Comic book action thrillers are so influential today, that more naturalistic suspense thrillers are giving way under the strain. Just winding up is a long series of paternal revenge & response thrillers starring Liam Neeson, who is forever striking back against the ‘evil forces’ threatening the sacred family unit. No action hero ever fights for right for its own sake anymore, it’s always because of some heightened sense of family loyalty or personal duty – a ‘me’ motive. My...

MaryAnn’s quick take…
So convoluted, confusing, and overly crammed that it’s overwhelming, and not in a pleasant way. But Ben Affleck’s autistic action hero is fascinating. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

There’s so much going on in the unlikely action drama The Accountant that I think we can be forgiven for wondering whether writer Bill Dubuque (The Judge) and director Gavin O’Connor (Jane Got a Gun, Pride and Glory) are attempting to give us a little taste of what the world must be like for its hero, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck). Wolff calls himself a high-functioning autistic, but he’s not that high-functioning: the tentative control he seems to have over the sensory overload he suffers from is a result of daily desensitization sessions, during which he subjects himself...

Certain films manage to be worth more than they are, and The Accountant might just be the sort of venture that approaches that territory. It’s a fun flick, with positives that make it worth the ride, but it’s ultimately more interesting as the “working education” of its writer and director.
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is an accountant who works for many of the most notorious people on the planet in a very specialized niche of both the criminal and accountancy worlds. As Treasury agent Ray King (J.K. Simmons) explains, criminals are not often balance sheet wizards, and if you suspect someone is cooking the books on your dirty dealings you can’t exactly head to H&R Block to have someone find out.
We get a lot of Wolff’s backstory in the film, mainly focusing on the facts that: he is somewhere on the Autism spectrum, and...

The Accountant is one hell of a badass film and is probably one of my favorite movies of the year. I've seen a lot of reviews say that the plot is preposterous, but lots of fun and great movies have preposterous plots, like John Wick for example! Why they decided to single this one out is beyond me because it's awesomely entertaining. I freakin' loved it, and if you get a chance to see it this weekend, make sure you do! Ben Affleck is pretty great in it, and it's easily one of my favorite characters he's played.
The movie opens today, but before you watch it, here's a motion comic released by DC Comics that introduces the character Christian Wolff and gives you a little background story and the mystery surrounding him. Chicago – Remember the hilarious video of Ben Affleck during the “Batman v Superman” promotions, his blank stare synched up to the song “The Sound of Silence”? Well, he’s decided to take that expression to a mainstream role, as he blankly applies that manner to “The Accountant.”
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The problem with the film is that it had no presence, it’s as blank as Ben’s interpretation of his character. This also has a narrative that has to explain a lot of points –backgrounds and circumstances and situations – mostly told through J.K. Simmons as yet another bureaucrat, and it becomes very muddled. The story is a cat-and-mouse game with no interest generated for either animal, and it dies on the vine pretty early. In addition, where “The Accountant” actually came from, and how he possesses his powers, is both disingenuous and trivializes the actual condition in such a scenario.

Ben Affleck plays an accountant with some special skills and special challenges in the mystery/action thriller The Accountant. Directed by Gavin O’Connor, what makes The Accountant different from other high-body count thrillers is the protagonist at its center, an autistic math savant. Christian Wolff (Affleck) is brilliant with numbers but has trouble with social interactions. His social difficulties look like autism spectrum, possibly the high-functioning type that used to be called Asperger’s, but his unusual upbringing by his brutal military operative father, designed to help him ward off bullies, has equipped him with skills in martial arts and weapons.

No, The Accountant doesn’t take place inside a Tropic Thunder universe where character combinations are satirically smashed together for dramatic pause. Gavin O’Connor’s white-collar thriller is super duper serious about Ben Affleck playing an assassin with lower-grade autism, down to its tiniest nuance. That, in itself, poses a brilliant message of strength for those battling similar conditions of difference – if only Bill Dubuque’s screenplay could sustain such a theme without treating mental “disabilities” like unlocking a superpower (seriously, the film is bizarrely X-Men-esque). There’s such a strange ignorance at play that causes Affleck’s autistic state to feel hollow and blank, almost where more serious sufferers are slighted by therapeutic choices and unintentional weightlessness.

As I wrote about earlier this week, Ben Affleck is a pretty huge star in Hollywood, and rightly so. He can often command the screen, and later this week he has another star vehicle to showcase just that. It’s The Accountant, a slightly high concept shoot em up that has Affleck both in hero mode as well as serious actor mode. It’s an odd mix, one that sort of works, but also sort of doesn’t. It’s worth seeing if you like silly action flicks, though it can be a bit frustrating because of the effective drama put on display as well. Through it all though, Affleck shines. The film is an action thriller centering on Christian Wolff (Affleck), a seemingly mild mannered accountant. Christian suffers from autism, though he’s high functioning and has a much different skill set from others on the spectrum. You see,...

The Accountant is one of the most anticipated upcoming movies, but it isn’t revealing a lot of details, even in the trailer. The film has finally released a large set of images, and while it isn’t really the norm, you can get quite a bit more detail from them, including a look at a lot more characters and the situations Affleck’s character finds himself in.
We’ve got the basic idea that Christian (Ben Affleck) is a math genius who has some criminal clients and that he takes on a legitimate client to help an accountant (Anna Kendrick) who has found something funny in the books of a legitimate company. We also know that things go wildly wrong because Christian starts shooting people and goes a little “Bond.”

Warner Bros. has released the full trailer for Ben Affleck's upcoming new thriller, The Accountant. The movie comes from director Gavin O'Connor, who previously directed The Warrior, and it has an incredible supporting cast that includes Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.
The full trailer gives us a better look at the story and the other characters that will drive that story forward. I really like the concept for this film, and I love the tone and vibe. On top of that, the cinematography looks outstanding. Everything that's been released for this film so far points to it being great, and I'm pretty excited about checking it out.

He speaks! After an initial trailer which featured a wordless Ben Affleck as a brilliant man with a shady role of employment, the second trailer for Gavin O’Connor‘s The Accountant shows the titular Affleck uttering his first words. Between DC roles, this could be a solid role for Affleck to keep his acting muscles flexed and a potentially solid entry for O’Connor’s occasionally rocky career.
The new trailer also demonstrates more of the film’s cool color palette and cold, calculated cinematography by Seamus McGarvey, suggesting O’Connor is going for a more objective language, as opposed to something like Warrior. See the second trailer below, for the film which also stars J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor, and Alison Wright.

We’re going to see Ben Affleck once again suited up as Batman in Suicide Squad next month, but that won’t be the last time the actor is shown kicking butt on the big screen this year. He’ll soon be seen in The Accountant, but the film will have him playing a very different type of hero.
Directed by Warrior and Jane Got A Gun helmer Gavin O’Connor, the movie features the Justice League star as a mild mannered accountant who freelances as an assassin. For further details on what to expect from The Accountant, here’s the official synopsis:

When Ben Affleck isn't dressing up as Batman and playing around in the DC universe, he's playing an autistic math genius who will kill people then do their taxes. I can't help but think that this is what Affleck's version of Bruce Wayne would be doing if he weren't Batman. The first trailer has been released for Affleck's new thriller The Accountant, and it looks like an incredibly good film. The trailer is actually really quite chilling and intense.
The movie was directed by Gavin O’Connor (Miracle, Warrior), and it also has an incredible supporting cast that includes Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow. There's a lot of great talent attached to this project, and it looks like they've made a hell of a film that I'm 100% on board with.

The Accountant First Trailer (May 2016)
Ben Affleck has put his Batsuit away for his next movie project, a thriller by the name of The Accountant.
This one comes from Warrior director Gavin O’Connor, and sees Affleck co-star with Anna Kendrick, J K Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow. It follows the story of a seemingly mild-mannered man – an accountant, as luck would have it – who has a little bit of a sideline in, er, assassinating people.

Despite being perhaps the best element of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s safe to say Ben Affleck can’t be pleased with how the superhero showdown turned out. He’ll have a bigger role on the Justice League follow-up, serving as executive producer, and in the meantime, he’s sticking with Warner Bros. for all of his currently scheduled upcoming projects. Aside from his next directorial effort Live By Night, due in 2017, this fall he’s leading The Accountant, and the first trailer has arrived.
Coming from Warrior director Gavin O’Connor, the film follows Affleck’s character as an accountant by day and an assassin by night. The first trailer, backed by Radiohead‘s “Everything in its Right Place,” has quite an effective build-up while still keeping a fair amount of mystery. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Anna Kendrick, J. K.
