to hear. Jeff Bridges reveals he is all set to return to the Tron series that he helped to establish all the way back in 1982, for Tron: Ares.
After many years of waiting, Tron: Ares, a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy, is finally in production. Tron: Legacy's director Joseph Kosinski hasn’t returned and neither have any of the film’s stars – well, apart from one (you can probably guess who it is from the headline). It doesn’t even look like Daft Punk will be returning to give us another memorable score for the third film in the Tron franchise.
It’s not quite all-new though, with reports stating that Jeff Bridges is all set to make an appearance in the film. Bridges himself revealed the news on the Film Comment podcast, stating that he was excited to be working with Jared Leto, the star of Tron: Ares.

The originalTRON movie premiered in 1982, and it became one of the most popular sci-fi films of the era and is now considered a cult classic. Its sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and received mixed reviews, but Disney still decided to continue the series, and Tron: Ares, the third movie in the series, is set to come out on October 10, 2025, as we have reported earlier. And while there is still some time before the movie’s premiere, the actors involved are discussing the work on the movie, and from what Cameron Monaghan, one of the movie’s main stars, said, we are in for an exciting sequel.
Plans for a third movie started emerging back in 2010 after Legacy, but several ideas and projects were scrapped before it was confirmed in 2022 that the movie was still happening and production was set to begin in 2023, although was originally postponed indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Cameron Monaghan, one of the stars of the upcoming Tron: Ares, has praised its practical sets and visuals, while also reminding us that Tron: Legacy is 14 years old.
Sci-fi adventure sequel Tron: Ares is currently filming, with Joachim Ronning (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directing.
Among the starry cast, which also includes Jared Leto and Gillian Anderson, you’ll also find Cameron Monaghan – an actor who looks so much like his character Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Survivor games that seeing photos of him is vaguely jarring. It’s a bit like seeing a videogame protagonist suddenly materialise in the real world – which, funnily enough, is what Tron: Ares is said to be about, with Leto playing Ares, “a fictional character who crosses over from the world of videogames to planet Earth.”

If you watched TV shows in the late 90s and early 2000s, you will remember that most popular shows did not focus on a consistent plot. Each episode told its own arc and there was no need to know the characters’ backstory.
It was a pretty smart move: a person could jump into the show at any time. However, one series changed the way the TV projects were made – Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Today, Fewer and Fewer Viewers Remember Buffy
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Joss Whedon's cult series about a high school girl who leads a double life. During the day she studies and spends time with her friends Xander and Willow, and at night she goes out into the abandoned streets of the city and the cemetery to kill demons.
Today, only hardcore fans in their 30s seem to remember Buffy, despite the show’s cult status.

The world of cinema is mostly colorful and bright and it gives you a chance to escape your reality and dive deeper into different sorts of fantasies. It’s so inspiring to see the good always winning despite all the obstacles and for example love beating it all in a romantic comedy.
However, real life is not always like that, that’s why along with the feel-good movies there are also many films that hit hard. It’s especially painful to watch movies like that because deep inside, you still have hope that everything’s going to work out for the best for the main characters. But sometimes it just doesn't…

Jonathan Majors’ Kang was supposed to be the big antagonist in the upcoming Avengers films and the climactic antagonist for the ‘Multiversal Saga’ of the MCU. However, the actor was dropped from future Marvel projects due to his legal troubles and eventual sentencing after being accused of assault.
The actor made his MCU debut with the Disney Plus series Loki, where he was introduced as He Who Remains, the protector of the Sacred Timeline. He also made an appearance in the box office disaster Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and was regarded as the best part of the film. While Zack Snyder’s films have the director’s visual and narrative stamp all over them, this is also the reason for him being a pretty polarizing figure among viewers. While his work in the DC franchise as well as in films like 300 and Watchmen have earned him a massive fan base, there are also a significant number of viewers who have been severely critical of his cinematic choices.

Michael Keaton is not new to starring in comic book films. From Batman to Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor has won over fans with his portrayal of iconic characters over the years. He is very versatile too, and hence can play both a hero and a villain very convincingly.
Keaton is one of the most sought-after stars too, and he has made several interesting cameos throughout his career. However, his appearance in Morbius left fans scratching their heads. Funnily enough, Keaton was as clueless about his role in the film as the fans.

Margot Robbie has delivered impeccable performances in the entertainment world. However, her portrayal as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (2016) remains one of her best performances, that captivated audiences’ attention. While she nailed the role at its best, one would be surprised to know that her Dceu journey was not an easy feat thanks to her co-star, Jared Leto.

Welcome back to the Grid, user. Disney is finally following up their cult franchise with a new entry, Tron: Ares. While the new entry in the series does not seemingly feature the Flynn family, at least for now, their legacy will be put into further question as a sophisticated program escapes from the game and ventures into our world. Jared Leto, who had a big swing and a miss with his last franchise attempt, Morbius, is heading up the cast for this continuation. Disney recently unveiled details of Tron: Ares‘ release at last week’s CinemaCon.
Cbr.com has reported on an on-set video taken during a night shoot on the production. The video was posted to social media and seems to show a scene that takes place in a city street with cars stalled in the middle of the road. Jared Leto is seen in full view in his character’s costume.

For many actors, using grief to their advantage on screen is a well-trod path; however, pretending to be grieving is a whole other story. Method acting has long been seen as a demanding and occasionally contentious way of producing real performances on screen. However, revelations about Aaron Eckhart’s extreme methods to get into character for his role in 2010’s Rabbit Hole have caused a few to gasp and sparked a fresh discussion about the limits of method acting.
The actor attended a support group for parents who had lost their child and even staged his own child’s death in order to prepare for his role. Well, in the past, we’ve heard stories of actors going to great lengths to immerse themselves in their roles, from drastic weight loss to being cut off from the outside world.
But Jared Leto’s tale was nothing short of a nightmare.

Tom Cruise is a global superstar with a wealth of films under his belt. The actor’s impact on Hollywood cannot be overstated, and neither can his contribution to the film industry be quantified. Unsurprisingly, Cruise has also been an inspiration to innumerable artists, and one of them happens to be Christian Bale.
Like Cruise, Bale too is an incredible actor, with an Oscar to his name. The English actor made a name for himself by undergoing extreme transformations in his roles. He has starred in several critically acclaimed films in his career, pushing the limits of his skills each time.
However, one role that stands out in Bale’s immaculate filmography is that of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. And who was the inspiration behind it? The Mission: Impossible actor, of course.

During its existence, the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) gave rise to some historic blunders. My personal favorite was when Dwayne Johnson simply refused to accept that his "Black Adam" movie wasn't very good, but the ill-fated shared universe has a plethora of greatest hits when it comes to cinematic slip-ups, from the box office disappointment that was "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" to the box office bomb of super-heroic proportions that was "The Flash."
Look, it's extremely difficult to build a shared cinematic universe. Aside from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the only action franchise that's really achieved anything of note in the last few years is the "John Wick" saga, and even that can't hope to match the historic highs of the MCU. So you can't really fault DC and Warner Bros. for failing to establish an enduring cinematic multiverse — though that hasn't stopped David Ayer from trying.

Zack Snyder’s time over at the DC Studios will never be forgotten by his fans and neither will his Dceu trilogy which includes, Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Ever since the filmmaker left the superhero universe to move onto bigger and better things, fans have been hoping that he’d one day return to direct some of their favorite superheroes at least one more time. As of now though, this seems like a far-fetched dream.
Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Out of the entire trilogy, the Knightmare sequences seem to be some of the most beloved and iconic to the fans, and rightly so. However, the scenes almost never made it to the screens as Warner Bros. executives were not very keen on keeping them in the film. Luckily, Zack Snyder had the perfect response for them which led to the scenes not getting cut.

“The People’s Joker,” a scandalous IP-on-acid coming-out comic-book psychodrama, is a movie that has all the earmarks of an underground/ midnight/guerrilla-cinema sensation. Vera Drew, who directed and co-wrote it, plays the title character, a mentally fractured aspiring stand-up comedian who bills herself as Joker the Harlequin. She wears a green wig parted down the middle, white makeup with big jagged dark blotches around the eyes, a razory red lipstick grin, along with a purple jacket and fishnets that make her, in every way possible, a transgressive presence. Onstage, when she puts an inhaler up to her mouth and draws in a breath of Smylex, the feel-happy drug prescribed to her as a child, she’ll let out a cackle of laughter so derisive it sounds like she’s going to fracture her own rib. She’s the maniacal Joker of DC legend, as well as an outlaw parody of...

A few months ago, I wrote an article listing ten movies that – despite being well known – were difficult to find (legally) on any streaming service or even on disc. Those titles ranged from Ron Howard’s Cocoon to movies like Dawn of the Dead (the original). In the comments, many of our readers chimed in with their two cents on films they’ve found difficult to find over the years, so here are a few more challenging-to-find flicks, some of which may surprise you.

The Killing Joke is considered one of comic book legend Alan Moore’s crowing achievements in superhero comics. Right alongside his classic works like The Watchmen, The Killing Joke attempts to tell the story of Batman’s most notorious nemesis, the Joker.

When Tron first appeared in 1982, it became one of the most popular sci-fi films of the era and is now considered a cult classic. A sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and received mixed reviews, but that did not stop Disney from producing yet another sequel. Tron: Ares is set to be the next installment in the series and will serve as a standalone sequel to the two previous movies. Production began in January 2024 and Disney has now confirmed the film’s official theatrical release date, which is going to happen on October 10, 2025!
Plans for a sequel started emerging back in 2010 after Legacy, but several ideas and projects were scrapped along the way and the sequel seemed to be stuck in developmental hell. In 2022, it was confirmed that the movie was still happening and production was set to begin in 2023, but was initially postponed indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Disney has seemingly shifted its release schedule around again. Now we have some updated release dates for several upcoming Disney Films, including ‘Toy Story 5,’ ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ ‘Tron: Ares,’ and the live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’ (which seems redundant at this point.)
The release dates are now as follows:
‘Tron: Ares’ will be released next year on Oct. 10, 2025. The Jared Leto-led film is currently in production.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be released on May 22, 2026.
‘Toy Story 5’ will be released on June 19, 2026.
The live-action version of ‘Moana’ will now be released on July 10, 2026, instead of June 27, 2025. This move is likely due to the hastily announced ‘Moana 2’ coming later this year.

In great news for fans of Baby Yoda, Buzz and Woody, and Disney princesses (as well as Disney shareholders), Disney announced a blockbuster slate of films set for release in 2026.
First up, on May 22, 2026, is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a feature expansion of the Emmy Award-winning “The Mandalorian” series that introduced the world to Baby Yoda. No word yet on whether star Pedro Pascal will appear as the title character as he’s done in the streaming series. Jon Favreau is aboard as director.
Next, on June 19, 2026, is “Toy Story 5.” Little is also known about that project but Disney boss Bob Iger revealed in 2023 that another installment of the Oscar-winning franchise was en route.
Finally, on July 10, 2026, Disney will release a live-action version of “Moana” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This is not to be confused with an animated “Moana” sequel that Disney has set for release later this year.
