Fitness has become a major issue of concern in cricket at present. A cricketer looks far leaner, fitter, more agile and athletic than ever before.
However, frequent breakdowns seem to be the norm of a cricketer’s life today, even though, they now travel and stay in comfort and have a staff of professionals at their beck and call to look after them.
A line from the famous poem “Little Man Cricketer” written by Frank Jones comes to mind, “Cricket is a game for a real live man, keep fit little man keep fit”. The poem goes on to talk of various aspects of the game, from dropping a catch to winning or losing or getting out on the very first ball and through it all it says, “Just smile”.
Unfortunately, “just smile” is exactly what the fans and followers of cricket are putting up with as regards players’ fitness.

Women have been playing cricket since 1745. Unfortunately, the gentlemen of the game never gave women's cricket prominence and importance, and so it remained a village entertainment. In the late 19th and early 20th century in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, there emerged a movement to establish women's cricket.
In 1926, a women's cricket association was founded. It was only in 1958 that the International Women's Cricket Council was formed to coordinate cricket around the world.
In India, the efforts of just one man who selflessly pioneered the formation of the Women's Cricket Association of India in 1973 has now borne fruit because of his vision and belief. Mahendra Kumar Sharma, a young cricket enthusiast from Lucknow, finally put women's cricket on the Indian map. He conducted the first ever national tournament amongst only three teams -- Maharashtra, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh -- in Pune.

SandalwoodSon of star couple Ambareesh and Sumalatha, Abhishek’s first film will be directed by ace director Chetan Kumar.Digital NativeDigital NativeStar couple Ambareesh and Sumalatha’s son Abhishek is all set to follow the footsteps of his parents and is getting ready to make his acting debut in the Kannada film industry. His first film will be directed by ace director Chetan Kumar and the pre-production work is happening right now. According to reports doing the rounds in tinsel town, the filmmakers are planning to title the film Amar. Ambareesh’s real name is Amarnath; in fact, he acted in a 1989 Kannada movie called Hongkongnalli Agent Amar. However, the final call on the title is yet to be taken and only an official announcement can confirm it. The other titles under consideration are Jalila, Nagarahavu and Tirugubaana, and interestingly all of these are either the titles of Abhishek’s dad’s films or resemble them. Chetan Kumar, who has hits such as Bahaddur and Bharjari to his credit, is currently working on the screenplay of the film. He is expected to wrap it up soon so that the shooting can begin in March as planned. The film is being bankrolled by Ambareesh’s best friend Sandesh Nagaraj, under the banner Sandesh Productions, and will be out in theatres later this year. Chetan Kumar’s Bahaddur, which released in 2014, was a big hit that had a 100-day run at the box office. The film starred Dhruva Sarja and Radhika Pandit in the lead roles. His next film, Bharjari, which released last year, was a romantic film that again had Dhruva Sarja as the hero with Rachita Ram and Haripriya playing the female leads. It may be mentioned here that director Pavan Wadeyar was also in fray to direct Abhishek’s debut venture, but the offer eventually went to Chetan Kumar. So now, Pavan will be moving over to direct Puneeth Rajkumar’s next, which will start rolling from next month onwards. (Content provided by Digital Native)...
