The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. The Hills Have Eyes 2 (watch it Here) is a...

It was too good to be true for fans of Friday The 13th: The Game. Then again, you also knew it was coming. After the reveal of the Friday The 13th: The Game – Resurrected fan mod last week, Horror Inc. has started sending out cease and desist orders to the developers behind the modding project.
According to FridayThe13thFranchise.com, the letters were sent to the developers of the mod on their Discord channels. The team has already responded on X in regards to the orders, and will comply with the request. They acknowledge that the project is “most likely over”, but do plane to work on other projects. “We are still waiting for response from some people we have contacted, but for now we are working on removing all of Horror Inc’s owned content.”

In A Violent Nature might be Canadian writer and director Chris Nash’s feature debut, but he’s hardly an untested rookie (and it shows). His ABCs of Death 2 segment “Z is for Zygote” teases his knack for producing practical effects and what to expect by the bucket full in his subversive Sundance slasher. Nash’s experience in effects departments, like serving as On-Set Creature Effects Supervisor for Psycho Goreman, translates into a slasher experience that stands pound-for-pound with modern masterclasses of mutilation like the Terrifier series. In A Violent Nature is one of the bloodiest, most punishing, and refreshingly original slashers in some time, but its unique approach will divide horror audiences — that’s the looming risk that comes along with shoot-for-the-moon ambitions.

For the entirety of my twenties and a chunk of my thirties, I knew the inebriated pleasure of debating the most trivial subjects known to humankind via what we used to call the "bar argument." Oh sure, people still knock back beers and fiercely debate the Hegelian messaging of the "Airport" franchise, but there was a time, a glorious time, when an elbow-tipping blowhard could loudly assert as fact that "The White Shadow" was an "All in the Family" spinoff, and no one could pull a rectangular device out of their pocket to authoritatively prove they're utterly full of horse pucky. Short of pulling Norman Jewison out from behind the jukebox for a McLuhan-esque correction, this dolt could double and triple down, and all you could do was yell at them. We've lost so much.
The best bar arguments tended to revolve around song lyrics, but movie quotes ran a very close second.

Ukrainian-born, Miami-based producer, songwriter, composer, and filmmaker Rostislav Vaynshtok (Terrifier 2), better known as Slavvy, has officially signed on to score All My Friends Are Dead, the upcoming slasher film from Saw IV-3D writer and The Collector director Marcus Dunstan.
All My Friends Are Dead follows a group of close college friends who get a steal on a killer Airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. A weekend of partying quickly takes a turn for the worst as members of the group are murdered one by one. They soon discover that each one of their deaths directly corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins.
The film, which stars stars Jojo Siwa and Jade Pettyjohn, is currently in post-production.

Nearly 15 years removed from the last installment, horror fans are in the longest dry spell without a new Friday the 13th movie since the franchise debuted in 1980 — but there’s no shortage of merchandise to fill the Jason-sized void in your life.
Over a dozen companies and artists have released Friday the 13th-inspired apparel, prints, and collectibles in honor of Jason’s big day…
Fright-Rags
Fright Rags has reprinted four Friday the 13th designs on T-shirts for $30 and zip-up hoodies for $55: Part II, III, and V by Justin Osbourn and Part VI by Christopher Lovell.
They’ve also restocked enamel pins with eight of the franchise’s victims: Burt, Shelly, Mark, Kate, Julius, Jack, Hitchhiker, and Demon. Designed by Matt Ryan Tobin, they’re $13 each.

The horror genre thrives upon cautionary tales where arrogant individuals believe that they can outsmart some supernatural force for their own gain. It’s for this reason that the greed-quenching Djinn and parables where people learn to be careful what they wish for, usually in the most morbid ways possible, are popular horror tropes. Djinn are a fascinating concept, but they’ve struggled to truly make their mark in cinema between largely-forgettable films like Jinn, The Djinn, Wish Upon, and even George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing. But Djinn stories can still be fun and effective in the right context. And Robert Kurtzman’s Wishmaster is still the premier djinn horror film over 25 years later.
Wishmaster is a movie that understands the unabashed joys of a big, dumb plot where there’s a giant magical gemstone that’s the key to the Djinn’s powers because why the hell not?...

Long before every conceivable comic book character received a film adaptation in the hopes of becoming the next blockbuster, there was Superman. While box office returns diminished over the course of four movies, the Man of Steel’s big-screen success heralded a crop of other superhero movies. Producers Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan swooped in to acquire the film rights to DC Comics’ other most well-known character, Batman (and they remain executive producers on every Batman movie), along with a more obscure title, Swamp Thing.
Not unlike a common trajectory in the modern comic book movie boom – in which filmmakers who have proven themselves in the genre space are given the keys to superhero properties – Wes Craven was enlisted to write and direct 1982’s Swamp Thing despite his unfamiliarity with the source material. While he would go on to make a name for himself with A Nightmare on Elm Street next,...

Veering sharply away from the visceral horror that put him on the map, Wes Craven followed up the game-changing The Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes with the one-two punch of the silly, surreal Deadly Blessing and the comic-book adaptation Swamp Thing. An enjoyable enough romp if taken as an amiably lunk-headed action flick, Swamp Thing starts off with an effectively mounted first act that soon gives way to a lot of splashing around in the swamps, punctuated with some incongruously poetic (and oddly endearing) Beauty and the Beast-type moments, and liberally peppered with all the airboat crashes and cigar-chomping David Hess close-ups you could ever want. Add to that running tally Adrienne Barbeau doffing her wardrobe for some tastefully lensed skinny-dipping and an ultra-suave, Nietzsche-spouting turn from Louis Jourdan as villainous Dr. Anton Arcane and it all adds up to a surefire cult film in the making.

A Friday the 13th TV series called Crystal Lake is coming our way from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, Friday the 13th franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service. Unfortunately, any progress the show was making has been put on hold during the writers strike – but earlier this year, Fuller assembled a writers room that spent six weeks brainstorming ideas and breaking down the scripts that will make up the first season of the series. Two of the writers in that room were author Tananarive Due, who has written multiple novels over the last thirty years and executive produced Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror, and her husband Steven Barnes, who is also an author and has also contributed scripts to shows like Stargate Sg-1, The Outer Limits, and the ’80s version of The Twilight Zone. Yesterday, we were able to share some cool news about a Friday the 13th video game, as franchise composer Harry Manfredini says a new game is in the works. And now we have to share some news that I find to be a bit heartbreaking. Gun Interactive, the company behind the Friday the 13th: The Game that was released in 2017, has announced that their license to the Friday the 13th property will expire on December 31st, 2023.
“On that date, Friday the 13th: The Game will no longer be available for sale, both physically and digitally. The game will, however, continue to function through at least December 31st, 2024, if you already own it. At this time, we’ve made the decision to reduce the price to $4.99 for the base game and $0.99 for each piece of Dlc content. We will continue to offer the title and content at that price point...

With longtime Friday The 13th composer Harry Manfredini revealing a potential new Friday The 13th video game adaptation in development, you’re probably wondering what’s going on with IllFonic and Gun Interactive’s 2017 title Friday The 13th: The Game. We now have our answer thanks to an official Twitter post. And sadly for fans of the game, much like what happened with Friday The 13th: Killer Puzzle, licensing has reared its ugly head.
The official Twitter account for Friday The 13th: The Game has announced that the license for the title will expire on December 31, 2023. This means that the game will no longer be available for sale either digitally or physically after that date.
If you do own the game, it will still continue to function “through at least December 31, 2024”. The team has made the decision to reduce the price of the base game to $4.99 Usd, with each of...

The copyright lawsuit between original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller brought a stop to any further content being added to the Friday the 13th video game that came from IllFonic and Gun Media and was released in 2017 – which is a shame, because I love that game and have spent hundreds of hours playing it. To me, that was the perfect video game to go with the Friday the 13th franchise. But now that the copyright lawsuit has come to an end, franchise composer Harry Manfredini has revealed that a new video game is in development!
William Lockwood of Rely on Horror recently crossed paths with Manfredini at a Crystal Lake Reunion event at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown, New Jersey, the filming location for the original Friday the 13th, and Manfredini “revealed that he will be working on a new, as yet unannounced Friday the 13th...

With the rights to the Friday the 13th franchise finally starting to clear up and a new TV series headed to Peacock next year, you’re probably wondering where that leaves any future video game adaptations of the franchise. Well, according to longtime series composer Harry Manfredini, there’s apparently something new in the works as we speak.
RelyOnHorror‘s William Lockwood recently attended Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco’s Crystal Lake Reunion event, where he met up with Manfredini to talk about his experiences composing the scores for the Friday the 13th series, as well as the 2017 game by IllFonic and Gun Interactive.
According to Manfredini, he’ll be working on the music for a new, as yet unannounced Friday the 13th game!

Friday the 13th (watch it Here) heroine Adrienne King, whose character Alice Hardy didn’t last very long into Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch that one Here), is going to have a recurring role on the show, and last week she posted that she recently had a meeting with Fuller about what he and the writing team (including Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson) are cooking up. Adrienne King played final girl Alice Hardy in the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it Here), but her character didn’t make it very far into Friday the 13th Part 2 (watch that one Here) before being dispatched with an icepick. As most diehard fans know, the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, an active Boy Scouts camp in Hardwick, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the campgrounds are off limits to the public, meaning you can’t actually visit the filming locations outside of rare special events that the camp offers. And that’s where Crystal Lake Tours comes into play.
For the last few years, Friday the 13th fans have been offered the opportunity to tour the real-life Crystal Lake, and a special event this June will take that experience to the next level.

Everyone remembers the sensation of fear coursing through their veins the first time they ever heard the ominous whispering of "Ki ki ki, ma ma ma" in "Friday the 13th." The terrifying slasher from Victor Miller and Sean S. Cunningham spawned a massively popular franchise and inspired countless rip-offs, but few films can hold a candle to the unbridled terror found within the trees and cabins of Camp Crystal Lake. Now, horror maven Bryan Fuller is taking us back to camp with the upcoming A24 prequel series, "Crystal Lake."
The "Friday the 13th" franchise is comprised of 12 films, three seasons of a television series, novels, comic books, video games, and plenty of tie-in merchandise. While prequel stories have been told in the novels and comics, "Crystal Lake" will be the first time we see the story of what came before Jason Voorhees' untimely death during summer camp on screen — fully fleshed out.

[This October is "Gialloween" on Daily Dead, as we celebrate the Halloween season by diving into the macabre mysteries, creepy kills, and eccentric characters found in some of our favorite giallo films! Keep checking back on Daily Dead this month for more retrospectives on classic, cult, and altogether unforgettable gialli, and visit our online hub to catch up on all of our Gialloween special features!]
If there's one immediate connection one can establish between the Italian giallo and the traditional American slasher, it's that both have been on the end of pointedly barbed criticism. Popularity, of course, has never been an issue, but cultural gatekeepers have had their knives out for the slasher from day one, while the giallo has often been decried as nothing but violent misogynism told through incoherent plots. Even the original Mondadori novels from which the genre takes its name were denounced by Mussolini's fascist government—you couldn't ask for a better recommendation. But the other connection? Music.
In contemporary times and the advent of the DVD and more advanced Blu-ray, audiences have had access to the giallo like never before, meaning they can not only see these pictures almost for the first time, but also hear them, both of which have contributed to a reassessment of the giallo as art.

This big, expensive and well-produced action-suspense Sci-fi epic mostly delivers on its promise to be Aliens at the bottom of the sea. At heart it’s a 1950s pulse-pounder with a bigger monster, a zillion times the budget and a script that does everything but make us care. We appreciate the likable characters but it’s too easy to predict who will ‘get it’ next. The realism factor is not bad at all, although the undersea explorer video training sessions should have given ‘how not to crack up under stress’ more emphasis. And can’t anybody properly mind those pesky nuclear bombs?

Happy Friday the 13th, Campers! It’s time to talk about the high water mark of the Friday the 13th saga, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the action-packed fourth entry that was decidedly not the final chapter of this twelve-part (so far) series. Reader beware: this review is not devoid of spoilers, though this writer tries to maintain a few surprises for the uninitiated.
After Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) took terror into the third dimension, Final Chapter was able to capitalize on the best elements of its predecessors while smoothing out some of their storytelling hiccups. Final Chapter ports over the basic setup of Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) and Part III: Tormented former New Jersey summer camp attendee Jason Voorhees (Ted White this time around), wreaks belated vengeance on the same camp’s next generation of counselors. In the original Friday the 13th (1980), a surprising different...
