The sixth edition of the Les Arcs European Film Festival turned its focus on Ireland with an aim to celebrate its cinematic beauty and history, and in turn, its filmic opportunities.
While the festival’s co-founders Guillaume Calop and Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin mentioned in an opening statement that this year had seen a persistent crisis within the European Union (EU) and a loss of confidence in its benefits, Geraldine Byrne Nason (Ambassador of Ireland to France) commented that “things were looking up for Ireland, and that the festival had clearly captured the essence of arts and culture that is very important for the EU.”
The festival’s ‘Irish Focus’ programming included 14 films, including older favourites such as John Crowley’s Intermission, Jim Sheridan’s In the Name of the Father and Neil Jordan’s Michael Collins to more recent movies like John Carney’s Once, Alicia Duffy’s [link...

Whether you are a filmmaker, or one of the Sundance programmers whose task it is to identify the films that make up a line-up, it is indeed the most wonderful, panic-filled and nerve racking time of the year. The 31st edition of the Sundance Film Festival kicks off on January 22nd with Park City and Salt Lake City playing host to some of the more innovative, thought-provoking narrative and non-fiction films of 2015. Fund awards a total of $8.3m to new titles from Susanne Bier, Miguel Gomes and Yorgos Lanthimos among others.
The Board of Management of the Council of Europe’s Eurimages Fund has agreed to support 20 projects of feature films, animations and documentaries for a total amount of $8.3m (€6.1m). The meeting ran from Oct 15-17 inVilnius.

Berlinale Co-Production Market
Thirty-eight film projects from twenty-five countries have been selected for the eighth Berlinale Co-Production Market which will run from February 13 to 15, 2011. The producers and directors of these projects will meet with 450 potential co-production and financing partners during the event. No Indian project has found a place in the 38 projects that have been chosen out of 352 entries.
Three projects have also been chosen for the “Rotterdam-Berlinale Express”, in collaboration with CineMart Rotterdam. These projects will participate in both the CineMart and the Berlinale Co-Production Market.
In cooperation with the Berlinale Talent Campus, eleven projects by newcomers have been selected from 270 additional entries for the “Talent Project Market”.

PARIS -- This year's jury for the Camera d'Or -- the prize given to the film voted the best across all sections at the Festival de Cannes -- will be headed by actor-director Tim Roth, organizers said Thursday. The jury comprises French director Anne Theron, chosen to represent the French Society of Film Directors (SRF), which runs the Directors' Fortnight Cannes sidebar; French cinematographer Alain Choquart, who will represent the French cinematographers' association AFC; Italian critic Aldo Tassone, on behalf of the French Critics' Assn., which organizes the International Critics' Week sidebar; and Isabelle Frilley, head of French subtitling company Titra Films, who will represent FICAM, the umbrella organization of French production and postproduction facilities.
