Park City is with her — or will be, when an under-wraps documentary series about Hillary Clinton debuts at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
“Hillary,” directed by Nanette Burstein, is one of several projects going up in Sundance’s special events program, announced Tuesday by the festival in step with its short film and indie episodic lineups.
The four-part series, produced by Hulu, is described as “a portrait of a public woman, interweaving moments from never-before-seen 2016 campaign footage with biographical chapters of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s life.” The project will feature interviews with Clinton herself, husband Bill Clinton, close friends and journalists, and represent “an examination of how she became simultaneously one of the most admired and vilified women in the world.” It premieres March 6 on Hulu.
It’s unclear if Clinton will appear at the festival in support of the project. This summer, reports said she and daughter Chelsea Clinton...

A couple years ago, my friend and I came up with the germ of an idea for a movie plot, centered on a man who -- after a near-fatal accident -- began to see life as one big giant musical and corresponded to this discovery accordingly, even when his perplexed local citizens couldn't understand his actions or point-of-view. Little did we know, though, a similar-minded movie was already in the works at Disney called Bob: The Musical. The in-the-works production focuses on an everyman who -- upon getting a nasty blow to the noggin -- starts to instantly hear the songs inside everyone's hearts as his life is turned into a musical. Mild jealously aside, I'm very curious to see what is cooked up here if it actually comes into fruition, which is looking more-and-more likely. Earlier this year, Tom Cruise joined the film to play the titular character, with...

Disney’s long-gestating musical comedy Bob the Musical, in which The Artist helmer Michel Hazanavicius may direct Tom Cruise, will be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon, The Hollywood Reporter revealed last night. Additionally, Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar for “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets has been enlisted to write songs for the pic.
Bob the Musical centers on a regular guy who suffers a head injury after which he is able to hear the heart songs of everyone around him – much to his confusion and dismay. It’s been in development for more than a decade but recently got a shot in the arm when Hazanavicius, searching for a mainstream project to tackle in the wake of 2011 Best Picture winner The Artist, got involved.
As for Cruise, he’s still circling the lead role but has not signed on yet. The actor has flourished in musical...

In a parallel universe, Alison Brie and Jennifer Lawrence starred in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer parody, which featured a lot of jokes about vaginas. But really, this actually happened in 2007 when Not Another Teen Movie’s Mike Bender filmed a TV pilot for a thing called Not Another High School Show. It didn't go over so well. He cast voice actor H. Jon Benjamin as a creeper janitor and Lawrence as the student he pervs on. He also turned Brie into a dumb-as-a-doorknob version of Buffy. The jokes are all low-hanging fruit, but maybe that’s your thing, and that’s cool. Watch the terrible Muffy the Vampire Slayer for a peek at baby J-Law and at a blonde Brie making jokes about her pubic hair. Somewhere, Joss Whedon is shaking his head...

Although not as risible as the similarly-named Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer spoofs, 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie wasn’t exactly beloved, either. (Its MetaCritic score is a basement-dwelling 32.) Nevertheless, it made money, and years later its writer, Mike Bender, took some of that, uh, magic to a pilot called Not Another High School Show.
Even though its cast featured Alison Brie and a future Oscar winner named Jennifer Lawrence, it didn’t get picked up—and with good reason, judging by this clip Uproxx found. While a parody of Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Brie and Lawrence may sound like it could work,...

Off the success of Not Another Teen Movie in 2007, Mike Bender was asked by Comedy Central to make a TV version. The result was the failed pilot Not Another High School Show. Here's where it gets fun: Attending said fake high-school were Jennifer Lawrence and Alison Brie. As you'll see in the clip below, Brie plays Muffy the Vampire Slayer, because vagina jokes. Lawrence just plays a regs teen (who gets hit on by a dying H. Jon Benjamin). Lawrence has been nominated for three Oscars since. Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Updated, 1/7: Each year, the five broadcast networks develop hundreds of scripted dramas and comedies in hopes they’ll become the next NCIS and Desperate Housewives, or the latest Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. And like every year, a great deal of them are not worth mentioning here — mostly because they involve the bland types of cops, lawyers, and doctors who you’ve already seen fighting crime or sneaking a kiss on the way to the ER.
But fascinating projects continue to pass the first smell test at the broadcast networks. The key is whether the suits take...

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs very quickly turned me into a fan of directorial team Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film pointed me towards their sharp and funny, if short-lived show Clone High, and has me anticipating the big-screen version of 21 Jump Street, which they're set to direct [1] in early spring 2011. And now the duo is in talks to direct a musical for Disney. Specifically, Bob the Musical, about a man who can suddenly hear the songs within all of us. Lest that sound too sickly sweet, he's none too happy about the deal. (At least at first.) Details after the break. THR [2] says the duo is in talks to develop and direct. The story follows Bob, "a regular guy who, after a blow to the head, suddenly can hear the inner songs of everyone’s hearts as his reality is instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay.

Phil Lord and Chris Millar, the co-writers and directors of the food frenzy of an animation that is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, are currently in talks with Disney to potentially create and direct a new comedy entitled Bob the Musical. Yes, Bob the Musical. [Risky Biz]
The story of Bob follows a normal, unassuming guy who suffers a nasty blow to the head. A strange after effect caused by the bump on the noggin just happens to be that he is now able to hear the songs inside other peoples’ hearts. Freaky. As long as I can remember writing for JoBlo.com, I can remember writing about Bob: The Musical, a film that has gone through various forms of development at Disney. Based on a popular blog and book created by Mike Bender and Doug Chernack, Awkward Family Photos features some of the most eye-brow raising photos featuring family members in awkward poses or scenarios. Now, who would send in photos of their own family in some questionable, laugh out loud positions is beyond me. How the studio will manage to turn this into a scripted comedy is even far more complexing, but I have seen stranger things happen.

Adam Shankman, director of the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories, has signed on to direct two new projects - Disney's Bob the Musical and The 8th Voyage of Sinbad, which will be his biggest film yet in terms of budget and scope. Bob is a musical comedy to be produced by Benderspink's Chris Bender and Jc Spink and Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson. It was written by Mike Bender and follows a mild-mannered man who suddenly hears the "inner song" of people's hearts after being struck in the head. Male cheerleaders are taking to the court at Disney, which has picked up the spec script "The Matadors" by Mike Bender.
Choreographer-turned-director Anne Fletcher is on board to helm the dance comedy inspired by the professional male cheerleading squad that performs at every Chicago Bulls home game. Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Disney-based Offspring Entertainment.
Although the title may change, "Matadors" will follow two pro basketball superfans whose devotion to their home team led them to form a professional male cheerleading squad.
Fletcher played basketball growing up and was a Laker girl, exposing her to die-hard fans for whom she grew to have an affinity.
"These guys who are the ultimate fans, the biggest deed they can do is dance and cheerlead for their team," she said. "I wanted to do an all-out comedy, and having the dance elements, that was icing on the cake."
No actors are on board, but she is looking forward to the casting process.
"It's an array of guys, with all sorts of shapes and sizes," Fletcher said. We'll be able to have fun with the casting."
The studio is talking to the NBA about partnering on the project and using the league's teams.
The project was brought to Offspring by producer Alison Rosenzweig ("Windtalkers"), Michael Gaeta and Suzan Hagan, all of whom are negotiating their producing deals.
Offspring's Matthew Mizel will co-produce.
Kristin Burr will oversee the project for Disney.
The project continues the long association between Fletcher and Shankman. Fletcher worked as a choreographer on numerous films for Shankman, himself a choreographer-turned-director. She made her directorial debut on "Step Up," produced by Shankman and Gibgot.
Fletcher, repped by UTA, most recently directed the Katherine Heigl hit "27 Dresses" and is in post on Disney's "The Proposal," starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
Shankman and Offspring are in post on the Adam Sandler fantasy comedy "Bedtime Stories," which also is being produced by Gunn Films and Happy Madison.
Bender, repped by Endeavor and Benderspink, was a writer on several MTV Movie Awards and on "Not Another Teen Movie," which Fletcher choreographed. He has "Bob the Musical" set up at Disney.

- Quick Links > Liv Tyler > Strangers > Rogue Pictures > Beware the Night > Green Eyes Liv Tyler, fresh off the heels of Jersey Girl and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy (has it been that long since we’ve seen her?), has signed on to appear in Rogue Pictures’ Strangers. This thriller, written and directed by first-timer Bryan Bertino, revolves around a young couple who are harassed in their vacation home by three unknown ‘strangers,’ thus the title. Tyler will play the female half of the couple. The male roles have yet to be cast. Since she starred opposite Casey Affleck in Steve Buscemi’s under-seen and under appreciated film, Lonesome Jim, there hasn't been much activity on her part. Liv has no doubt spent her time off caring for her child, who was born in 2004, and who’s father, Royston Langdon, was once in a band called Spacehog.

Torrente, an unapologetic dark comedy film series from Spain about a corrupt cop, is getting the remake treatment from New Line Cinema. Mike Bender and Doug Chernack have been brought on board to write the U.S. version, which is being produced by Benderspink. Torrente follows the exploits of Jose Luis Torrente, a poster child for police corruption who is a lazy, rude, despicable drunkard, caring only about protecting and serving himself. Despite that, he still manages to get the job done. The movies were written by, directed by and starred popular Spanish comedian-director Santiago Segura and were produced by Andres Vicente Gomez, who exec produced the Academy Award-winning Belle Epoque.
