For as much as autumn in Hollywood is film festival season (and usually the Emmys, as well), it’s also a time typically jam-packed with fundraising events, from the A-list Academy Museum and Lacma galas to charity dinners toasting celebrity honorees. But like almost everything else in the industry, many such events have been put into question by the actors and writers strikes — SAG-AFTRA in particular has noted that actors cannot do charity gala red carpets if there are any studio/streamer logos on the step-and-repeats, and studios are often sponsors.
A handful of charity events — including the HollyRod DesignCare Gala and Project Angel Food groundbreaking ceremony — have successfully happened with big names in attendance since the actors strike began July 14, and the Academy Museum gala (set for Oct. 14, with honorees Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and Sofia Coppola) and Hollywood-loved Baby2Baby gala (set for Nov. 11) are...

Oceana celebrated its fifth annual Rock Under the Stars event Saturday night, highlighting ocean conservation with support from Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Mary Steenburgen, Sam Waterston and headlining performer Gladys Knight.
The event, held at the Los Angeles home of Oceana board president Keith Addis and wife Keri Selig, had a particularly urgent message when tied with climate change, especially via this summer’s extreme heat and the Maui wildfires that have recently ravaged the island.
“We do what we do because things are going to be getting worse and worse,” Danson, an Oceana board member, told The Hollywood Reporter. “One of the reasons we keep doing what we’re doing is with climate change, the waters are heating, the fish are swimming north, corals are dying, so we feel an urgency to make sure we manage the fisheries that are so stressed out. For Oceana, its 16th annual SeaChange Summer Party, taking place Saturday, July 22, represents a full circle moment.
The ocean-conservation nonprofit is set to celebrate Morgan Freeman as its guest of honor at the fundraiser, which takes place at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club in Dana Point, California. It was just six years ago that Freeman joined Oceana on Capitol Hill to urge action on a bill to ban the buying and selling of shark fins.
Cut to December 2022: Congress passed the legislation, and Joe Biden signed it, a major move toward protecting sharks, who are hunted relentlessly for their fins, which are the chief ingredient in shark-fin soup.

Exclusive: HBO Films is developing Gorbachev, a movie about former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev from Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone. Gorbachev serves as a consultant on the project, which captures the dissolution of the Ussr through his eyes. Gorbachev was the first and last President of the Soviet Union, serving from 1988 until the union’s dissolution in 1991. He ushered democracy into the Soviet block by introducing glasnost and perestroika and helped end the Cold War. The movie, written by former Hell On Wheels showrunner John Shiban and executive produced by DiCaprio, Jennifer Killoran, Hanks, Goetzman and Industry Entertainment’s Keith Addis, stems from DiCaprio’s relationship with Gorbachev. The two met when the Russian Nobel Peace Prize winner appeared in DiCaprio’s environmental movie The 11th Hour. Gorbachev later presented the actor with an environmental award at the Cinema for Peace Gala in Berlin.

HollywoodNews.com: Jackson Browne, on tour, stopped at the Oceana event in Watermill on Saturday night and played a full acoustic set on guitar and keyboards, by himself. The songs included “Running on Empty,” “The Pretender,” “Before the Deluge,” and “Rock Me On the Water.” At the end, he said he no longer cared what people thought about the fact that he’d written the Eagles’ most famous song, “Take It Easy,” and played it.
Oceana is the brainchild of Lois Robbins and Susan Rockefeller, with Keith Addis, designed to raise money for ocean conservancy. Could anything be more timely? Caroline Hirsch, of Caroline’s Comedy Club., is also very involved, as are Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. When Industry Entertainment partner Keith Addis recently went looking to add a talent manager to his company's roster, he didn't exactly need to hang a Help Wanted sign.
Industry, which counts as clients some of Hollywood's top writers, directors and actors, has been flush with employment inquiries lately, especially since the merger of Wma and Endeavor resulted in the layoffs of a host of top talent agents. Addis ended up hiring former Wma motion picture literary agent Sarah Botfeld, but not before she made a clean break from her former agency.
"We've been specific with her about what she can and cannot say to those clients," Addis says. "What she can say is: 'This is what I'm going to do. I'm excited about the people I'm working with, and if I can ever be of service to you, you know where to find me.' "
