Emily Blunt is getting ahead of a potential scandal by telling People magazine she is “appalled” about a September 2012 appearance on the UK’s “Jonathan Ross Show” in which she called a waiter “enormous.” The actor was promoting her role in Rian Johnson’s “Looper” at the time. A clip of Blunt calling the waiter “enormous” must’ve begun circulating online, as the actor issued a statement to People in which she apologized for her language.
“If you go to Chili’s you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous,” Blunt told Ross during the interview. “Well the girl who was serving me was enormous.”
“I just need to address this head-on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12 years ago,” Blunt said Friday in a statement exclusive to People. “I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful and...

A man who went out on a birthday bar crawl dressed as Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings was stunned when he ran into none other than Sir Ian McKellen.
The 83-year-old thespian famously portrayed the sage wizard in Peter Jackson’s hit trilogy of film adaptations, later reprising the role for the director’s Hobbit trilogy.
The serendipitious meeting occurred on 13 April when Ben Coyles, a 22-year-old music student, was out celebrating his birthday on the streets of Bristol.
McKellen was in the city as part of the touring production of the pantomime Mother Goose. The show, which also starred comedian John Bishop, has just concluded a 145-date nationwide tour.
“So it was really bizarre, it was my 22nd birthday, and we were on a pub crawl,” the reveller recalled, per Bristol Post.

Paul O’Grady has expressed his “disappointment” with BBC Radio 2, saying “it’s not what it was”.
The broadcaster’s comments come after the news that veteran DJ Ken Bruce was leaving the station after 45 years to go to Greatest Hits Radio.
InJanuary, when Bruce announced his departure, former Radio 2 DJ Vanessa feltz accused the BBC of “ageism”.
Now, O’Grady, who left Radio 2 in 2021 after being asked to share his slot with comedian Rob Beckett, has explained the motivation behind his decision.
“I was disappointed, because I’m a great believer in continuity,” he told Metro.co.uk, adding: “If you go off for 13 weeks and somebody else comes on, the listeners don’t know when you’re back on.”
He continued: “Radio 2 has changed; it’s not what it was. They’re trying to aim for a much younger audience, which doesn’t make sense because you’ve got Radio 1.

Actor Jansen Panettiere’s sudden cause of death has been revealed by his family.
The younger brother of Hayden Panettiere died suddenly on 19 February at the age of 28.
Law enforcement officials were allegedly called to his New York home at around 5:30pm, according to reports.
At the time, no further details had been released.
Now, a week later on Monday (27 February), in a statement shared with ABC News, the Panettiere family opened up about his death.
“Jansen’s heart could be seen in his eyes, and his charm in his brilliant, engaging smile; his soul in his masterful and revealing paintings, and the joy of life in his dry wit,” they wrote in a joint statement.
“Though it offers little solace, the Medical Examiner reported Jansen’s sudden passing was due to cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications.”

Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial column about the Duchess of Sussex will be investigated by press regulator Ipso.
In December, Clarkson published a column in which he wrote that he hated Meghan on a “cellular level”.
Following a huge backlash, Clarkson apologised and later said that he had reached out to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over the article. However, Harry and Meghan issued their own statement claiming that Clarkson had only apologised to Harry.
On Thursday, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) announced that it had launched an investigation into Clarkson’s article after receiving more than 25,100 complaints. It is Ipso’s most complained-about article ever.
The press watchdog said that they were taking forward two complaints by The Fawcett Society and The Wilde Foundation.
The complaints claimed that Clarkson’s article breached Clause 1 (Accuracy), Clause 3 (Harassment) and Clause 12 (Discrimination) of the Ipso code.

This show has been a fixture of UK television for a long time and, despite any fluctuations in the ratings, it's not going anywhere. We know it won't be cancelled right now since we already know that Russell T Davies has been hired as showrunner for season 14. Is Doctor Who sure to be renewed beyond next season? Stay tuned.
A BBC America science-fiction drama, the 13th season of the Doctor Who revival stars Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, an alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor travels through time and space in the Tardis, which appears to be a British police box on the outside, with traveling companions Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) and Dan Lewis (John Bishop). Jacob Anderson recurs. Guest stars in season 13 include Robert Bathurst, Thaddea Graham, Blake Harrison, Kevin McNally,...

The best way to describe Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker's era of "Doctor Who" is "stuff happened." And in the centenary special "The Power of the Doctor," which served as Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor swan song, stuff certainly happened. Was any of that stuff emotionally, narratively, or thematically resonant? Well, that's another story.
Jodie Whittaker's run as the first female Doctor in "Doctor Who" history has been mired in clunky writing, nonsensical plots, half-realized characters, and empty spectacle — which on the surface, sounds par for the course for a show as silly and weird as "Doctor Who." But it's been missing the heart that made those kinds of quirks bearable, and as a result — despite some genuine bright spots through this four-year run — has felt like a chore to watch more than anything. And Whittaker's final episode as the Thirteenth Doctor certainly felt like a laundry list of fan...

Here we are again, then. Doesn’t seem like five minutes since Easter, does it? I swear I’ve still got half a chocolate rabbit in the fridge… But time trundles on, and we’re here to bid goodbye to Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor after what feels like an oddly-fleeting tenure in the Tardis.
In terms of episode count, Whittaker’s run hasn’t been that much shorter than, say, Peter Capaldi’s. But then, both Capaldi and Matt Smith’s Doctors went through a number of evolutions in their time, with marked shifts in their personalities as companions came and went. We glimpsed Eleven’s decades on Trenzalore and Twelve’s exile in his confession dial, watching those Doctors grow old and weary. Ready for their end.

The end is near for Jodie Whitaker’s run on “Doctor Who,” as the BBC announced that the Thirteenth Doctor’s final episode, “The Power of the Doctor,” will air on Oct. 23 as a new trailer was released.
As has been customary for “Doctor Who” since it was revived in 2005, the regeneration of the Doctor into a new face as the role is passed from one actor to another is coming with a massive adventure filled with all of the series’ most famous adversaries. We, of course, have the Doctor’s famous archrival, The Master (Sacha Dhawan) telling her that this is the day that she is “erased forever,” but we also have the Daleks and Cybermen menacing the universe as well.

Jodie Whittaker could depart iconic BBC science fiction series “Doctor Who,” according to a report in U.K. tabloid Daily Mirror.
The Mirror reports that the actor’s departure is being kept under wraps, but is an open secret on set. Whittaker is the 13th actor and the first woman to play the beloved British character.
“We won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show,” a BBC spokesperson told Variety.
Variety has also reached out to Whittaker’s reps for comment, but didn’t receive a response by press time.
A departure for Whittaker after three seasons wouldn’t be hugely out of the ordinary: this has been the practice for most actors playing the Doctor in the show’s recent seasons.
The Mirror report also states that Whittaker’s co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are set to leave the show, but that showrunner Chris Chibnall will remain.

Doctor Who returned for a one-off special this New Year’s Day and, while there was a lot of fun to be had from the inclusion of John Barrowman’s Captain Jack and a Dalek civil war, “Revolution of the Daleks” ended on a heartbreaking note as not one, but two of the Thirteenth Doctor’s best friends left the show. As we knew going into the episode, both Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) exited the Tardis, breaking up the Time Lord’s so-called “fam” that has been at the heart of the series since 2018.

And later that same month, we were all imprisoned ourselves as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold and plunged the world into quarantine. But in the Doctor Who New Year’s special, our heroine escapes her bonds. Unfortunately, we’re not quite out of the woods yet ourselves, but “Revolution of the Daleks” still provided a much needed home visit from the Doctor.

The BBC confirmed in November that New Year special ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ would see the departure of two of Doctor Who’s current companions. And so it went. Bradley Walsh’s Graham and Tosin Cole’s Ryan have now left the Tardis, and we already know who’ll be taking their place. Actor and comedian John Bishop has joined the cast for series 13.
54-year-old Bishop will play new character “Dan”, a role that executive producer Chris Chibnall says was built specifically for the stand-up and actor. “As he becomes embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures, Dan will quickly learn there’s more to the Universe(s) than he could ever believe,” says the BBC press release.
Said release stops short of using the word ‘companion’ to describe Dan but confirms that he’ll be “travelling through Space and Time alongside the Doctor and Yaz,” when “he’ll face evil...

British comedian John Bishop is going to cast a satirical eye over the week’s events in a new topical entertainment show for ITV.
Details on the new format were thin, but it was unveiled at the ITV Palooza, an annual upfronts event at which the broadcaster attempts to wow advertisers with its line-up for the weeks and months ahead.
John Bishop at the Weekend will be made by Bishop’s production company, Lola Entertainment, and features the comedian looking back over the week’s news with contributors and special guests, some of whom may star regularly.
Bishop is no stranger to ITV’s entertainment line-up. Known for his everyman humor, the Liverpudlian was a guest host on the broadcaster’s ill-fated The Nightly Show and fronted The Royal Variety Performance in 2013.
Elsewhere, he presented The John Bishop Show for UKTV channel W, in which he conducted in-depth interviews with celebrities,...

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to Cowes on the Isle of Wight on Thursday to host a special boat regatta, The King's Cup, to raise funds and awareness for eight of the couple's royal patronages. William and Kate, who are both keen sailors, led two of the teams out on the water, while a very special spectator, Prince George, watched from another boat with his grandfather Michael Middleton. Prince William's boat represented Child Bereavement UK, one of the patronages he took over from his mother, Princess Diana. The duchess competed on behalf of The Royal Foundation's Early Years programme. They were joined by a number of famous faces leading other charity teams, among them survival instructor and TV personality Bear Grylls, and comedian John Bishop.

British broadcaster Channel 4 has found its man to lead its youth revolution – hiring Karl Warner, founder of Sony-backed producer Electric Ray as head of E4.
Warner, who founded the Million Pound Menu and Alone at Home producer in 2014, becomes Controller of the youth-skewing channel, best known for series such as reality hit Made In Chelsea.
This comes after C4’s Director of Programmes Ian Katz handed the channel an additional budget of £10M (Us$13.4M).
Katz called Warner, a colorful character in British television, known for wearing garish jackets, one of the most “impish” figures in the UK industry. Before setting up Electric Ray, alongside Meredith Chambers, he worked at the BBC, commissioning series such as John Bishop’s Britain, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Live at the Apollo for BBC One and Undercover Princes, Russell Howard’s Good News and Junior Doctors for BBC Three. Wgn America is adding to its Prime Crime slate with the acquisition of two original series in the detective procedural genre — the comedic Carter, starring Jerry O’Connell (Billions), Sydney Poitier Heartsong (Chicago P.D.) and Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), which will premiere August 7, and crime drama Gone, starring Chris Noth (The Good Wife), Leven Ramblin (The Hunger Games) and Danny Pino (CSI: Miami), for debut in early 2019.
Carter and Gone are part of Wgn America’s new programming strategy of cost-effective originals launched a year ago that involves acquisitions of already produced series, virtually all in the crime arena. The two new pickups represent a new element in the tactic. While all previous acquisitions have been foreign series — 2017 Canadian detective drama Bellevue starring Anna Paquin, 2015 Swedish-American thriller 100 Code, 2016 Canadian police series Shoot the Messenger and the 2017 Canadian drama Pure — Carter and Gone, while having international pedigree, both originated in the U.

For fans of the police procedural series, the Universal Channel is about to embark on the new series Gone, which focuses on abductions/missing person cases and stars police crime drama veterans Chris Noth and Danny Pino and the Hunger Games alumna Leven Rambin. It may be an over-saturated TV genre but the series gives something a little different this time around by not only focusing on the cases but characters and their relationships too.
Gone tells the story of Kit “Kick” Lanigan (Leven Rambin, The Hunger Games), the survivor of a famous child-abduction case, and Frank Novak (Chris Noth, The Good Wife), the FBI agent who rescued her. Determined never to fall victim again, as an adult Kick has trained herself in martial arts and the use of firearms. She finds her calling when Novak persuades her to join a special task force dedicated to solving abductions and missing persons cases.

Ken Loach returns to the political arena with the taut, violent Route Irish, a cautionary tale about the privatization of modern war propelled by a riveting, intricately plotted mystery.
Ex-sas private security contractor Fergus (Mark Womack) returns to Liverpool from Iraq to attend the funeral of his friend Frankie (John Bishop) who was killed on ‘Route Irish’, the dangerous road between Baghdad airport and the Green Zone. Fergus doesn’t accept the official story of his death, and discovers that a cell phone camera recording of a horrific shooting incident holds the key to the truth of why Frankie died.
Mark Womack’s Fergus is the ferocious heart of the film, and it is a stunning portrayal of a deeply traumatised man consumed with sorrow and anger over his experiences in Iraq and the loss of his best friend. Fergus channels his pain into a determination to get to the...

Ken Loach brings the horrors of the war in Iraq back home to Liverpool in this gripping conspiracy thriller
All films are political, though most unconsciously so. Along with a handful of others (one thinks of the great Soviet directors of the 1920s, of the Italians Francesco Rosi and Gillo Pontecorvo, of the American John Sayles), Ken Loach is that relatively rare figure, the consciously political film-maker. Only the occasional Loach film lacks some well-considered left-wing agenda, and Route Irish, his response to the war in Iraq, takes up themes he has pursued on several occasions, including crimes committed in the name of the state, the brutalisation of militarism, the exploitation of the demoralised unemployed and the thoughtless ill-treatment of native populations.

Submarine (15)
(Richard Ayoade, 2010, UK/Us) Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige, Noah Taylor. 97 mins
Ayoade evidently did his homework before stepping behind the camera, swotting up on everything from the French New Wave to The Graduate to Wes Anderson, but the result is a fresh and distinctly British-flavoured coming-of-ager, full of provincial frustrations and recognisable types. The story takes few risks – an intelligent Welsh schoolkid's quest for self-definition and sexual adventure – but Submarine works hard to earn our affections with a mix of sincerity, energy and impeccable comic timing.
You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger (12A)

A minor film by director Ken Loach's standards, but with powerful, angry moments. It's set in Iraq, and the big surprise is an impressive acting role for standup comedian John Bishop. By Peter Bradshaw
This film, written by Paul Laverty, will, on consideration, go down as a minor Loach work – yet there are powerful moments and valuable insights. It takes as its starting point the extraordinary legal immunity granted to private security personnel by the Allied military powers in Iraq after 2003: they were effectively given the right to shoot first and neglect to ask questions afterwards. Fergus and Frankie are two such, ex-army guys attracted to Iraq for a massive payday. When Frankie comes back in a coffin – having apparently died in crossfire on the dangerous road between Baghdad airport and the Green Zone called "Route Irish" – Fergus uncovers evidence that Frankie was silenced for kicking up a stink about murderous abuse.

Directors sometimes like to use 'real' people instead of actors – the results are often wonderful
Using non-professional actors in a fictional movie is a high-risk business. There is a danger that they will, paradoxically, not look "real", or that they will look real and that their authenticity will somehow expose the fiction and createdness of the rest of the film. This blog is a footnote on this subject: in cinemas at this moment, there are two interesting uses of non-professionals.
In Joanna Hogg's Archipelago, the role of the artist and painting teacher Christopher is played by real-life artist Christopher Baker. His character, always laid-back and softly spoken, becomes a kind of father-figure to the troubled young Edward, played by Tom Hiddleston, as the pain caused by his absent father becomes ever clearer. It is a measure of how naturalistic Hogg has made her film and to the rest of the performers that Baker's gentle,...

Route Irish ***
Stars: Mark Womack, Andrea Lowe, John Bishop | Written by Paul Laverty | Directed by Ken Loach
After his peculiarly upbeat dark comedy Looking For Eric in 2009 (one man’s struggle for inspiration guided by the spirit form of Eric Cantona – much better than it sounds on paper), director Ken Loach returns to familiarly bleak territory with conspiracy drama Route Irish.
Fergus, (Mark Womack) an ex-sas soldier and mercenary returns to Liverpool from his highly lucrative contracting job in Iraq for the funeral of his childhood friend and partner Frankie (John Bishop), who has been killed along Route Irish, the “most dangerous road in the world”, the road from Bagdad airport to the green zone.
Overcome with grief and struggling with the knowledge that his friend as a fellow contractor was in the Bagdad, not for patriotism but simply for money, Fergus is forced to examine his motivations for doing the job.

Thanks to the magic of the internet, we’ve got movie posters for you lovely readers to check out. We’re covering a wide range here, whether it’s action (Sucker Punch), animation (Winnie the Pooh), suspense (The Adjustment Bureau) or political (Route Irish).
First up is Zack Snyder‘s Sucker Punch, which is bringing us five separate, designed-to-look-vintage sheets, one for each character. You’ve already seen character posters in the past, but these look quite different; they not only have the aforementioned vintage look, but they’ve also got catchy taglines. Check them out below, thanks to KinoGallery (via CinemaBlend):
Up next is Winnie the Pooh, Disney’s revisit of the famed cartoon character. After a trailer premiered in November to a strong response, the anticipation for this has been surprisingly high. The poster it’s just received at Yahoo (via FirstShowing) and it seems like it...

Prom
Opens: April 29th 2011
Cast: Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, Danielle Campbell, Yin Chang
Director: Joe Nussbaum
Summary: Portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. For Nova Prescott, it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events.
Analysis: Disney's attempt at creating the next "High School Musical" franchise for itself, this teen romantic comedy is a batch of clique cliches - the beauty queen, the rebel with better hair than anyone else in the film, the handsome yet dumb foreign exchange student, the 'so above it' geek who really wants to belong, and at least one or two 'fugly' girls.
It's all very "The Breakfast Club" meets "10 Things I Hate About...

It's safe to say that Ken Loach's latest movie sees him delve into unusually explosive territory. He's not a director you'd expect to find queuing with Michael Bay at your local outlet of Pyrotechnics'r'Us, but, as you can see from the film's new quad poster, Route Irish is a departure for the Midlander: a balls-out political thriller that tackles the grisly aftermath of Britain's involvement in Iraq.Route Irish take its title from the nickname of the Baghdad Airport Road, the first, perilous road travelled by visitors seeking the sanctuary of the Green Zone. It's here that security contractor Frankie (John Bishop) meets a sticky end. His best pal and colleague Fergus (Mark Womack) heads back to Liverpool for his funeral and discovers that there's much more to his death than meets the eye. When he starts pulling the threads of Fergus' recent past, Mark starts to unravel the...
