The latest mid-season update for Apex Legends has just gone live and, instead of focusing on discussing the major gameplay adjustments being made to the battle royale’s Evo Armor, some fans have taken to criticizing what should otherwise be a welcome byline.
For those in need of context, it emerged recently that a voice interaction between Caustic and Crypto – in which the former refers to the latter as a “rat” – had the potential to be interpreted as a racial slur against Asians. Responsible for the line’s inclusion, writer Tom Casiello immediately recognized the dialogue’s connotations, stressing that while the line didn’t set off any alarm bells during the writing process among colleagues and friends, agreed that removing the offending content would be for the best. Some players, on the other hand, disagree with logic and believe the change is yet another example of censorship.

Clearly with far too much time on their hands and unable to conceive of anything productive, some Apex Legends players have resorted to criticizing the battle royale for non-issues. Because the addition of two female characters in a row is simply too much femininity to handle for the vocal minority, developer Respawn Entertainment has found itself addressing such ridiculous complaints over on Twitter, dismissing them as exactly what they are – petulant.
Following a now-deleted post from one ‘fan’ stating, “I didn’t know I was playing a feminist game… Might as well just put a pink dress on Revenant,” other, more level-headed users quickly came to Respawn’s defence. Apex design director Jason McCord eventually joined the conversation and recalled a brief discussion that took place between his colleagues on the subject.
We actually had a very short conversation about this…

An often overlooked Apex Legends character is due to finally get the spotlight in a future season, it would seem.
Anita Williams, or Bangalore, as she’s more widely known, has flown under the radar ever since the battle royale’s launch last year in regards to story development, with the likes of Bloodhound, Wraith and Crypto largely getting the lion’s share of attention. It’s the latter of those three, in fact, that recently got their own Town Takeover event in Kings Canyon, but we’ve yet to see any such occasion for Apex’s so-called Professional Soldier.
Thanks to a recent exchange between player and creator over on Twitter, however, it looks like that’s all about to change in the weeks and months ahead. Replying to one fan’s query of whether Bangalore will receive more lore development anytime soon, Apex Legends writer Tom Casiello responded...
