Forty-six years after publication, Stephen King’s Children of the Corn has become a B-horror institution. The short story, which first ran in a 1977 issue of Penthouse, follows a bickering couple who run afoul of a murderous cult of corn-worshiping children on a back road in Nebraska. A bleak example of horror in the daylight, the original text plays out like the bastard child of The Wicker Man and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. A 1984 film adaptation adds a sunnier tone while kicking off the story with a brutal massacre in which the children of Gatlin murder their parents. But this jarring tone is not the strangest thing to happen in the corn.
The franchise’s eleven entries are a cinematic cornucopia of ludicrous scenes and sequences. The following is a list of the most bonkers moments in the Children of the Corn series.

At the end of June, the singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen announced plans for a new album titled Lover. “This record is deeply personal,” he said in a statement. “It’s about love, it’s about failure, it’s about drugs, it’s about sex, it’s about age, it’s about regret, it’s about itself (very meta, I know) and it’s about finding peace.”
But peace proved temporarily elusive. That’s because earlier in June, Taylor Swift had already announced the release of her own new album, also titled Lover.

On Saturday, August 3rd, the tenth annual Apollo in the Hamptons was held at the East Hampton home of Apollo Vice Chairman, Ronald O. Perelman to benefit the non-profit Apollo Theater.
This year’s event raised millions of dollars to support the Apollo’s artistic, educational, and outreach programs, while building on the Theater’s rich history as a cultural and economic anchor to Harlem, and as a nurturer of emerging talent.
Since its inception in 2010, Apollo in the Hamptons has raised nearly $30 million for the Apollo’s artistic, education and community programs. Thanks to the support from this event, the institution has expanded its education initiatives, both in schools and at the historic Apollo Theater, engaging more than 20,000 students, teachers, families, and scholars annually. The Theater has been able to double its impact, now welcoming more than 200,000 patrons each year.

Back in 1961 he ruled the airwaves with his legendary hit “Stand By Me” and sadly Ben E. King passed away on Thursday (April 30).
The 76-year-old crooner began his career as a member of The Drifters and scored success with songs like “Save the Last Dance For Me,” “This Magic Moment” and “There Goes My Baby.”
Following his recording heyday, King created the Stand By Me Foundation to improve the quality of life for people struggling with poverty, education, addiction and other serious issues.
King’s fellow musician and friend Gary U.S. Bonds posted a message on Facebook to mourn his loss- “With an extremely heavy heart, I must say goodbye to one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years. Speaking for myself, my family & my Roadhouse Rockers family, I can tell you that Ben E.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco and Jeff Beck round out list of five former Grammy winners competing in hotly contested category.

Five disparate discs will go head to head in the Best Rock Album category during Sunday's 54th Grammy Awards (or, probably, during the pre-televised ceremony), which is a pretty apt way to sum up a year when the Decemberists topped the Billboard charts and the best-selling rock record — Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More — was actually released in 2010. In short, 2011 didn't make a whole lot of sense.
So we suppose it's even more fitting that neither the Decemberists nor Mumford are actually nominated for Best Rock Album at this year's Grammys. Instead, it's the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon, Wilco and Jeff Beck who will duke it out for the golden gramophone — and really,...

Tonight I find myself tending to agree with all sorts of Fox-y people with whom I otherwise have very little in common about National Public Radio's sudden firing of Juan Williams. I am not a dedicated Juanhead nor any friend of Bill O'Reilly, but in this instance it seems like NPR played politically correct bully at least as much as Williams played politically incorrect bully. It now sounds like Williams will profit handsomely from NPR's rush to judgment, but that doesn't make it right -- even for a PC liberal like me. Take This Job And Shove It - Johnny Paycheck High & Dry - Radiohead Fired - Ben Folds Out Of Work - Gary U.S. Bonds Radio, Radio - Elvis Costello & The Attractions On The Radio - Donna Summer Trouble - Lindsay Buckingham That's A Lie - TV on the Radio Radioactive - Kings of Leon My Big...

Yes, We Could. That's what we learned at this year's Super Bowl -- that and the fact that the great Roger Daltrey is increasingly beginning to resemble the lovely Dyan Cannon. Here is one winning playlist for the New Orleans Saints who showed guts and grace as they triumphed over the Colts. Please add your own musical flavors to this celebratory gumbo: New Orleans Stomp - Louis Armstrong New Orleans - Gary U.S. Bonds I Wish I Was In New Orleans (In The Ninth Ward) - Tom Waits The Saints Are Coming - U2 & Green Day When The Saints Go Marching In - Rebirth Brass Band New Orleans - Cowboy Mouth Louisiana - Randy Newman The Battle Of New Orleans - Johnny Horton City Of New Orleans - Steve Goodman Mardi Gras In New Orleans - Fats Domino Goin' Back To New Orleans - Dr. John New Orleans Stunna - Juvenile New.

Scholars from around the world are dissecting the Springsteen legend this weekend in New Jersey. "Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Symposium" continues through Sunday at Monmouth University. The no-holds-barred intellectual romp, coinciding with Springsteen's 60th birthday, was organized by Virginia Tech and Penn State Altoona. And yes, the scholars do get the comedic irony of studying a man who "learned more from a three-minute record than he ever learned from school."The festivities include several pilgrimages to the landmark Stone Pony nightclub, down the road in Asbury Park, N.J.Educators spent Friday night singing, hollering and chanting a curse phrase at the impish urging of rock pioneer Gary U.S. Bonds, whose performance brought the house down. Springsteen resurrected Bonds' career in the '80s by writing his comeback hit, "This Little Girl."Professors, many of them veterans of dozens of concerts . one...

Straight up now: I've known and liked Paula Abdul since way back last century when she was making MTV videos with animated co-stars like Mc Skat Kat and Keanu Reeves. So let me simply say this about that lady: Paula is always interesting, and her presence as a constant if wonderfully unstable element has helped make American Idol the remarkable phenomenon that it's become. I heard the news today, oh boy. So here's my loving playlist for a woman who is very beautiful, consistently intriguing and occasionally crazy -- even if she can get a little pitchy sometimes. "Bad Day" - Daniel Powter "Take This Job And Shove It" - Johnny Paycheck "Coldhearted" - Paula Abdul "American Woman" - Guess Who "I Can't Quit You Babe" - Led Zeppelin "Get Back"- The Beatles "Out Of Work" - Gary U.S. Bonds "Good Morning Judge" - 10Cc "Fired" - Ben...

The story goes that one night a couple of Jersey musicians by the name of Springsteen and Van Zandt wandered into an oldies gig at a rundown bar in 1980. Onstage was one Gary Anderson, who had racked up quite a few top ten hits in the 60’s under the name Gary U.S. Bonds, but had pretty much been written off in a music business climate that had no mercy for anyone over the age of 28 years old. As luck would have it, Bruce Springsteen was about to have his first Top Ten hit single, “Hungry Heart,” from a double album – The River – that did extremely well in the marketplace. He was beginning to exhibit early signs of supernova fame (which would come to full fruition about five years later). Hence, he and bandmate/collaborator/partner in crime Steven Van...
