“Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In,” a Hong Kong-produced action thriller, took the top spot at the mainland China box office over the latest weekend. But it was a quiet session and came ahead of a welter of new releases targeting the May Day public holiday.
The film, which is among those that have a Wednesday (May 1) official release date, earned $5.5 million (RMB38.9 million) between Friday and Sunday, according to data from consultancy firm Artisan Gateway.
The nationwide weekend total was a slender $18.7 million. That was the quietest theatrical weekend in China since the end of the country’s official anti-covid policies in December 2022.
Directed by the prolific Soi Cheang, “Twilight” stars the veteran martial arts star Sammo Hung and actor-producer Louis Koo in a tale of a youngster who stumbles his way into Kowloon’s notorious Walled City and discovers a new kind of order within its seemingly criminal chaos.

Cirie Fields made a name for herself during four appearances on Survivor.
After winning the first season of The Traitors USA, Cirie took a shot at winning Big Brother. Her experience was not a fond one.
Cirie was very open about not enjoying the 100-day season of Big Brother 25. But has it also stuck with her?
Cirie acted miserable on the Big Brother live feeds as the days ticked off the calendar. She talked to herself often and noted that she wanted people to leave her alone.
In comparison, Cirie’s seasons of Survivor were 39 days. Her stint on The Traitors was even shorter, as they filmed it in a few weeks. Big Brother was a different beast altogether.
This underscores how Cirie is the perfect person to ask about the difficulties of each show.

Andrew Garfield and Cynthia Erivo will lead Audible’s audio adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.
The Amazing Spider-Man and Wicked stars will play Winston and Julia, respectively, alongside Fleabag’s Andrew Scott as O’Brien and Inception’s Tom Hardy as Big Brother. The audio adaptation will also feature an original score written by Muse front-man Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri, which will be performed by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road studio.
Destiny Ekaragha (The End of the F***ing World) directs the Audible Original adaptation, which is described as staying “faithful” to the original text, while drawing in more of Winston and Julia’s romantic relationship. The Orwell Estate has authorized and endorsed the adaptation.
The classic novel, published in 1949, is set in an imagined dystopian future in which Winston and his colleague, Julia, are dissatisfied with their totalitarian government and look to make a change. However,...

For nine long years, Derrick Levasseur held the “Big Brother” record for lasting the most days in the house without ever being nominated for eviction. The Rhode Island police sergeant ended Season 16 on Day 97 as the ultimate winner, having never set foot on the block. Now, his record has been beaten by an unlikely houseguest from Season 25: Bowie Jane.
This Australian DJ didn’t know much about the game of “Big Brother” before being cast in the longest-ever season in the summer of 2023. However, after winning the most recent Head of Household competition on the November 2 episode, Bowie is now guaranteed to make it to the final day in the house, Day 100, without ever touching the block.
Bowie’s success is due in part to no one ever truly seeing her as a threat, in part to winning three (so far) Hoh comps, and in part to lucking into...

When we last recorded power rankings for “Big Brother 25” it was when Matt Klotz and Jag Bains were still utilizing Cameron Hardin to their advantage under the mask of a “Fugitives” alliance in the Top 10. Since then, Matt and Jag orchestrated the eviction of Cameron and stand alone as the “Minutemen,” a two-player alliance that has ruled the late-game with an iron fist. Standing ini the way of Matt and Jag are Cirie Fields, Felicia Cannon and Bowie Jane, three players all under the impression that they’re the ideal third wheel to Matt and Jag’s plans. But with the November 9 finale night looming, only one of their plans will play out through to the end.
Below, read our third and final power rankings of the season for the Top 5 as we consider how the season will finish with only two houseguests sitting in the finale chairs in front of their jury of seven.

Big Brother sent home its final pre-jury evictee on Thursday night… yet most of the episode focused on a houseguest who wasn’t even on the nomination block.

It’s crazy to think that two weeks ago when we published our first “Big Brother 25” power rankings of the season at the Top 11 we were facing a double eviction. But here we are refreshing those thoughts with 10 players still in the house and one hoping to not be the last evicted pre-jury. Since the last time we checked in, Cameron Hardin has gone from backdoor evictee to Bb Zombie to “Do or Die” winner to Head of Household for the third time. Also in that time: Jared Fields has been permanently evicted, Cory Wurtenberger and America Lopez have a target on their back where there previously wasn’t one, and Mecole Hayes is now a first-time nominee.

“This is the perfect opportunity for us to make reality ‘real’ again,” says Peter Tierney, the commissioner who has spent the past two years overseeing ITV’s rebooted Big Brother.
Speaking as ITV prepares to become the third UK network to premiere the world-beating format, Tierney says his team have listened relentlessly to audiences “telling us that they want real, authentic reality.”
“They are aware of the way in which [some of] these shows are made, the directions you can push contestants in and the hands of the producer,” he adds. “But Big Brother presents us with the perfect opportunity to make reality ‘real’ again, providing a better opportunity for an environment that is conducive to real life than many other reality shows afford you.”

We’re midway into Week 7 on “Big Brother 25,” with repeat Head of Household Jared Fields priming a possible backdoor of Cameron Hardin while using Cory Wurtenberger and America Lopez as the initial (pawn) nominees for eviction. Last week, the game was flipped on its head for the son-mother duo of Jared and Cirie Fields when America initiated a big move against them by convincing Cory to work to get the house to vote out their closest ally Izzy Gleicher.
Will the Power of Veto comp fall in favor of Jared’s backdoor plan? And if so, what will come of the fractured friendship between Cory and Jared? The chaos won’t end soon as Julie Chen Moonves let us in on this week’s schedule that culminates in a double eviction on Thursday, September 21.

Cameron’s previous turn as Big Brother‘s Head of Household was ultimately a waste, thanks to the Power of Invincibility. So, this time around, he’s making sure it counts.
After winning last week’s Hoh competition to a hilariously muted reaction from the others, Cameron has successfully planted seeds of chaos in the house, namely by nominating Izzy and Felicia — two of this season’s three puppet masters — for eviction. Since then, secrets have been spilled, Felicia has actually spilled during the topsy-turvy Power of Veto competition, and Cameron has been watching with glee while it all unfolds.

One of the more unlikely showmances this summer on “Big Brother 25” is the one between 27-year-old beauty America Lopez and 21-year-old nerd Cory Wurtenberger. They’ve been flirting for weeks in the hammock, in their beds and everywhere in between, but only recently did they share their first smoocheroo. Some time after that, America confessed to Mecole Hayes that Cory is an “awful” kisser and that he’s “just very tense.” But have no fear — she plans on being his “teacher” to help him “practice” throughout the rest of the summer.
The hilarious “BB25” scene was shown on the live feeds on Paramount Plus (watch below).

For the second week in a row, Jag Bains found himself nominated for eviction on “Big Brother,” but unlike last time, he was not able to save himself with the Veto. After Red Utley won the Veto and didn’t use its power, Cameron’s nominations were locked in and the house is now scheduled to evict one of them live on Thursday, August 31.
All week long, viewers have been making their “Big Brother 25” Week 4 predictions at Gold Derby for who they think will be sent home next. As of this writing, Jag has leading 27/25 odds to be evicted, while Blue is in second place at 12/5 odds. There’s still time to make your picks before our predictions center closes at 5:00 p.m. Pt on Thursday.

Blue Kim is not dealing well with being on the block on “Big Brother 25.” “I’m for sure pissed off,” she declared in the Diary Room at the end of Sunday’s episode after being nominated for eviction by Head of Household Cameron Hardin. “I hope I win Veto and then I hope I get off the block and then I hope that I win Hoh so I can be the one that kicks your ass back home,” she said in reference to Cameron. Blue then blew kisses as she sweetly cooed, “Bye!”
Cameron decided to nominate Blue and Jag Bains because they’re “dangerous loose ends” from the former Handful alliance whom he no longer trusted. However, should one of them be saved by the Veto on Wednesday night, he has his sights set on backdooring Izzy Gleicher. While Blue and Jag “pose an interesting threat” to his new alliance,...

“Big Brother” fans are calling for the ouster of houseguest Luke Valentine, but not for his gameplay. The calls to get him out of the house in fact come after he casually dropped the N-word in conversation.
The moment was caught not during one of the episodes that air on CBS but on the Paramount+ live feed, which allows fans to monitor the Big Brother house basically 24/7. It came on Wednesday morning, as Valentine was talking to fellow contestants.
During the conversation, he explains, “We were in the f–ing room, n—-,” but catches himself immediately. He tried to laugh it off and correct himself with “dude,” but the word still rang pretty clear. You can watch it here.
Within hours, fans online began calling for Luke’s expulsion from the house for his conduct.

If you watched the first episode of “Big Brother 25,” you learned that one of the new houseguests, Jared Fields, is related to a “Survivor” legend, Cirie Fields, who later joined the show as the 17th player. However, Cory Wurtenberger also has a connection to a former “Survivor” castaway, but that relationship wasn’t revealed to viewers. At least, not yet.
Cory’s brother is Zach Wurtenberger, who was the first person voted out of “Survivor 42.” Zach is perhaps best remembered as being the fated love interest of eventual winner Maryanne Oketch. (Remember when she told Jeff Probst that Zach was “literally picture perfect” following his elimination?) After that season aired on CBS, the two jokingly changed their social media names to “Zach Oketch” and “Maryanne Wurtenberger.”

Big Brother kicked off a new season on Wednesday, and host Julie Chen Moonves had some big twists and turns for the 16 new houseguests who moved into the Big Brother household — including a mysterious 17th houseguest that wasn’t revealed until the closing moments of the night and shook things up in a big way for both contestants and fans alike.
The show began by introducing the new houseguests — eight at a time, instead of just four, like usual — and introduced them to the very narrative-driven new Big Brother Multiverse house theme.
(The Big Brother Multiverse is kind of complicated but revolves around three previous Big Brother contestants breaking in and causing a rift in space and time that is reflected in the design of the house. Check out our exclusive house tour for a better, more in-depth explanation.)

Cannes — Burgeoning Israeli film-tv studio Sipur and cable channel Hot, behind the original versions of “In Treatment” and “Euphoria,” are introducing at MipTV “Everybody Loves…,” a new global dating reality format.
The news comes just days after France’s Mediawan Rights has pounced on international distribution of another Sipur format, “Hungry for Love,” and partners Sipur and MGM’s winning five Israeli Emmy Awards for chilling doc series “The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes.”
Tel Aviv-based Sipur has also moved into post on “Bad Boy,” a scripted series from Ron Leshem, creator of the original Israeli “Euphoria” and an exec producer on its U.S version.
All these moves mark further signs of growth at Sipur, driven by CEO Emilio Schenker. Formerly Tadmor Entertainment until its rebranding last July, it is quickly emerging as one of Israel’s fastest-growing film-tv studios, playing off unique international relationships, led by a first-look production-distribution deal with MGM,...

We are a few short months away from the premiere of Big Brother 25 on CBS. And we’re (not so patiently) awaiting the day we know who’s in the cast, what kind of twists await the future houseguests, and what outfit host Julie Chen Moonves will wear on move-in night. But while fans contemplate the ins and outs of the upcoming season, we’re taking a concrete stand on what we don’t want to see in Big Brother 25.
Julie Chen Moonves | Photo by Monty Brinton/CBS via Getty Images 1. Coaches shouldn’t return in ‘Big Brother 25’ on CBS
This might be a hot take, but we don’t want to see the coaches twist return in the upcoming Big Brother season. As fans remember, CBS introduced the coaches twist in Big Brother 14, which featured the return of four legends — Dan Gheesling, Janelle Pierzina, Britney Haynes, and Mike “Boogie” Malin.

Veteran Hong Kong martial arts director Sammo Hung first saw Michelle Yeoh in early 1984 when she arrived for a screen test with hopes of landing her very first role, a bit part in the action comedy The Owl vs. Bombo.
On Sunday night, Hung watched as Yeoh picked up an Oscar for her role as the universe-jumping housewife Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once — and he was part of the city that celebrated Yeoh’s win like she was one of their own.
“I’m very happy for her,” said Hung. “She had talent from the very beginning and we could all see that. We have never had many Chinese people standing on this [Oscars] stage. I hope this means there will be many more from now on.”

The 47th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF47) will honour Soi Cheang as this year’s Filmmaker-in-Focus.
One of Hong Kong’s most stylish and formidable directors, Cheang joins an illustrious and growing list of recent Hkiff Filmmakers-in-Focus, including Sandra Ng, Stanley Kwan, Michael Hui, Sammo Hung and Brigitte Lin.
Returning to its traditional dates after last year’s postponement, HKIFF47 will take place from 30 March to 10 April. At the centre of this year’s cinephile extravaganza is the showcase of Cheang’s 12 seminal works, the publication of a commemorative book and, in collaboration with long-term festival partner Moleskine, the release of a limited edition notebook. Cheang will also attend a Face-to-Face session to share his insights and vision with the public.
In making the announcement, Hong Kong International Film Festival Society Executive Director Albert Lee paid tribute to Cheang and said the festival was proud to recognise his indelible contribution to Hong Kong cinema.

Hong Kong has been haunted on the screen for a very long time, but starting with Sammo Hung “Encounters of a Spooky Kind” (1980) the city also found plenty of humor in it. The Hk ghost genre has developed its completely unique style: smart, quirky, bonkers and scary at the same time. Supernatural served this way is not exactly what horror genre is supposed to be about – chilling, mocking the improbable elements of scare, the things your logic tells you are ridiculous, but your instincts don’t. Ultimately, this works pretty well when it involves a harmonious balance between humor, dread, and melodrama.

Oscar Wilde famously said that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery," but he probably wasn't thinking about beating the crap out of people with bar stools when he said it. Edgar Wright, on the other hand, thought a lot about beating the crap out of people with bar stools in his 2013 sci-fi action-comedy "The World's End," with scenes that pay homage to some of the most celebrated Hong Kong filmmakers.
The acclaimed film was the third installment of Wright's "Cornetto Trilogy," a series of films starring his frequent collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, which each built upon the influences of classic genre films. "Shaun of the Dead" is a love letter to zombie movies, "Hot Fuzz" is an ode to buddy cop flicks, and "The World's End" is a kung fu comedy throwback, with a little bit of middle-aged reunion drama and alien invasion tossed in for good measure.
