“Hacks” is back on Max for Season 3 on May 2, and the streaming service released a new trailer for the Emmy-winning comedy on Tuesday.
In Season 3, Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) reunites with Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) after Deborah fired her at the end of Season 2 so Ava could pursue her own dreams. Now, after months apart, they’re both at different places in their careers – with the success of her special, Deborah is back on top, while Ava has enough self-respect to demand that Deborah not make fun of her appearance (yeah right) – and they’re going to try to take advantage of their momentum. “Anything I want to do, I have to do them now,” Deborah tells Ava. She has to strike while the curling iron is hot.

‘Hacks’ stars and producers prep for show’s overdue Season 3 return by defending why women are funny
At last, our long national nightmare is nearly over.
It only seems like the much-decorated Max comedy “Hacks” has been away forever. It’s actually been less than two years. Overcoming strikes by writers and actors and a health crisis involving star Jean Smart – who won the Emmy for Best Comedy Actress in each of the show’s first pair of seasons – the series returns for Season 3 on May 2. The streamer will roll out two episodes on May 2, 9, 16 and 23 before running the finale of the nine-episode season on May 30.
“Hacks” was something of an Emmy juggernaut in 2021 and 2022 before going Awol due to a 10-month production delay in 2023. It earned 15 nominations in its first season and 17 in its second. It converted six of those 32 nominations (which included a pair of Best Comedy series bids) to wins, including the two for Smart as well as for the show’s writing and directing.

J. Smith-Cameron, the actress best known for her two-time Emmy-nominated performance as acid-tongued general counsel Gerri Kellman on “Succession,” is joining the cast of “Hacks” Season 3 as a recurring guest star, Variety reports.

When the nominations for the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are announced in January, there appear to be four locks in the best ensemble category. “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things” currently lead the Gold Derby odds, with “The Color Purple” next in line. It’s quite possible that these five casts are the ones that will ultimately be chosen by the SAG Awards. However, there’s another film steadily hovering in sixth place. And it’s one that we should not ignore.
Here are five reasons why Amazon Studios’ “Air” might make its way into the guild’s best ensemble playoff.
1. It has the fab four making up its core.
Matt Damon. Ben Affleck. Jason Bateman. And, of course, Viola Davis. Those are huge names in the acting industry, and the fusion of the four may prove irresistible to the guild’s nominating committee.

It’s Day 4 of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Day 77 of the WGA strike.
“Discover the past, live the present and fight the future,” was an apt message from The X-Files‘ 1998 spinoff movie and it’s one that could be applied to the current actors and writers strike.
It seems timely, then, that some of those responsible for writing and starring in the long-running sci-fi hit, were outside Fox as part of an X-Files reunion.
Star David Duchovny told Deadline that there are so many issues to try and get through, particularly AI. “I think the powers that be have a lot on their plate right now with trying to figure out, kicking the can down the road with the AI stuff. What is it capable of? They’re philosophical questions,” he said.
Duchovny also highlighted streaming residuals. “We always worked in a business that rewarded success and didn’t want failure.

“I’ve been searching for roles like this,” said actress Bel Powley about the character she plays in “A Small Light.” Part of what excited her about the limited series was that generally “people aren’t making shows about women like Miep.” She discussed the project on April 25 at the New York City premiere during a panel moderated by Dan Bucatinsky. Watch the entire panel above.
“A Small Light” tells a familiar story from a different perspective. It’s about Anne Frank‘s family hiding from the Nazis during World War II, but it’s told from the point of view of Miep Gies, Otto Frank‘s secretary who is one of the brave individuals who agrees to harbor the family. Powley actually shies away from period pieces most of the time, but “I immediately felt connected to this character,” noting that Miep was “an incredibly modern woman.”

Lisa Kudrow and long-time producing partner Dan Bucatinsky reenacted a classic scene from the second season of The Comeback after the actors noticed they were in a trailer similar to the one they worked on in the HBO comedy.
“I’m in a trailer with…,” Kudrow says in a video she shared on Instagram before panning over to a happy Bucatinsky waving at the camera.
Kudrow added, “Dan just realized this trailer is the same exact configuration from… this scene.”
Bucatinsky said that “it might be even the same trailer” used in the mockumentary before reenacting the scene.
The scene was when Bucatinsky’s Billy Stanton comes into Valerie’s trailer fuming because she’s about to drop him. Before Valerie could say a word, he decides to quit, throws his phone and stormed off.

The story of how that happened is now coming to life in a new movie, directed by Ben Affleck, titled "Air." Affleck also stars as Nike cofounder Phil Knight, with his best friend Matt Damon playing marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro and newly minted Egot winner Viola Davis portraying Michael's mother, Deloris Jordan.
"Air" comes from Amazon Studios and is getting a worldwide release this spring. According to Amazon, "'Air' reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike's fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand." They describe Knight, Vaccaro, and the rest...

Exclusive: CBS is developing She Gets It From Me, a semi-autobiographical single-camera comedy from Emmy winner Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) inspired by his journey as an adoptive parent. He is joined on the project by Cristela Alonzo (Cristela) who is set to star and will co-write and executive produce with Bucatinsky. The intention is for Bucatinsky to also star but there is no acting deal for him at this time, we hear. Jennifer Lopez’ Nuyorican and Ryan Seacrest Prods. are producing for ABC Signature.
She Gets It From Me centers on what happens when the teenaged, adopted daughter of two hyper-devoted, straight-laced, suburban gay dads seeks out a relationship with her uniquely bold, take-no-prisoners, Latin birth mom (Alonzo). The series examines a contemporary blended family, a poignant and hilarious exploration of the shot-gun marriage of not only the birth mom and the adoptive parents, but also the complications and joys of blending both of their big,...

Exclusive: Who Do You Think You Are?, the rebooted genealogy docuseries, is the latest unscripted series to find itself in limbo.
Deadline understands that the network has parked the show, which returned in July after nearly 10 years after it first aired on NBC, with no current plans for a second season. A final decision is expected to come in early 2023.
The show comes from exec producers Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky.
It follows an increasing trend in non-scripted television where shows aren’t officially canceled but rather shelved with no plans to return. Unlike scripted shows, which require options with cast, many networks no longer feel the need to immediately cancel non-scripted series outright as they could potentially bring them back down the line as Fox did with dance format So You Think You Can Dance, which returned after three years off air.

If you watched the return of Who Do You Think You Are?, those behind it are recognizable to TV fans: Dan Bucatinsky and Lisa Kudrow, who have worked together on and off screen for some time now. While talking to Bucatinsky about bringing the docuseries back now, TV Insider also had him look back on a couple of his memorable roles (Scandal!), discuss working with Kudrow, and address whether or not he could return to A Million Little Things after guest starring last season. James’ death is still one of the hardest to take on Scandal. Dan Bucatinsky: It wasn’t an easy one to take even behind the scenes. [Laughs] But it certainly made for good television and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Getting to play him was such a gift, I have no regrets. Speaking of that, when you look back at Scandal and James now,...

He’ll play Harrison, Gary’s (James Roday Rodriguez) hospital roommate, who is a big fan of Maggie’s (Allison Miller) radio show. Check out a first look at Bucatinsky with Gary and Maggie in the photos above and below. ABC “It’s amazing. We know about 147 people in common, and we’ve been fans of each other’s work for a while. Joanne Kerns, our producing director, has worked with him a lot, and when the part came up, she immediately suggested him. I was like, ‘Oh, that would be incredible,'” Nash, who wrote the episode with Michelle Leibel, tells us. “He and I got on the phone and were joking around immediately.
