As you are telling us this is absolutely, positively not a show about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and Scientology, “could you legally tell us if it were?” a TV critic asked The Arrangement executive producer Jonathan Abrams, kicking off E!’s Q&A for its upcoming scripted series. The 10-part drama follows aspiring actress Megan Morrison (Christine Evangelista), who lands a Cinderella-esque date with A-list movie star Kyle West (Josh Henderson), after which she is offered a…...

Years from now, our children and grandchildren will want to know about the early 21st century. Of its great moments. Nay, its greatest moment. They’ll gather in a circle, and ask, “Pop-pop? Will you tell us of Dennis Rodman‘s journeys to North Korea?” And we will show them Diplomats. One of real life’s great untapped comedy premises has finally been tapped. As per The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has bought the rights to Diplomats, a comedy pitch based off Earth’s premiere former pro baller/ruthless dictator bromance. Fox has tasked Ride Along director Tim Story with the project, with Jonathan Abrams on script duties and The Heat producer Peter Chernin producing. THR describes the film as a two-hander (that is, a film focusing around two co-leads), so it makes perfect sense that Fox would pass this to the guy who just made $100M off a buddy comedy. Plus...

Titled Diplomats, the movie will be directed by Tim Story, who previously helmed Ride Along, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Barbershop. According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Jonathan Abrams has based the movie on the many antics Rodman carried out while in the country.

Tim Story will direct a film about Dennis Rodman's relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
The Ride Along director has signed on for 20th Century Fox's comedy Diplomats, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will centre around the retired NBA sportsman's "hoops diplomacy" mission to the secretive country.
He visited North Korea last year, befriending Kim Jong-un, and returned in January to organise a basketball game in Pyongyang and sing 'Happy Birthday' to the despot.
Peter Chernin (The Heat) will produce through Chernin Entertainment, with Jonathan Abrams writing the script.
Ride Along was a hit when it arrived in the Us earlier this month. A sequel to the action comedy will enter production in the summer.

What do a heartless North Korean dictator and a troubled former NBA star have it common? Probably something really, really sad, but 20th Century Fox is prepared to mine whatever it is for comedy gold with Diplomats, a comedy pitch based on Rodman's newfound friendship with Kim Jong-un. Ride Along director Tim Story is set to direct, Jonathan Abrams is set to write, and both Rodman and Kim are set to be pretty peeved at how they come off in the movie.

Could the world's strangest "diplomatic mission" be fodder for one of Hollywood's hottest comedic directors? 20th Century Fox has bought the comedy pitch Diplomats, inspired by Dennis Rodman's so-called "hoops diplomacy" mission to North Korea, as a directing vehicle for Ride Along's Tim Story (pictured below). As Mr. Spock once put it, only Nixon could go to China. But it took erstwhile basketball stalwart and one-time wannabe movie star Dennis Rodman to go to North Korea, and his weird overtures to despot Kim Jong-un are now the subject of a planned comedy at Fox called Diplomats. And Ride Along director Tim Story is the man the studio wants to make it happen.Story, of course, is riding high at the moment thanks to the smash success of the Ice Cube/Kevin Hart mismatched buddy cop comedy. He’s in the middle of juggling the final work on Think Like A Man Too before he segues into the planned Ride Along sequel.Fox has Jonathan Abrams writing Diplomats as a two-hander comedy based on Rodman’s visits to North Korea last year and this past January, where he organized a basketball game, schmoozed with the leader and...

Writers David Diamond and David Weissman (The Family Man) have sold dual-reality drama The Double Life Of Emily Reed to ABC through ABC Studios and studio-based Temple Hill. Emily Reed is a 35-year-old divorcee from New Jersey with two kids who’s at a tipping point in her life when she makes the life-changing decision to move herself and her kids in with her mom. Just when she gives up on all her dreams, Emily magically wakes up the next morning in a gorgeous Soho loft lying next to an even more gorgeous naked man. And thus begins the double life of Emily Reed, where she lives each day twice — once as a divorced mother of two in suburban New Jersey, and again as a successful independent New York business woman. The premise is reminiscent of the parallel universe movie Sliding Doors and the NBC series Awake. Diamond and Weissman...

Espn has made an exception to its Twitter policy for the Trayvon Martin case, permitting employees to wear hoodies in their online avatars (the picture by your name) after initially warning them not to take a political stance. Martin, a 17-year old teenager from Sanford, Fla., was gunned down by George Zimmerman in late February, sparking a national controversy and making the hoodie, which Martin was wearing at the time, a national symbol. A few Espn employees, such as NFL reporter and senior writer Michael Smith and Grantland’s Jonathan Abrams, changed their...

Why The Hell Are So Many Movie Geeks And Journalists Jizzing Their Pants Over 'Super 8'?I became a fan of J.J. Abrams back in 1991, when the now defunct Premiere Magazine did a piece on him regarding his screenplays for Regarding Henry and Forever Young. Back then he was Jonathan Abrams and he seemed like a promising and ambitious young writer. Some years later he would make a name for himself with hit television series such as Felicity, Alias and of course, Lost (boy this guy likes one word titles). When Tom Cruise took a chance on Abrams and gave him the directing gig for M:i-iii, probably the best and first true Mission: Impossible film in the series, it proved the former screenwriter could helm a picture, but he didn't break any new ground either. The same could be said for the latest re-imagining/re-boot for Star Trek...

Our own Dan Carlson predicted it over on Twitter on Friday, writing, "Monday's box-office hed on every movie news site: "Moviegoers 'Liked' The Social Network to the tune of [amount]."
