We love the "Mission: Impossible" movies, don't we folks? These globe-trotting, death-defying adventures get bigger and better with each installment. At the center of each entry is Ethan Hunt, played by stuntman/actor Tom Cruise. Ethan is our guide into the world of the Imf and their various missions, but he can't do it all by himself. He has a team to back him up, and while the team has changed over the years, there's a core group that stays the same.
There's Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, a hacker turned Imf agent. There's Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, who started off working in a lab and eventually became a field agent. Then there's Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a former MI6 agent who has more or less joined the Imf due to her friendship with Ethan. There are more team members scattered over the various films, but this is the core group,...

We all know that Mission: Impossible is about Ethan Hunt, the living manifestation of destiny. With mega-star Tom Cruise in the role, the character of Hunt became more important to the franchise than any of the leads of the original series, Jim Phelps, Dan Briggs (Steven Hill), or Cinnamon Carter (Barbara Bain). But for a little while, producers considered phasing Hunt out of the series, making him the new secretary of the Impossible Mission Force while Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt became the new team leader.
Those plans changed midway through the production of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol when Christopher McQuarrie came in to finish a script started by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. Although director Brad Bird had already started shooting scenes for Ghost Protocol, McQuarrie successfully argued that Hunt should remain the focus and could not be replaced.
This behind-the-scenes tension added a spark of electricity between Brandt and Hunt on screen.

With the seventh “Mission: Impossible” blasting into theaters July 12 with “Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” there’s no better time to catch up on the previous entries in the adrenaline-pumping franchise. Based on the 1966 television series of the same name, the films star Tom Cruise as Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt. Since investigating the mysterious murders of (almost) his entire team back in 1996, Hunt (and Cruise) has certainly been through the wringer ever since, climbing skyscrapers, clinging to the outside of planes, and flying helicopters all in the name of completing his missions and thrilling the audience.
As we eagerly anticipate the impossible missions and death-defying stunts that await Cruise in “Dead Reckoning,” we’ve pulled together a list of streamers where you can find all six of the existing “Mission: Impossible” installments. Or, if you aren’t keen on purchasing another streaming subscription or watching ads, they...

Don’t worry; this message will not self-destruct. Tom Cruise is flying high following the box office haul of Top Gun: Maverick this summer. And next year, Cruise will look to unseat his now highest domestic earner with the next installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. While Top Gun: Maverick was a triumphant return to mega-star status, cashing in on the legacy sequel trend with a lean, effective script and dazzling practical stunts, it can be argued that Cruise’s recent M:i films laid the groundwork with audiences.
It’s easy to forget, but the mid-2000s were a lean period for Cruise’s stardom. The actor’s involvement with Scientology and subsequent bizarre media appearances led to the end of a 14-year relationship between Cruise and Paramount Pictures. There was a time almost a decade ago when Jeremy Renner was reportedly being positioned as the Mission: Impossible franchise’s new leading man. His stock was riding high following his critically-acclaimed performances in The Hurt Locker and The Town that saw him land consecutive Academy Award nominations, and it seemed as though he was going to break out as Hollywood’s next A-list superstar.
Obviously that never happened though, with Brad Bird’s Ghost Protocol acting as something of a soft reboot for Mission: Impossible instead, with star Tom Cruise’s death-defying antics stealing the headlines and Renner shunted back into a supporting role. Then, as the franchise moved from strength to strength in follow-ups Rogue Nation and Fallout, with the action-packed blockbusters primarily marketed on whatever insane stunt Cruise would perform next, Renner virtually disappeared from the series altogether. But it seems he could be making a return soon.

As awesome as Mission: Impossible - Fallout was, I couldn't help but wonder why they didn't bring Jeremy Renner back to reprise his role of William Brandt. Well, it turns out that they did ask him to be a part of it, but he chose not to accept the mission.
Director Christopher McQuarrie says that he offered him a small, but crucial role in the film. The opening sequence of the film would have seen Brandt sacrifice himself to save the team. Yep, they were going to kill the character off and I guess Renner didn't think it was worth it. While talking to Empire, McQuarrie explained:
"Jeremy had his commitment to Avengers, which ironically they ended up not exercising . . . So I said to Renner, ‘Hey listen, I have this idea for an opening sequence where you sacrifice yourself to save the team, and that the mission-gone-wrong not only involves losing the plutonium,...

Editor’s note: This post contains some spoilers for “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”
It’s a primary principle for any spy, even the ones in movies: Never get too close to anyone, lest they be used against you. For the first two films in the “Mission: Impossible” movie franchise, Imf agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) didn’t seem to have much trouble abiding by that concept. The super spy had compatriots (like long-time co-star Ving Rhames) and vague love interests, and his care for them often blindsided him (remember when Béart’s Claire Phelps double-crossed him?), but he was a trained professional who moved on once the bullets stopped flying.

Our mission — and we decided to accept it — is to rank from least to best all six of the “Mission: Impossible” thrillers toplined by Tom Cruise as Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt.
6. Mission: Impossible III (2006)
The Pitch: When he isn’t busy wooing, and eventually wedding, Julia Meade (Michelle Monaghan), a nurse who knows nothing about his spy-guy activities, Ethan Hunt leads his Imf team in pursuit of a MacGuffinish device (known as “Rabbit’s Foot”) coveted by arms dealer Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman).
The Rundown: Despite the game efforts of director J.J. Abrams to humanize Phelps by supplying a civilian romantic interest — and showing he’s not so ruthless that he’d make good on his threat to drop an uncooperative bad guy out of an airplane — the threepeat is a curiously bland spectacle that is nothing more than the sum of its sporadically exciting action set pieces.

Say what you will about Tom Cruise as a person but as an actor and producer, he is one of the strongest performers in Hollywood. For the last 19 years, he has been responsible for Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible franchise and has turned it into a goldmine. The fifth installment, Rogue Nation, arrives tomorrow in a combo pack from Paramount Home Entertainment just as people worry about the granddaddy of espionage franchises, James Bond.
I was not alone in feeling disappointed by Spectre, a lax story, a waste of Monica Bellucci, and boring set pieces. In comparison, the three major action sequences in Rogue Nation are fresher, more exciting, and still works on repeated watching.

Tom Cruise reprises his role of agent Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible sequel, Rogue Nation, this summer, and we couldn't be more stoked. Especially with the film's newly-announced premise.
The Impossible Missions Force (or Imf for short) are up against their “evil twin,” a rogue group of special agents and assassins that do for the bad guys what Hunt, William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) have been doing for years.
Will the Imf be able to shut down the rogue Syndicate before the Imf are taken out? We’ll have to wait until July 31 to see.
In the meantime, check out the first poster and trailer for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation below! There’s enough Simon Pegg affability to hold you over until the summer.

Jeremy Renner has, almost by accident, turned into a bit of a franchise slut. Not only does he play Hawkeye in Marvel.s The Avengers, but he also took over from Matt Damon as the lead in The Bourne Legacy, appeared as the titular male star in 2013.s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, and is now part of the Mission: Impossible ensemble thanks to his turn as William Brandt opposite Tom Cruise.s Ethan Hunt in 2011.s Ghost Protocol. That.s quite a lot characters and work for an actor to keep track of, and during a rather frank and turbulent discussion with MTV, Renner went to great lengths to describe how his life got so cluttered. Apparently, we can blame Tom Cruise's persistence. Renner put pen to paper on his deal to appear as Hawkeye "a good year" before filming was due to start on The Avengers. So as...

Believe it or not, it was a full 18 years ago that the big screen Mission: Impossible franchise got underway. It was all the way back in 1996 that director Brian De Palma first introduced us Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt and Ving Rhames' Luther Stickell, and the characters have been come back again and again in the years since. And while Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol kind of shortchanged us on the Ethan/Luther relationship, the good news is that problem is going to be repaired in Christopher McQuarrie's upcoming Mission: Impossible 5, as previewed in the special Tweet below. Remember Sean Harris in Prometheusc He was Fifield, the scientist who gets infected and returns back to the ship (see here). Since then he has starred in "The Borgias", he was seen in Deliver Us from Evil and will be seen in '71 later this year, and now Deadline says he's been selected to play the lead villain in Mission: Impossible 5, though the site does say he's only been offered the role and they are currently negotiating the contract, so I guess it's not official-official just yet. Shooting on the film, however, is already underway as videos and pictures from the set have been running rampant online as Tom Cruise steps back into the shoes of Ethan Hunt, Simon Pegg is returning as tech guru Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames is back as Luther Stickell and Jeremy Renner reprising his role as William Brandt from Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Though his Luther Stickell only had a brief cameo appearance in 2011′s excellent Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Ving Rhames, who starred in the franchise’s first three entries alongside Tom Cruise, is apparently returning in a larger capacity for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5.
An expert computer hacker with the Imf, Stickell was last seen grabbing a drink with fellow Imf agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) after the central mission of Ghost Protocol. Though the character was never involved with that high-stakes mission to stop a nuclear attack on the United States, he did tell Ethan “see you in Kandahar” before departing, possibly setting up a storyline for Mission: Impossible 5. It’s been three years since Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol hit theaters, but Tom Cruise’s latest starring vehicle, sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow, was good enough that it actually got me thinking about the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5 for the first time in a good long while. Today, we’ve learned something about the upcoming fivequel that will no doubt excite the franchise’s British fans.
According to the sometimes-reliable British newspaper The Sun, Mission: Impossible 5 will be the first film that has ever been allowed to shoot scenes within the British Houses of Parliament. According to the newspaper:
“MI5 will feature numerous well-known locations in London but the Houses of Parliament is clearly the biggest coup. Tom Cruise will obviously feature heavily in the scenes. You can imagine the writers are excited about what stunts they could pull off inside the Commons.”

Alongside The Avengers and the next Bourne sequel, Renner included Mission: Impossible 5 as reasons why he’s unlikely to do True Detective:

We already know that Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg will return for "Mission: Impossible 5," and now comes word that Jeremy Renner will also reprise his role as William Brandt. When asked if he would be interested in starring in a second season of "True Detective," Renner said: "It's kind of unlikely. In fact, I'm kind of strapped time-wise doing 'Avengers 2,' and 'Mission: Impossible 5' is rearing its head, and then they want to do another 'Bourne' movie. It's unlikely I can find the time right now." "Mission: Impossible 5" will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow" and directed Cruise's "Jack Reacher." It's set to hit theaters on December 25th, 2015.

In an interview with Yahoo, Jeremy Renner confirms what we could have very easily assumed, that he will be returning as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible 5 for director Christopher McQuarrie with a script from Drew Pearce (Iron Man), which was then rewritten by Will Staples. For whatever reason the Yahoo interviewer asked Renner about the possibility of starring in "True Detective" to which he replied, "It's kind of unlikely. In fact, I'm kind of strapped time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie. It's unlikely I can find the time right now. And that's all right. It's just really high-class problems -- pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to do it, which I don't, I couldn't." Renner will next be see in Kill the Messenger later this year and it sounds like on top...

Jeremy Renner has revealed in a new interview that he's pretty much set to reprise his role of William Brandt in the upcoming fifth "Mission: Impossible" film.
Renner played the role in 2011's "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol," one of the four key team members in the film alongside Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton. Cruise and Pegg's return are already confirmed.
Renner, currently shooting "Avengers: Age of Ultron," was asked by Yahoo about the possibility of joining HBO's "True Detective" to which he responded that his busy movie schedule would prevent such an option:

We’ve had false readings of clues and a little jumping of the gun, but Christopher McQuarrie has now taken to Twitter to confirm he’s directing the next instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.McQuarrie has been the presumed choice to call the shots on Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)’s next adventure for a while now, though there has been no official announcement beyond the tweet. Presumably, this points to negotiations stretching out before a deal could be made.Mission: Accepted— ChristopherMcQuarrie (@chrismcquarrie) August 5, 2013Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce is aboard to write the script, and we expect him to be working closely with McQuarrie, who directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and has been the actor’s go-to script doctor for years.Nothing has been released about the potential plot or other casting, but we wouldn’t be surprised if M:i veterans Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg pop up...

After scripting the biggest hit of 2013, "Iron Man 3," it's no surprise that screenwriter Drew Pearce has moved on to a similarly big project. It's being reported that Pearce has signed on to pen the screenplay for the upcoming "Mission: Impossible" sequel "Mi5."
The Hollywood Reporter has the news, confirming that Paramount Pictures has hired Pearce to write the script. Tom Cruise is expected to both produce and star in the film once he's done with his next feature, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."
By the time Cruise is done with Guy Ritchie's "U.N.C.L.E.," "Mi5" should be ready for a fall filming start date. Story details of the next "Mission: Impossible" movie are being kept a secret, and it's unclear of Jeremy Renner will be reprising his role as William Brandt. Christopher McQuarrie is still in discussions to the direct the film, though he hasn't been locked down yet.

There's no such thing as impossible for international superstar Tom Cruise. It's been two years since we saw Cruise performing his own hair-raising stunts in "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," but it seems like just yesterday. Luckily, fans of agent Ethan Hunt won't have to wait much longer to catch up with his latest globe-trotting adventures. Cruise is in the middle of making a deal with Paramount to take on his fifth "Mission: Impossible," although the roles of writer and director are still up in the air. When "Ghost Protocol" came out, folks were wondering if co-star Jeremy Renner would take the reins from Cruise. It will be interesting to see if Renner will return for his role as fellow Imf agent William Brandt. The "Avengers" actor has had a few missteps in the past few years with "The Bourne Legacy" and the long-stalled "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" fantasy/action flick.

Talking at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour yesterday, Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams was quizzed on the current progress in the development of the next instalment in the Mission Impossible franchise after the success of Brad Bird's critically acclaimed Ghost Protocol back in 2011. "We’re working right now on getting a writer," he revealed. "We’re a minute away from being able to discuss that. We have a pretty cool general idea for where this thing is going to go. Tom [Cruise] and Bryan Burk and I couldn’t be more excited about it." As for whether or not we will see the return of any familiar faces other than Cruise (such as Jeremy Renner's 'William Brandt'), Abrams remained coy, but did promise that the film will be a spectacle. Moving on to the small screen, the director revealed that while he has...

Jeremy Renner has denied speculation that he will replace Tom Cruise as star of the Mission: Impossible franchise. The Hurt Locker actor appears alongside Cruise in Ghost Protocol, the fourth instalment of the series. Renner's character William Brandt has since been tipped to take over from Cruise's Ethan Hunt in future Mission: Impossible movies, but the 40-year-old insisted that there is no truth behind the claims. "I heard that. I hear lots of rumours," he told Reuters. "No, it's not true about Mission: Impossible. There's no taking over. It's not happening." (more)...

Costume designer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Michael Kaplan, talks us through his choices and intentions for clothing in the film. Prepare to be disappointed if you want Tom Cruise’s blue silk suit worn in Dubai; it was custom made by Mr. Kaplan himself. At least Cruise’s Persol sunglasses are available to buy, however.
Michael Kaplan is a powerhouse force in costume design. He is guaranteed to have worked on at least one Hollywood movie you fondly remember from the last twenty years or so. If in doubt consider he designed Samuel L. Jackson’s pimp ensembles for The Long Kiss Good Night (1996) and Randy Quaid’s bad taste brilliance as Cousin Eddie in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989). All of those beauteous stage outfits you saw in Burlesque?...

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton
Directed by Brad Bird
Rated PG-13
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is film that defies expectations. It’s a big-budget star vehicle for an actor who has mostly lost his star power. It’s directed by Brad Bird, who has previously only done animated films. But most of all, it’s the fourth film in a series and it is undeniably the best of all of them. How many times has that happened?
The plot revolves around Imf agent Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) attempts to capture Cobalt (Michael Nyqvist), a Russian-employed nuclear strategist who dreams of worldwide nuclear destruction and the human evolution that would result. We’re given the barest details of his motivations, probably because to focus more would just magnify how little sense they make. The situation escalates once Cobalt blows up the Moscow Kremlin, framing...

There’s very little reason to come out of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol doubting Brad Bird‘s skill as a live-action filmmaker. To date, of course, he’s known best for his Pixar contributions, which include the directorial oversight of The Incredibles and Ratatouille, but with the fourth installment of this Tom Cruise-headlined franchise, Bird proves just as adept at staging large-scale set pieces in physical locations. The difference, though, is that his two previous films both had the foundation of intelligent screenplays, while the written material for Ghost Protocol, co-penned by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, is just plain dumb.
“Hang on a second there,” you might say, “this movie isn’t supposed to be a smart actioner.” And I would agree with you (for the most part, because, at 133 minutes, the film outstays its welcome by at least 20, and there are one-too-many let’s-take-an-action-break-and-get-emotional monologues). But what...

The fourth film in the Mission Impossible action franchise offers up plenty of whooping, pulse-pounding cool, as it changes directors from Brian DePalma to John Woo to J.J. Abrams and now Brad Bird, best known for directing the toons Iron Giant and The Incredibles. In Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise’s mission really is impossible, at least by the laws of physics, but Bird ably adapts the unlimited physical boundaries of animation to his live-action debut and creates one eye -popping action sequence after another. Bird reveals just how much of a knack for visual storytelling he has and is a perfect match for big-scale live action, always finding just the right way to capture an exciting moment.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is a film with major thrills, a lackluster villain and a far greater attempt at laughs than any of its three predecessors. Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles), making his live-action directorial debut, has charged himself with a serious task as he pushes aside his animation chops, picks up large-format, 70mm IMAX cameras and tackles a globe-trotting plot that wows with spectacle but slightly underachieves on intrigue.
Without initial explanation as to what has occurred since Mission: Impossible III came to a close, Ghost Protocol opens with Impossible Mission Force (Imf) Agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) holed up in a Moscow prison, but he won't be there long. Sloshing through the sewers below is Agent Jane Carter (Paula Patton) and above ground is Mission: Impossible III tech guru Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), no longer strapped to a desk at headquarters, but now a field agent.

It is fair to say that, on paper, the fourth entry in the frustratingly inconsistent Mission: Impossible series has plenty of potential for failure, what with the director’s chair shifting once again, this time to inexperienced live-action helmer Brad Bird, whose credentials rest solely with three – admittedly highly-acclaimed – animated films (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille). Combine this with apparent studio apprehension at Tom Cruise’s commercial appeal after last year’s disappointing returns on his Summer vehicle Knight and Day – thus the cast’s beefing out with rising The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner – and you have plenty of ingredients for a well-intentioned misfire. That Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, is the best film of the bunch, then, comes as an especially joyous seasonal surprise, ticking all of the boxes that the previous films have at one time or another seemed to miss.

I admire Brad Bird! From .The Iron Giant. to .Ratatouille,. the director is a brilliant storyteller. This interview was done as a teaser interview prior to the release of .Mission Impossible . Ghost Protocol. aka .MI4.. We saw half-hour worth of clips, and from what I witnessed, this one will be a great .Mission Impossible. film!
In this interview, we talked about:
How can the fourth film of the franchise be different from the other .Mission Impossible. movies?
Jumping from the animated world to the live-action world . how did Bird fulfill such nearly impossible mission?
What was his first edict when he was offered .Mission Impossible 4?.
Shooting in IMAX
Working with Tom Cruise

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" wont be in theaters until December 21st and Jeremy Renner isn't too worried about it. Recently at a press junket I interviewed Jeremy in regards to his new role in this million dollar franchise. Jeremy plays agent William Brandt, a desk jockey with little field experience, or so we think who squares off with Ethan through the course of the film. At least that's the impression we get from the trailer. Instead of screening the film for the press we were treated to six scenes, approximately 30 minutes of the film in IMAX, which was impressive. When it comes to story line, well I'm pretty much in the dark too. Although the IMAX scenes were incredible and well executed, it's almost the only way to see this film. I spoke to Jeremy about entering this franchise, doing stunt work, how life has changes since "The Hurt Locker...
