“Directors Factory Philippines,” an omnibus film project initiated by the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, has completed production in the historic city of Dapitan.
Operating since 2013, when it kicked off in Taiwan, the Directors’ Factory works with a new partner country each year to mentor eight budding filmmakers who are preparing ambitious first or second feature projects that they will make in pairs. The Philippines was selected in November.
The four resulting co-written and co-directed short films will be screened as part of the Directors’ Fortnight (aka Quinzaine des Cineastes) in May.
Dapitan, a city in The Philippines’ Zamboanga Peninsula, known for its many shrines and as the place of exile of Philippines’ national hero, Jose Rizal. These days it is a hub for domestic and international tourism.

Xyz Films, the U.S.-based sales agency specializing in genre films, has picked up international rights to Bradley Liew’s elevated horror movie “Motel Acacia.” Xyz will open it up to foreign distributors at this week’s American Film Marketin Santa Monica.
The film is set to start principal photography at the end of November in Philippines and Slovenia. It is targeting a 2019 release.

The film is set for a fall 2013 theatrical release. Written by Matti and Michiko Yamamoto, On The Job was inspired by a real-life corruption scandal involving the temporary release of inmates so they could work as contract killers for crooked politicians. It stars many of the Philippines’ mainstream actors including Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson, Rayver Cruz, Shaina Magdayao, Empress Schuck, alongside vets such as Joel Torre, Angel Aquino, Vivian Velez, Joey Marquez, Leo Martinez, Michael de Mesa, Al Tantay and Niño Muhlach. “On The Job reiterates that it is an exciting time for Filipino cinema,” said Doris Pfardrescher, President of Well Go USA Entertainment. #5. Century of Birthing Director: Lav Diaz Cast: Angel Aquino, Joel Torre, Perry Dizon, Hazel Orencio, Angeli Bayani Distributor: Rights Available Buzz: Hearts skipped beats when the title was revealed for this newest Lav Diaz work. 'Oh lord, he's finally done made a hundred year-long movie'. The guy known for the longest average film-length of any active filmmaker may have actually lowered said average with this relatively modest six hour-long film, but it's awfully dismissive to simply write him off as a high-brow spectacle. It's an awfully exorbitant serving, but boy do you crave it every day thereafter. The Gist: A filmmaker battles with film festival programmers, his girlfriend, and the media in order to retain his un-doctored vision. Coming from a filmmaker...
