There has been talk, on and off over the years, of producing a Doctor Who movie, what with the character being ridiculously popular in the U.S. as well as the U.K. these days. While that doesn’t look to be happening anytime soon, that doesn’t mean that Doctor Who related films are off the table, and the tin dog is ready for his closeup. K-9 is getting his own movie. Announced on the official K-9 Facebook Page (which has over 5,000 followers, because I know you were curious), the film will be titled Timequake and currently has an unspecified 2017 release date. Bob Baker, the original creator of the K-9 character, who first appeared in the serial The Invisible Enemy in 1977, is writing the script. The page also makes reference to Omega, who will apparently be the main villain. Baker also created Omega, which makes sense ...

The Doctor’s robotic canine companion is getting a cinematic outing, dubbed K9: Timequake...
There’s always talk of more spin-offs or cinematic releases for Doctor Who, but here’s one we weren’t expecting – K9 is getting his own movie. According to K9’s Facebook page, he’ll reach cinema screens in 2017 with a film called K9: Timequake.
The Doctor’s robotic canine companion first appeared in 1977 serial The Invisible Enemy. He made his Nu-Who return alongside Elisabeth Sladen’s Sarah Jane Smith in 2006’s School Reunion before spinning out with her into The Sarah Jane Adventures.
After that, K9 spun out once more into an Australian children’s show called K9. For legal reasons, that show couldn’t reference The Doctor or other Doctor Who characters. The film, however, will feature the classic Who baddie Omega. It’s unclear if the film will...

Puns, movie references and nods to Aardman’s past abound in Wallace & Gromit: A Matter Of Loaf And Death…
Animator Nick Park’s fifth Wallace and Gromit film, A Matter Of Loaf And Death (named for the Powell & Pressburger 1946 fantasy romance A Matter Of Life And Death, the first of many such baking-related puns) became the most-watched television programme in the UK in 2008, attracting a Christmas day average audience of 14.4 million viewers. It saw 62 West Wallaby Street, Wigan, transformed into a granary, making Wallace the target of a “cereal killer” intent on ridding the world of bakers. Gromit, as ever, came to the rescue.

Cinema Retro's Mark Mawston recently caught up with the legendary Ian Ogilvy to discuss projects past and present.
Mark Mawston: Ian, your film career began in the mid 60’s with The She Beast, directed by Michael Reeves. You had a great relationship with him. How did that come about?
Ian Ogilvy: Well, when we were 15 years old we made a couple of amateur movies together after we were introduced by a mutual friend and we became great friends. I used to stay at his mother’s house with him in Norfolk and over two years we made these two little amateur movies. This week we received an email from a filmmaker about his crowdfunding campaign for a feature called The Delicate Art of Puppetry. It’s a high school movie focused on a nerdy kid who is a fledgling puppeteer, and I guess his two hand puppets are sentient and take control of the boy’s life. Yes, once again the puppets are evil, not unlike such cult-classic horror flicks as Magic and the Puppet Master series. That isn’t to say The Delicate Art of Puppetry is a bad idea — in fact, the comedic project shows promise for a low-budget debut — but it got me wondering if a movie could be made featuring puppet characters who are simply characters, not necessarily villains or purposefully bad or edgy, without that movie being a Jim Henson Company production or something involving the late Jim Henson‘s creations. In other words, is there a Muppet monopoly? It...

The legendary puppeteer Bob Baker has died at the age of 90.
Baker's puppets appeared in many Hollywood classics, including Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind and the 1954 version of A Star Is Born.
He owned the Bob Baker Marionette Theater - one of the world's oldest children's theater companies - in his hometown of Los Angeles. It launched in 1963 and was named a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument in 2009.
Baker, who apparently had an archive of more than 3,000 puppets, loved puppetry from the age of 5 when he saw a puppet show at a Downtown La department store.
He worked as an adviser to Disney and other studios, and was also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Television Academy.
In the late puppeteer's memory, donations can be made to preserve Bob Baker's legacy and purchase the building that houses the theatre.

Renowned Swiss artist and set designer H.R. Giger, best known for his incredible work on Ridley Scott's Alien, has passed away at the age of 74. Oscar-winning filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul (Searching For Sugar Man) has shockingly been found dead in his home at the age of 36. We've been big fans of Critics Round Up, an alternative aggregator for movie reviews, so we were pretty choked to hear it was shutting down...But now it appears, in Lazarus-fashion, the site will be sticking around. Above: Film Comment has made available (for 99 cents!) a digital anthology that "collects 35 years of analysis of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's films and profiles of his closest collaborators." This coincides with the "Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist" retrospective at the Film Society of Lincoln Center starting May 16th. If you're lucky enough to attend, you may want to grab one of these. As bizarre auditions slogged on, "America's Got Talent" started to sound like a misnomer rather than the NBC summer hit that returns for its eighth season Tuesday, June 4.
The judges -- original Howie Mandel, crowd favorite Howard Stern, and newcomers Mel B and Heidi Klum -- are far kinder to the rejected contestants than the audience is.
After auditions in New Orleans and San Antonio, and before Los Angeles and Chicago, hopefuls queue up at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom, which looks spiffier on camera. In person, the show has even more of a Coliseum feel to it. Stern strides through the adoring, amped-up crowd and receives more cheers than any of the performers.

If you said, Robert Baker, then you guessed correctly. He revealed the info in a recent interview with PopSugar.com (via generalsjoes) at the 6:25 mark in the video. Rick was a friend of Jon Chu in college and was asked to lend his voice for Cobra Commander for a temp track. The studio liked his effort so much that they asked him to be the official voice of Cobra Commander, and the rest is history as they say. Jon Chu has just tweeted me that Luke Bracey is the actor that will be playing Cobra Commander behind the mask. So chew on that. In this sequel, the G.I. Of course we finally got good at Sundance just as our trip was ending. Yesterday found us at last making it to the free breakfast at our hotel (dry French toast, delicious, goopy oatmeal) and then interviewing Roy Abramsohn about his role in the Disneyland-set “Escape From Tomorrow” from our hotel room, before leaping onto a shuttle to meet Robert Baker at the Filmmakers Lodge on Main Street. While waiting for him, we ran into June Diane Raphael again, who reminded us to hit record for the interview. After we left Baker, we took another shuttle to a screening of “C.O.G.,” finally proving to ourselves that we can get around the festival without secretly following a large group of people and hoping they’re all going to the same place we need to be at. The rest of the day was consumed with meeting up with Josh Pais and Jonathan Groff...

Justified, Season Four, Episode Two: “Where’s Waldo?”
Written by Dave Andron
Directed by Bill Johnson
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on FX
If you were concerned that Justified‘s third season may have suffered from a character glut, now might be a good time to check out entirely. Boyd’s new/old pal Colt isn’t going anywhere, and his newfound nemesis Preacher Billy is just getting started. While Patton Oswalt’s bumbling Constable Bob doesn’t make an appearance this week, we do get an entire clan of degenerate hicks (headed up by the one and only Beth Grant), a brief appearance from Sheriff Jim Beaver, Preacher Billy’s likely-scheming sister (Lindsay Pulsipher), a resurgent (and de-stached!) Wynn Duffy, and, oh yes, Raylan’s bartender girlfriend Lindsey’s tough-as-nails husband Randall (Robert Baker). Things are getting downright crowded.
And that’s without the Marshals. “Where’s Waldo” reintroduces Art,...

Our first news on Toy’s House came from none other than Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman — funny how these things pan out sometimes — only, the news wasn’t all that detailed in the first place. Now, Variety have filled us in by reporting that Alison Brie, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Megan Mullally, and Erin Moriarty (The Watch) will be among the film’s adult leads, while Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias have been assigned to play the kids at its center. Chris Galletta has written the film, on which Jordan Vogt-Roberts will make his debut.
The former’s screenplay aims right for the nostalgia bone, what with it centering on “three unhappy teenagers who flee to the wilderness where they build a makeshift house and live off the land as masters of their own destiny.” In that group is Joe Toy (Robinson), a “sharp-witted” kid with a...

James Woods is definitely in a lot of bad things — it might be for the best he’s slowed down these past few years — but the guy’s never actually bad; Jobs might continue that trend on both ends. Variety reports that he, John Getz (The Social Network, Zodiac), the previously-pictured Ron Eldard (Super 8), and Lesley Ann Warren (Mission: Impossible) are on board the Ashton Kutcher-starring Steve Jobs biopic.
Woods is set to appear as Jack Dudman, Dean of Students when Jobs attended Reed College; Getz will play his father, Paul; Eldard is expected to portray Rod Holt, a designer for Apple; and Warren is Clara Jobs, his adoptive mother. No matter how big or small some of these parts truly prove to be, they’ve got a strong supporting cast — Josh Gad, Ahna O’Reilly, Matthew Modine, Lukas Haas, and Dermot Mulroney — by their side. After we see Chris Pine finally reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek 2, it looks like the actor will be taking a step away from big budget filmmaking and into the Diy zone. He's co-written and will star in a movie called Mantivities, a comedy about a bunch of guys in their early thirties who are basically overgrown children, and how they all must come together when it's time for one of them to truly grow up.
Deadline has the story, and they report that Pine wrote the film with his friends Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau. Michael Patrick Jann will be sitting in the director's chair on this one, and if you're not familiar with that name, don't worry - you're not alone. But we can put our doubts to rest when we take a look at his filmography,...

Even while actor Chris Pine floats around space thanks to the production of helmer J.J. Abrams' “Star Trek 2,” it would look as if he’s lining up his next projects once he returns from the Enterprise deck. One option could be that he takes the role of the Tom Clancy-created character Jack Ryan for another spin at Paramount, which we’re not really sure we want to see, but it seems he could take an altogether more promising route that offers him work both in front of, and for the first time, behind the camera.
Deadline has word that Pine is serving as both co-writer and star of the independent comedy “Mantivities” for the Waterstone Entertainment banner, with a script by Pine and a literal army of his bros, including Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau. “Reno 911” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” helmer...

A good barometer for one’s success level in Hollywood is if you have enough money to get all of your best buds together, write a screenplay then produce it into a feature film. Star Trek star Chris Pine must be at the top of his game, cause he has done just that for a new independent comedy.
Deadline reports that actor will be making his producing and writing debut in a film titled Mantivities, which he wrote with his friends Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau. Pine will also star in the film that doesn’t seem to stray far from their real lives, as it follows a group of best buds in their 30s, who are “all in various stages of permanent adolescence.” The plot follows them attempting to assist one in their group to grow up.

Star Trek's Chris Pine got a bit of a beating earlier this year when the action-comedy he headlined with Tom Hardy, This Means War, stumbled at the box office and was hammered by critics. Still, things are looking up for the handsome leading man with a winsome demeanor. Pine will show his drama chops in June in Alex Kurtzman's People Like Us. He has recently wrapped on the wildly anticipated Star Trek 2, and is gearing up to front the presently untitled Jack Ryan project, based on the popular Tom Clancy thriller novels. But Pine has a mind to carve out his own opportunities, and Deadline reports he has just set up a comedy script of his own with newly minted production company Waterstone Entertainment. Awkwardly titled Mantivities, the screenplay Pine penned with friends Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau centers on a...

Chris Pine knows that men will be boys.
The "Star Trek" star will soon be trying his hand at indie comedy as he's signed on to headline "Mantivities," according to Deadline.
"Mantivities" focuses on a group of thirtysomething friends, all in various stages of permanent adolescence. They get together with the aim of helping one of them grow up — and, in the process, we're imagining that all of them do.
This is something of a personal project for Pine, as he also co-wrote the script — along with five of his pals: Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau. Might it be safe to assume that the main characters will all bear some sort of passing resemblance to the scribes that created them?

Despite serving once more as the captain of the Enterprise for next year’s Star Trek sequel and lending his vocal chords to the new DreamWorks ‘toon Rise Of The Guardians, Chris Pine has also found time to write a comedy, Mantivities, which he’s planning to co-star in. The film takes a look at a familiar theme: a group of friends in their early ‘30s who are all staunchly refusing to grow up, despite staring real life in the face. But they decide to band together to help one of their number mature in certain ways. Hilarity, we assume, ensues.Pine scribbled the screenplay with friends Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebtrau, and with that many writers, we’re assuming they just took alternating words. “I couldn’t be happier to begin the adventure of making Mantivities knowing how much fun we all had writing it,...
