The Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will conclude its run this spring.
The production, which is currently starring Aaron Tveit (Moulin Rouge!, Fox’s Grease: Live) as Sweeney Todd and Sutton Foster (Younger, The Music Man) as Mrs. Lovett, will close on May 5, as the two leads end their 12-week run in the show.
The musical, directed by Thomas Kail, began performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Feb. 26, 2023, and opened on March 26, with Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford in the starring roles. The production was originally meant to end in January 2024, at the end of their run, according to a spokesperson for the production, but was extended with the casting of Tveit and Foster.
The revival of Stephen Sondheim musical has done well at the box office, particularly with Groban and Ashford in the lead roles, when it often brought in close to $2 million per week,...

“Just think,” Sir Lancelot (Taran Killam) muses as he celebrates his gay wedding at the end of Monty Python’s Spamalot. “In a thousand-and-eighteen years time, this will still be controversial.” Killam puts special emphasis on the “eighteen,” an addition to the script that nods to the supposed ways in which Spamalot remains relevant nearly two decades after the Tony-winning musical adaptation of Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam’s 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail tore up the 2004-2005 Broadway season.
The construction of the joke suggests that not much has changed—either for good or ill—in the past decades. That’s hardly true, because when Hank Azaria delivered the punchline in 2005, gay marriage wouldn’t be legalized in New York State for another six years. It’s surprising how much of Spamalot’s humor, especially the gay jokes, now feels rooted in an earlier time. Even peppered...

Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt are setting the record straight about the origins of "Ted Lasso." During a cast panel with Variety in celebration of the hit Apple TV+ show's third season, the show's co-creators were asked about the origin of the Ted Lasso character, and had a surprising answer.
Moderator and Actors on Actors host Jenelle Riley opened up the panel by asking about the inception of "Ted Lasso" as a character, referencing a story that's apparently been floating around the internet about co-creators and stars Brendan Hunt and Jason Sudeikis incorporating the character into sketch comedy early in their careers. "It's not true!" Sudeikis declared, before setting the record straight about exactly how the pair's early days working together at a theater in Amsterdam related to their eventual creation of the mustachioed Midwestern football coach.

Ahead of the 75th Tony Awards, which will be held at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter gathered five of this Broadway season’s acting nominees for a conversation about the challenges and rewards of working on Broadway, generally, and specifically this season, in the middle of a global pandemic.
Two already have Tonys to their name: Australian Hugh Jackman, a best actor in a musical nominee for The Music Man, in which he plays a conman who brings trouble to small-town Iowa (the Hollywood A-lister, who played Wolverine in the X-Men film franchise, previously won for the musical The Boy from Oz in 2004 and received a special Tony in 2012); and American Mary-Louise Parker, a best actress in a play nominee for How I Learned to Drive, in which she plays a woman recounting childhood molestation at the hands of...
