Local broadcast stations from across the country have joined forces to create an advocacy group that will press the Federal Communications Commission and lawmakers over what it calls the need to modernize regulations to enable them to stream their content.
“The Coalition for Local News,” which is backed ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS television affiliate associations and represents more than 600 local TV stations across the country, is arguing that access to streaming will “protect the future of local news in America.”
“As the most trusted source of news for Americans, local news broadcasts provide timely coverage of important issues and events, emergency weather service, and access to lifesaving information,” the group said in a statement. “The future of local broadcast news is threatened by regulations that need to be modernized and government inaction in exercising existing authority to protect the ability of local news outlets to compete. “

Benzino is no stranger to drama but this is on an entirely different level. The Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star (real name Raymond Scott) was shot in the shoulder by his nephew, Gai Scott, during a funeral procession for the reality star's mom on Saturday. The 36-year-old family member pleaded not guilty in Plymouth District Court to armed assault with intent to murder earlier today, adding that he acted out of self-defense. He was ordered held without bail pending a hearing Wednesday to determine whether he's a danger to society, according to reports. Meanwhile, the rapper has spoken out about the situation for the first time since it happened. "My mother was good, my mother...

If you grew up watching Warner Bros. cartoons, you know the music of Raymond Scott, even if his name isn’t familiar. He was an innovative musician and composer whose propulsive, syncopated piece “Powerhouse” was adopted by Warner’s music director Carl Stalling as a recurring theme in his Looney Tunes scores. Other Scott melodies made their way into my consciousness because of their repeated exposure in these cartoons. Although he worked in the mainstream of show business, especially during his run as bandleader on the popular TV show Your Hit Parade in the 1950s, Scott was virtually forgotten until such musicologists as Irwin Chusid and Hal Willner started doing...

A bonafide musical genius, Raymond Scott was something of an overnight success with his quintet back in the ’40s. And while many out there might not recognize the name today, if you’ve ever watched any of the classic Warner Bros Looney Tunes cartoons you know the music: jazzy, swinging and slightly off-kilter.
Scott also pioneered some of the earliest electronic music — not just composing it, but actually inventing and building the gadgets to do it. But despite his brilliant trailblazing and sizeable body of work, Scott spent the later years of his life poor and in relative obscurity. In the past few decades, however, his music has been re-discovered, praised, covered, and sampled by artists including the Kronos Quartet, Gorillaz, They Might Be Giants, and Soul Coughing just to name a few.

A British antiques dealer, Raymond Scott, began an eight-year jail sentence today for illegally transporting and damaging a folio of Shakespeare’s plays that dated back to 1623, of which fewer than 250 copies remain. According to The Guardian, Scott “was cleared of the actual theft but convicted of handling stolen goods and smuggling the 387-year-old book to the Us.” Two years ago, he brought the book, which he claimed he picked up in Cuba, to the Folger Shakespeare Library, in Washington, D.C. Despite Scott’s attempts to disguise the folio—allegedly by removing its pages—scholars of the Bard soon identified the text as one that was illicitly lifted from the Durham Cathedral library in 1998.

The troubles of Jonah Hex start with his involvement with a confederate troop led by the grim Quentin Turnbull during the United States Civil War. Jonah balks at Turnbull's brutal methods and abandons the troop in such a way that it leads to the death of Turnbull's son. Turnbull gets revenge by burning Jonah's family alive and horribly maiming Jonah before leaving him tied up and left for dead. Jonah is lucky, however, and is picked up by some local Indians, who nurse him back from Death's door, and thus give him an opportunity to set out for revenge against the savagery of Quentin Turnbull.
The above may sound like the first act - it's not. This is all laid out in Jonah Hex in about two minutes as an introduction,...

Hip-hop magazine The Source has been ordered to pay Eminem's legal fees for violating a federal court order not to publish full versions of the rapper's racially- charged lyrics. The Source published the lyrics of an Eminem song on its website in January, violating a temporary restraining order issued by US District Judge Gerard Lynch in December. In a pair of rulings made public on Wednesday in the copyright dispute between the magazine and the rapper - real name Marshall Mathers - Lynch ordered The Source to pay legal fees to Shady Records Inc, Eminem's label. The judge compared Eminem to Benny Goodman and Elvis Presley who also found success in musical genres created by black artists. But he said the First Amendment protects the rapper's "musical commentaries on life". The judge wrote, "It is for fans of hip-hop, and not for this court, to decide what if anything this episode means for their opinions of Mathers as a man and as an artist." In December, the judge allowed the magazine to publish limited excerpts from the lyrics and to distribute CDs containing small clips of the songs. The dispute concerns two recordings made by Eminem as a teenager. They include lyrics such as, "Black girls are dumb, and white girls are good chicks." The Source's co-owners, David Mays and Raymond Scott, have publicized the records, accusing Eminem of racism. The magazine also published a poster of Scott holding Eminem's severed head. Eminem, now 31, has said the recording was "foolishness" that he made as a teenager out of anger and frustration after breaking up with a black girlfriend. In a companion ruling, the judge dismissed a countersuit filed by The Source against Shady Records and Eminem himself, in which the magazine claimed it held the rights to the songs. But he denied a request by Shady Records to fine the magazine thousands of dollars because the magazine quickly removed the lyrics in January when lawyers complained. Michael S Elkin, a lawyer for The Source, defends, "The Source had every right to publish the material it did release to inform the public about who Eminem is."...
