“The Sopranos” fans got thrown a curveball in 2021 when Edie Falco revealed for the first time on an Atlantic podcast that she once reunited with James Gandolfini to reprise Tony and Carmela Soprano for a bizarre clip set two years after the events of the series finale, which infamously ended with a cut-to-black that left Tony’s fate in the balance. The purpose of the clip was to help the New York Knicks basketball organization lure LeBron James to the team.
Gandolfini and Falco shot the “Sopranos” reunion in 2010 as James was becoming a free agent after his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers expired. All of the top teams in the NBA wanted James, and the Knicks came up with the idea to make a short film with “The Sopranos” stars to help sell James on the Big Apple. A long-rumored video of James Gandolfini reprising his Emmy-winning role of Tony Soprano has been unearthed.
The footage (below) has Gandolfini and his co-star Edie Falco back in their roles as The Sopranos power couple Tony and Carmela.
The clip was privately produced in 2010 — three years after the HBO drama’s finale — in an effort to lure LeBron James to the New York Knicks.
The scene takes place “Two Years Later,” following the end of the show. “Yeah, life’s good here Carm, even if we are in the witness protection program,” Tony says to his wife. Then, they discussed the possibility of James moving to New York and finding him the perfect home: Madison Square Garden. The video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre and aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. The scene starts at the 9:30-minute mark.

Politics is full of colorful characters, but former President Donald Trump takes joviality to the next level. He has a habit of doling out expressive nicknames for reporters, critics, and both Democrat and Republican party members. Here are some of Trumps most lively epithets.

Donald Trump has a tendency to focus on height—he’s tall and his teen son Barron is even taller than him! Trump has pointed out his son’s amazing height several times and height factors into many of his doled out nicknames.
For example Donald has called Michael Bloomberg “Little Michael and Mini Mike Bloomberg” and he’s referred to Ron “Tiny D” Sanctimonious. He’s also mentioned Marco “Little Marco” Rubio, Ben “Little Ben” Sasse, and Adam “Liddle‘ Adam” Schiff.
At his own risk he’s even referred to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un would as “Little Rocket Man.”

The Democrat who delivered President Joe Biden his first defeat of the 2024 primary cycle wasn’t millionaire Congressman Dean Phillips or new age gadfly Marianne Williamson. It was a previously obscure Baltimore businessman with a name out of an Aaron Sorkin script: Jason Palmer.
Palmer shocked the incumbent, and denied the president a clean sweep on Super Tuesday, by winning the caucus in American Samoa. In so doing, his shoestring campaign — which he likens to a “lean startup” — matched the 2020 Democratic primary performance of Mike Bloomberg, who spent colossal $1 billion on his vanity presidential bid.

President Joe Biden faced his first defeat in the Democratic presidential primaries, courtesy of a previously unknown candidate, venture capitalist Jason Palmer.
Palmer, who hails from Baltimore, announced his gratitude and triumph via X: “Honored to announce my victory in the American Samoa presidential primary. Thank you to the incredible community for your support. This win is a testament to the power of our voices. Together, we can rebuild the American Dream and shape a brighter future for all.”
While Palmer secured the win in the minute U.S. territory, where the election typically sees participation from fewer than 100 individuals, it is unlikely to impede Biden’s commanding march toward securing the Democratic nomination.
Palmer’s campaign, which relied on a virtual presence rather than an in-person visit to the island, involved three full-time campaign staffers. Palmer expressed surprise at his victory in an interview with CNN and attributed his...

Mayor Eric Adams (D-New York) has expressed his desire to end the city’s sanctuary city policy and suggests that migrants “suspected” of major crimes should be handed over to federal immigration officials.
This proposal represents a potential shift in New York’s approach to protecting undocumented individuals.
In a press conference at City Hall, Adams stated, “I want to go back to the standards of the previous mayors who I believe subscribe to my belief that people who are suspected of committing serious crimes in this city should be held accountable.”
Adams emphasized the need to return to the standards set by previous mayors, such as Ed Koch and Michael Bloomberg, who allowed police to detain those arrested and charged for longer periods, which enabled U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to issue detainers.
However, the current rules established under former Mayor Bill de Blasio provide a level of...

Update: Robert Kennedy Jr. apologized to family members for a Super Bowl spot that mimicked an ad run by his uncle John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential run.
“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain,” Kennedy wrote on X/Twitter. “The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super Pac without any involvement or approval from my campaign. Fec rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff. I love you all. God bless you.”
Kennedy did pin the ad to his X/Twitter account, where it remains.
Bobby Shriver, Kennedy’s cousin, objected to the spot, writing that his mother Eunice “would be appalled by his deadly health care views.” Mark Shriver wrote that he agreed with that sentiment against the ad, and Maria Shriver retweeted her brother’s objections.

Campaigns are finalizing their buys of local political ad time during the biggest live event of the year: the Super Bowl.
A few examples: Nikki Haley’s campaign has contracts for time during the kickoff on CBS stations in Charleston and Columbia, as she seeks a better-than-expected showing in the South Carolina primary later this month, according to records filed with the FCC. In California, Adam Schiff and Katie Porter have spots to run in Los Angeles during network’s day-long coverage.
As in previously cycles, the primary season is taking place amid an early year calendar of major live sporting events as well as award shows, the latter of which was apparent last weekend, when Joe Biden’s presidential campaign bought up time in major battleground states during the Grammy Awards.
Other candidates, including Haley and congressional contenders, also bought time during the Grammys, which saw its ratings climb 34% to almost 17 million,...

On stage to a room full of enthusiastic supporters, Haley called Judy Sheindlin, whose daily courtroom show made her one of the most famous women on TV, a “trailblazer” who is “tough” and “speaks hard truths” and “doesn’t mince words.”
“I will tell you for all of those endorsements you talk about, those are the endorsements that matter, the ones where they’re going to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it, and they are going to tell you why, and it’s a combination of brains and heart,” Haley said.

Nikki Haley’s presidential race is entering the final days before the New Hampshire primary with some celebrity support: Judge Judy Sheindlin.
The Haley campaign said that Sheindlin, who announced her endorsement earlier this month, will join the candidate at a rally on Sunday in Exeter, Nh.
Haley posted about Sheindlin’s support on X/Twitter, writing, “Hard truths from Judge Judy.”
Sheindlin said, “Neither Biden nor Trump would know a Houthi from a salami unless someone whispered in their ear or spelled it out from them on a Teleprompter. We need a president like Haley who knows what’s happening — because that’s essential to knowing how to respond.”
Sheindlin produces and stars in Amazon Freevee’s Judy Justice and will headline Justice on Trial , a courtroom docudrama focusing on seminal cases.
Sheindlin backed Michael Bloomberg in his 2020 presidential bid, but otherwise said that she had stayed away from politics except to vote.

The Prince and Princess of Wales brought the royal flair to Black History Month as they paint Cardiff with a vibrant celebration, connecting with the Afro-Caribbean and African communities.
This year, the Royals celebrated 75 years since the iconic Hms Windrush docked in Tilbury, Essex, carrying Caribbean passengers who enriched Britain’s cultural tapestry.
They rubbed shoulders with the Windrush Cymru Elders, the Ethnic Minority Youth Forum, and the Black History Cymru 365 dynamic team. The energy was off the charts as Somali residents shared their incredible stories, from kicking it on the football field to taking on youth unemployment.

Prince William is in New York City attending the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, where he was introduced by former NYC mayor Mike Bloomberg.
As People reports, in his remarks Bloomberg jestfully referenced a recent Gallup poll indicating that the Prince of Wales as one of America’s most popular and trusted public figures.
“The prince has clearly won over Americans of all stripes. These days, as we know, that is no small feat,” said Bloomberg.

“In fact, the poll also showed the prince is viewed positively by 60 per cent of Democrats and 60 per cent of republicans,” he continued.
“America has not seen that kind of bipartisan consensus since 1776,” he added, before dropping his Revolutionary War punchline: “But this time we’re all drinking to the King’s health.”

Lena Dunham attended the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party in London last night – and shocked fans with her unrecognizable appearance and new look.
She wore a black satin floor-length gown with an equally long gold satin sash draped around her neck. As an accessory, she carried a handbag with a cookie printed on the front and wore gold heels to match her outfit.
She arrived at the event with fashion designer Carly Mark.
Earlier this year, the Catherine Called Birdy director celebrated five years of sobriety. In April, she posted a celebratory post and wrote, “The last 5 years have been the happiest of my time earth so far (at least this time around)!”
“They’ve been full of work, love, complexity and yes — pain,” she continued. “But facing all of that without medicating myself in unhealthy ways has given me a sturdy baseline and new tools.”

As soon as the Writers Guild announced its strike on May 2 over a failure to agree on a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued statements to make it clear the work stoppage was top of mind. “Los Angeles relies on a strong entertainment industry that is the envy of the world while putting Angelenos to work in good, middle-class jobs,” Bass said. “I encourage all sides to come together around an agreement that protects our signature industry and the families it supports.”
For his part, Newsom noted that “when called in by both sides we’ll intervene, to the extent both sides are willing and interested in that,” adding that the strike “has profound consequences direct and indirect.” (A week later, President Biden also weighed in, noting that he hoped “the writers are given...

Since 2006, the city of New York’s Made in NY Production Assistant Training Program has been an onramp to successful careers in TV and film production open to low-income New Yorkers across the five boroughs. A new study has measured the long-term return on that investment for the more than 1,100 people who have gone through the four-week program over the past 16 years.
The study, commissioned by Brooklyn Workforce Innovations and Bloomberg Philanthropies, measured the impact of training program, which is a highly competitive intensive offered yearly to about 80 New Yorkers each year since its inception. The training program was birthed during Michael Bloomberg’s mayoral administration. Bloomberg Philanthropies has kept a close watch on it since the billionaire investor left office in 2013.

Necropolitics and trans poetics never quite become one in Zackary Drucker and Kristen Lovell’s The Stroll, which recounts the history of the titular area of New York’s Meatpacking District where trans women went to make a living as sex workers between the 1970s and ‘90s. The documentary’s activist ethos takes up all of its space, and while Drucker and Lovell attest to the resilience of trans women in the face of relentless violence, they unfortunately opt for the most formulaic kind of visual storytelling. Which makes it difficult for ambiguity, the very stuff that desire is made of, to ever creep into the mix.
Apart from a few animated sequences dramatizing a predictable pattern of trans living that begins with a sex worker’s police arrest and ends with her returning to the streets, the film’s stylistic commitment is rooted in an apparent will to pass for routine streaming fare.

The devolution of Tom Sandoval from heel to arch-villain is one of the more compelling arcs in the history of reality television. When he wasn’t flat-ironing his hair, getting dog-walked by Kristen Doute, or slinging drinks at Sur, the emo man-child served as the meek foil to alpha dog — and self-described “Number one guy in the group” — Jax Taylor. Then, in the words of his ex, Ariana Madix, he “got a little bit of money, a little bar, a little band,” and transformed into a vainglorious, shouty creep with a foul mustache.

Journalist Alissa Quart’s new book, “Bootstrapped: Liberating Ourselves From the American Dream,” seeks to discover the origins of two important American myths: that of the self-made man and that of the “the undeserving poor.” What is behind our country’s relentless demand for lonesome achievement and personal responsibility? Quart calls “bootstrapping” — derived from the phrase “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” — a collective delusion, a fantasy of American prowess that we must somehow be entirely self-sufficient to succeed, and that, if we manage this, riches await. It’s the...

After every Sundance Film Festival, movie lovers everywhere are treated to a torrent of buzz about the premieres and come away with one overriding question — "when can I watch these movies?" Well, we now have at least one answer.
"A Thousand And One" will get a wide release in U.S. theaters on March 31, 2023, distributed by Focus Features. Directed by A.V. Rockwell, the film won the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival following its January 22 festival debut there.
The film focuses on a black single mother named Inez (Teyana Taylor), living in 1993 New York City. Barely making ends meet as a hairdresser after a stint in Rikers Island, her son Terry (Aaron Kingsley Adetola), is in foster care. When she asks Terry if he'd be happier with her and he answers yes, she kidnaps her own son, taking him back to Harlem. Since they're now fugitives, Terry gets the new name "Darryl,...

In the beginning of A Thousand and One, the New York City streets are alive, detailed and humming with swagger. It’s 1993 and Inez struts through Brooklyn after a five-year stint at Rikers Island, readjusting to the rhythms of freedom. The sun bakes the brownstones, hip-hop echoes around storefronts, and kids suck on ice pops––the kind of weather and atmosphere Samuel L. Jackson might be yammering about from his bedroom window. But there’s no time to waste. Inez is looking for Terry, the seven-year-old she left behind and hopes to reclaim.
To fulfill that desire, Inez makes a dangerous choice: she steals Terry from his foster family and shuttles him to Harlem, where she’ll knock on doors, scrape jobs together, and survive as a mother with him over the next decade. Anchored by a virtuoso performance from Teyana Taylor, director A.V. Rockwell’s ambitious, detailed, slightly underbaked...

There are two bruising lines that bookend first-time feature director A.V. Rockwell’s “A Thousand and One,” .
“There’s more to life than fucked-up beginnings,” Inez, a woman living life in New York on her own terms and brilliantly played by R&b super-artist/actress Teyana Taylor, tells her young son Terry (Aaron Kingsley Adetola). She has kidnapped him out of the foster care system, which has kept them separated after her stint in Rikers Island beginning in 1993, and now hopes to give him a better life. But at the end of the movie, after a decades-spanning, bittersweet bond forms and fizzles between them and shattering revelations are had, she tells the older Terry (Josiah Cross), “I fucked up. Life goes on. So what?”
Rockwell’s direction is sophisticated and visually imaginative even as the movie could benefit from a tighter edit around its New York cast of characters and...

You’d never know it from the sleek glass Apple store and velvet rope hotel clubs that stand there now, but New York’s Meatpacking District was once a hub for Black and brown trans women to earn an honest living. Even if you know your history, it can be hard to conjure an image of fabulous heeled goddesses walking the cobblestone streets now littered with luxury retail stores. For the ones who lived it, the experience is even more disorienting. That’s one of the bittersweet revelations present in “The Stroll,” a hauntingly poignant documentary that attempts to excavate and preserve that fractured history — while those who lived it are still here.
Directed by Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker, “The Stroll” is The film takes its title from the block of 14th street between Ninth Avenue and the Hudson River where many once found their trade, which the gals called The Stroll.

“I am my own liberation,” declares one of the participants in “The Stroll,” and the same could be said for everyone in this moving documentary — especially co-director Kristen Lovell, who was inspired by her own life to memorialize a time, place and experience that has been forgotten at best and vilified at worst.
If your primary images of New York’s Meatpacking District come from “Sex and the City” or shopping trips, you may not remember the neighborhood around West 14th Street before gentrification. As a longtime resident explains, “The S&m bars, the hookers, the meatpackers. That’s what was down here.” Yes, it really was home to meatpacking plants by day, before sex workers took over at night. Many of the latter were trans women of color, and these are the women Lovell and co-director Zackary Drucker (“The Lady and the Dale”) aim to honor.

It had been seven years since Last Week Tonight first devoted its main story to transgender rights. And so the show focused on trans rights again. After showing some clips of smug Republican politicians and political operatives sarcastically telling audiences that their pronouns are things like “patriot,” “USA,” and “ass kicker,...

Thomas Webster, a former NYPD officer who was photographed attacking a Washington, D.C. police officer with a flagpole at the January 6 riots, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
He attempted to deny the claim that he instigated the fight, but the jury ruled that he lied on the stand in May when he said he just wanted the officer to “see my hands” after tackling him.
Webster’s legal team also claimed that he was participating in the violent uprising because of Ptsd “flashbacks” from his career in the police.
However, Judge Amit P. Mehta said he felt that Webster’s former career made the attack “particularly heinous.”
“He feels entitled to do what he wants as a former police officer,” Mehta later added.
The judge also suggested that Webster’s violent behavior caused a domino effect of increased chaos at the Capitol. Webster reportedly broke the police...

News junkies this week are agitated over the disappearance of CNN’s Reliable Sources, but cable news network chiefs have a deeper concern: the disappearance of reliable anchors.
Ratings of news shows continue to plunge as programmers struggle to figure out what sort of host (and ideology) would appeal to their once formidable audiences. Power players like John Malone have proposed that viewers might welcome a return to centrist personalities rather than shrill advocates like Sean Hannity.
Skeptics counter that there is no “middle” in America anymore: Witness the list of missing hosts like Brian Williams, Chris Wallace or Chris Cuomo. Or Brian Stelter, the abrupt, speed-talking host of Reliable Sources, who tried to find fragments of truth amid the rhetorical debris.
Centrist personalities like Michael Bloomberg increasingly find themselves drawn into firestorms like Florida’s “Stop Woke Act”; witness his fiery attack of Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Wall Street Journal‘s op-ed pages.
