Luca Guadagnino’s love triangle drama Challengers starts its UK-Ireland box office campaign this weekend through Warner Bros.
Opening in 702 sites with additional venues still being added, the film stars Zendaya, 2016 Screen Star of Tomorrow Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist in the story of three aspiring tennis professionals fighting both for championships and romantically.
Initially programmed as the opening film of last year’s Venice Film Festival, Challengers was withdrawn following the actors’ strike, which would have prevented its starry cast from promoting the release.

The month of April seemingly sailed by with far too many moderate releases, and the month ends this weekend with more of the same. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino returns with the sexy tennis drama “Challengers,” starring the powerhouse trio of Zendaya (“Euphoria”), Josh O’Connor (“The Crown”) and Mike Faist (“West Side Story”) as superstar tennis players who fall into a competitive love triangle. This is Zendaya’s first movie after “Dune: Part Two,” and it will be a real test for her as a box office star, since sports dramas can be hit or miss. “Challengers” really is riding on her popularity to avoid the pitfalls of the genre.
Tennis has had an especially tough time at the box office, as seen by Will Smith‘s Oscar-winning turn in the 2021 release “King Richard,” about the father of Venus and Serena Williams,...

Who loves Zendaya? Show of hands? Well if you do, and Amazon MGM Studios is betting that plenty of 18-24 olds do, you can watch the Euphoria Emmy winner in Imax in Amazon MGM Studio’s Challengers this weekend, then sit around and watch her again in Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two.
The R-rated menage a trois tennis romantic comedy, Challengers, finally steps on the court this weekend after being pushed from its Sept. 15 release date due to the actors strike, with an eye at a $15M domestic opening at 3,400 locations, give or take. The pic will serve as a testament to Zendaya’s box office drawing power sans any attachments to major IP, read Dune or Spider-Man. Already working in the favor of the Luca Guadagnino directed, Amy Pascal produced movie are excellent reviews at 95% certified fresh. If this movie can truly breakout, it’s a win...

Only a handful of people can recall the gem A Knight’s Tale, starring Heath Ledger. Director Brian Helgeland recently disclosed that despite consideration for a sequel to the highly acclaimed film, Netflix’s algorithm predicted that the movie wouldn’t be worth the effort. Now, fans are discussing another disappointing sequel that was recently released, Zack Snyder’s brainchild, Rebel Moon: Part 2, which many believe should never have seen the light of day.

Before AI started growing as a concern in the entertainment industry in many aspects, there was and still is a struggle with the way streamers promote works to certain viewers, with their algorithms spotlighting some content while leaving others in the dark. The technology is in almost every facet of the internet to customize exposure and availability to consumers. Studios seemingly make creative decisions based on what is trending or what spikes in activity. However, rarely do you hear of movie pitches getting turned down due to the unfavorable results of an algorithm.
That’s exactly what director Brian Helgeland claims happened with Netflix after he was pitching to them an idea to do a sequel to his 2001 period film A Knight’s Tale. The first movie starred the late Heath Ledger, and while his absence alone would play a big factor in working against a sequel, Helgeland says Netflix lost...

Netflix briefly jousted with the idea for a “A Knight’s Tale” sequel, but ultimately passed due to the concept.
Director Brian Helgeland told Inverse that following the release of the 2001 film starring late actor Heath Ledger, a sequel was shopped to studio Sony and then Netflix. The first concept was a “meh” for Sony — the second made it to the desks of Netflix. The streamer walked away after it decided the concept for “A Knight’s Tale 2” would “not be successful” among its audience, Helgeland said.
The first:
“When we finished ‘A Knight’s Tale,’ we were already thinking about making the sequel as a pirate film,” Helgeland said. “The plot revolved around Count Adhemar kidnapping Jocelyn and taking her to Constantinople. They end up as galley slaves after their boat is captured by pirates. There’s a prisoner on the boat who has a treasure map tattooed on his back,...

Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.
It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

'A Knight's Tale' sequel was scrapped by the Netflix algorithm, according to director Brian Helgeland. The 63-year-old filmmaker has been keen to shoot a follow-up to his 2001 medieval comedy classic - which starred Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany and Alan Tudyk - but despite the original movie's enduring popularity, the streaming platform has decided against it.He told Inverse magazine: "I pitched it to Sony because they own the rights, and it seemed like they were interested in making it with Netflix, releasing it as a Netflix movie.“My understanding is that Netflix tested this sequel idea through their algorithms, which indicated that it would not be successful."‘A Knight’s Tale’ seems to get more popular with every passing year; it’s the strangest thing.”Helgeland and the team already had big plans for a sequel almost 20 years ago when they finished work on the original movie. He recalled:...

“A Knight’s Tale” director Brian Helgeland revealed in a career retrospective interview with Inverse that his efforts to make a sequel to his 2001 medieval action-comedy classic were apparently thwarted by the Netflix algorithm.
“When we finished ‘A Knight’s Tale,’ we were already thinking about making the sequel as a pirate film,” Helgeland said. “The plot revolved around Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell) kidnapping Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) and taking her to Constantinople. A potential sequel to “A Knight’s Tale,” the 2001 period comedy that starred the late Heath Ledger as an aspiring knight, was killed by the Netflix algorithm, according to director Brian Helgeland.
“I pitched it to Sony because they own the rights, and it seemed like they were interested in making it with Netflix and releasing it as a Netflix movie,” the original film’s writer-director told Inverse in an interview published Monday. “My understanding is that Netflix tested this sequel idea through their algorithms, which indicated that it would not be successful.”

It has been a lucky 13 years since Tom Hiddleston first played Loki, the God of Mischief in the film “Thor.” He returned to the role recently for season two of the TV series “Loki.” This Disney+ show provided a beautiful end (we’ll see) to the character’s epic arc.
The sophomore outing of the series seee Loki trying to save the universe with the help of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Mobius (Owen Wilson), and Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan). Kang (Jonathan Majors) is once again at the center of the trouble. The series is fantastical and is held together by the superb performance of Hiddleston. Once again, this classically trained actor brings Shakespearean authority to the role. He is also able to infuse increasing vulnerability to the former villain, making Loki one of the best characters in MCU history. Critics agree, “Loki” is the Tom Hiddleston show.

Hollywood casting can be a fickle thing. But for actresses who’ve graced the silver screen as Spider-Man’s love interest, there seems to be a recurring theme – a hidden talent for tennis!
A still from Spider-Man

It’s not merely a coincidence; each of them has actually portrayed a tennis player in different movies, following their roles in Spider-Man flicks.

Britain’s contributions to the cinematic form have been vast and glorious. Aardman Animation. Alfred Hitchcock. Olivia Colman. 007. High up that list, too, is the British gangster movie – sure, America may often get the genre limelight with classics like Goodfellas, The Godfather trilogy, and Scarface, but nobody does dark, gritty, violent, and darkly humorous quite like the British. You certainly wouldn’t catch football-hardman-turned-movie-hardman Vinnie Jones rolling down the street with some poor geezer’s bonce trapped in his car window anywhere else, that’s for sure!

From comedy classics, to bruising turn-of-the-century tales of brutality and crime, to contemporary subversions of the genre formula, we’ve covered all bases. Exclusive: Netflix’s film division has preemptively acquired a pitch for an untitled law school thriller from Holland, Michigan‘s Andrew Sodroski, sources tell Deadline.
Netflix could not be reached for comment. While plot details are unknown at this time, the pitch is said to be described as a contemporary spin on The Firm meets The Wolf of Wall Street. Ben Pugh and Peter Dealbert will produce for the L.A. and London-based management and production company 42.
Most recently, 42 worked with Netflix as a producer on its sci-fi actioner Outside the Wire starring Anthony Mackie, which debuted at #1 and was watched by 66 million households in its first quarter on the platform. Sodroski’s pitch marks 42’s second pre-emptive sale in a row on the heels of The Bet, a thriller spec from Enemy‘s Javier Gullón that sold to Warner Bros for what we’re told was a significant figure.

Remember "Solo: A Star Wars Story"? Sure you do! It was the second "Star Wars" anthology film — that is, a film set outside the main "Star Wars" Skywalker Saga timeline — following "Rogue One," and its less-than-great reception essentially killed off the idea of Disney doing new anthology films. Instead, the studio stuck with finishing out the Skywalker Saga in a disappointing fashion and then shifted to a bevy of Disney+ shows (some of which are soon to make the jump from the small to the big screen).
Directed by Ron Howard, "Solo" tells us how Han Solo became Han Solo, which was apparently a concept audiences weren't particularly interested in at the time, since the flick ended up being the first box office bomb in "Star Wars" history. All that said, I think "Solo" is better than its reputation suggests. It's not a great movie, but it's not an abomination,...

Miramax’s “Here,” which reunites “Forrest Gump” filmmaker Robert Zemeckis with stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, will get a three-step platform release this November from TriStar Pictures.
The film will premiere exclusively in L.A. and N.Y. on Nov. 15, followed by a limited release on Nov. 22, and a wide release on Nov. 27.
This summer marks 30 years since “Forrest Gump” first premiered. Zemeckis re-teamed with writer Eric Roth to pen the script for “Here,” which is based on the innovative 2014 graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire. It’s described as an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations, capturing the human experience in its purest form for a tale of love, loss, laughter and life.
Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly and Michelle Dockery will also star. In January 2023, it was revealed that Hanks and Wright would be digitally de-aged for the ambitious project,...

Showtime’s “Fellow Travelers” depicts a sweeping, complex romance across the ages in one of the most acclaimed pieces of television this year. Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey are the couple in question and both men are at the top of their game here.
Bomer has always been a commanding performer, capturing viewers’ attention every moment he’s on-screen. As the closeted Hawk Fuller, he delivers a performance of vulnerability and restraint. Critics agree, it’s some of his best work.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Bomer and Bailey deserve all the credit coming their way for building such palpable chemistry…. Bomer’s stoic restraint proves his strongest attribute. Hawk, quite literally, is cleaner cut than a Kennedy (Bobby makes a brief appearance), and Bomer wears his classic Wasp exterior like a slightly too-snug Halloween costume. He can smile for the cameras, but there’s something tugging at the corners,...

Many iconic characters have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the release of Iron Man back in 2008. However, not many characters have been able to make as huge an impact on the franchise as Tony Stark has.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark | Source: Iron Man
Even though he is considered one of the most intelligent characters in the Marvel Universe, it seems like Stark was allegedly too lazy to come up with a creative full form for Jarvis.
Tony Stark gave the most ridiculous full form to Jarvis
Despite being one of the most intelligent characters in multiple universes, Tony Stark was just too lazy to give a creative name to one of its most helpful AI, Jarvis. According to Marvel, Jarvis stands for ‘Just a Rather Very Intelligent System‘ which does not seem like much of a cool acronym for an AI system of its magnificent abilities.

In the wake of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, numerous theories came out pointing toward the various other ways in which the Avengers could have won. While there were multiple ways where lesser sacrifices could have been made, and characters could have been saved, one question keeps on popping up: Why did the Avengers not destroy the Infinity Stones?
Thanos with the Infinity Stones, in Avengers: Infinity War
The Infinity Stones were the key to Thanos’ plans. However, every single one of the gems needed to be acquired by Thanos, so that he could accurately commit genocide which was random and not targeted. All the Avengers needed to do was destroy just one of the gems, or all of them, to prevent Thanos from coming.

Ultron is one of the most nefarious and tricky foes the Avengers have had to deal with in the pages of Marvel Comics. However, the character was underutilized in his big-screen debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film’s climax sees the villainous AI disintegrated, leaving little room for Ultron’s return in future MCU projects.

For a brief shining moment at the beginning of the 21st century, it seemed as though the historical epic was back. Despite the sniffs of some prominent film critics, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator walked away with the Best Picture Oscar in the century’s first year; a flood of sword and sandal epics invaded cinemas like the 1950s never ended; and it generally wasn’t a Russell Crowe movie unless the Australian thespian was waving a saber, cutlass, gladius, or other form of blade through the air.
Yet the movie which arguably stood tallest during this fleeting period was Peter Weir’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Not so much adapting any single novel in author Patrick O’Brian’s legendary Aubrey-Maturin book series, Weir pulled from close to a half-dozen tales in this saga set on the high seas during the Napoleonic Wars. Paul Bettany a very renounced, talented super enthusiastic British actor known for his marvelous role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ‘A Beautiful Mind’ has some other paths also to make money apart from acting.
It is undeniable and undoubtedly his priority is acting but he is involved in other businesses too to make millions and enhance his financial base. The actor has around net worth of 50 million dollars currently.

In Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man," the title hero (Robert Downey Jr.) was assisted in his high-tech superhero lab by an artificially intelligent butler-like presence named J.A.R.V.I.S. Iron Man's digital butler not only wrangled the hero's complicated engineering projects, but also controlled the even-higher-tech devices in his lab. When Iron Man went out on patrol, J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice could be heard inside his helmet. J.A.R.V.I.S. was voiced by Paul Bettany. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continued to grow, so too did Iron Man's computerized friend. Eventually, J.A.R.V.I.S. was shunted into an indestructible android body and renamed Vision (also Bettany).

Seeing Anthony Dod Mantle’s name on EnergaCAMERIMAGE’s guest list, I had some instinct we should talk. Few cinematographers in my (or yours or anyone’s) lifetime have rejigged what that job means, what it might do, and how people––in direct terms or on the most subconscious levels––think about it. Just a glance at his credits is dizzying: there’s the radical approach to visual storytelling in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Celebration, a movie people still try to even approach emulating; Harmony Korine’s Julien-Donkey Boy, which almost looks like The Celebration expect for the fact that it looks like literally nothing else; there’s mainstream cinema’s major introduction to digital images in 28 Days Later, the early stage of a Danny Boyle partnership that leads to Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire; somewhere along the way he shoots two Ron Howard films that suggest the director discovered experimental cinema; and,...

The world of "Poor Things" is a cornucopia of zany imagery and the costumes are no exception. The clothes themselves tell a story, and the silhouettes are crucial in creating this whimsical imagery. However, some of these elegant shapes were created using rather inelegant methods.
Mark Ruffalo stars in Yorgos Lanthimos' newest film as a fun-loving lawyer named Wedderburn who falls in love with a mad scientist's latest experiment, Bella (played brilliantly by Emma Stone), and runs away with her. The actor describes his eccentric character as "a bon vivant, a total egoist, and megalomaniac" in an interview with Indiewire. Ruffalo might be playing a romantic hero in the film, but Wedderburn is far from a traditional leading man. Even his backside is unconventional — so much so that it required a bit of movie magic. New information seems to confirm that only two MCU stars were able to read the entire script for Avengers: Infinity War before filming commenced.
While Marvel Studios has always been known for its secrets, the company’s paranoia was at an all-time high for Infinity War and Endgame.
Previously, the Russo Brothers confirmed some “actors were given fake scripts” for the highly anticipated event films. Star Paul Bettany even confirmed that some of them rehearsed with material containing “fake scenes… twists… [and] storylines” (via ScreenRant).

After a six-year run leading Miramax, CEO Bill Block is exiting the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Block’s contract at Miramax, co-owned by beIN Media Group and Paramount Global, expired this week and was not renewed. The executive started as CEO in April 2017.
The studio is looking to develop projects based on its own intellectual property rather than aiming to acquire projects, a source close to Miramax’s owners said. A search is underway for a new top executive.
Miramax, founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein and then later purchased and sold by Disney, has largely been known in recent years for its expansive library of more than 700 films. However, since Block joined and its acquisition by BeIN and Paramount, the studio has tried to make a bigger push into producing and distribution with the relaunch of the Halloween franchise, as well as films such as The Gentleman,...

The actress turned up to the star-studded runway presentation for Louis Vuitton in the City of Lights wearing a daring white dress with double zippers. The plunging gown featured a top zipper that was pulled down to her midriff, while the bottom accent was zipped open to her mid thigh. She paired the look with stilettos to match, minimal Bulgari jewelry (including mini hoop earrings, gold bangles and a ring) and her hair parted down the middle. She attended the womenswear spring/summer 2024 show with an entourage that included longtime stylist and close friend Law Roach.
