In the comedy Arthur’s Whiskey, Diane Keaton finds the secret of eternal youth and shares it with her friends.
The film follows Joan who, after her husband dies, is shocked to discover he had invented an elixir that makes the drinker look young again. Sharing it with her two friends, the three women paint the town red but soon discover that they are no longer equipped to be young in the modern world.
The first-look image sees the film’s stars — Keaton, Patricia Hodge, and Scottish performer Lulu — walking arm-in-arm. Keaton is in a classic Keaton ensemble of a big hat, belt, and turtle neck.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Keaton talked about what inspires her to keep working in Hollywood after her decades-spanning career, saying, “A good part. A great piece of work. It doesn’t always work out well, but sometimes they’re fascinating.

Director Mike Newell has set an August shoot at U.K. locations for “China Court.”
The film will be directed by Newell from a script by Brian Kinsey, based on the 1961 novel “China Court: The Hours of a Country House” by Rumer Godden.
The film centers around a house, China Court, and the family that inhabits it. The film follows generations of the family over a century, up to the death of the matriarch in 1961. Characters move seamlessly in and out of each other’s timelines as they grow up, fall in love, fall out with each other and – always – pass on to those who follow them the consequences of their actions.
“White Noise” producer Uri Singer has joined forces with Echo Lake’s Mike Marcus (“The Ward”) and U.K.-based Pippa Cross to produce the film.
Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros and Singer’s Passage Pictures are financing the film.

This year, the jury of the First Feature Competition has decided to hand out two Special Jury Prizes, the first of which was given to the Croatian director Filip Heraković for his film “Pelican”. The second went to Siddharth Chauhan’s “Amar Colony” ‘for originality of vision’. In their statement, the jury comprising of Sebastian Meise, Pippa Cross, Therese Malvar, Jean des Forêts, and Michael Idov explained their decision with the following words: “This film delighted us with a bold and innovative presentation of a small town community whose frank sensuality and unabashed pursuit of urges, both human and divine, are set against the resonant backdrop of a culturally rich and deeply personal setting. The director daringly takes us by the hand and leads us on a journey to his world, introducing us to his characters and their lives with affection and often with humor.”

The film was developed by London based CrossDay productions, and is produced by film and TV veteran Pippa Cross and Sam Tipper-Hale (Starfish), with HanWay’s MD Gabrielle Stewart and CrossDay’s Janette Day as executive producers. Co-producers for Indiana Production in Italy are Daniel Campos Pavoncelli and Alessandro Mascheroni.

Daniel Clowes’ comics creation receives an A-Plus film adaptation through the directorial filter of Terry Zwigoff. The show has more going for it than the bleak alienation of disaffected quasi- gen-Xers — the script offers a depth of character revealing the insecure, hopes and fears behind all the insulting attitudes and behaviors. It’s caustic, funny and also strongly affecting.

This is an unexpected but beautiful, inspiring film. It tells the very human story of youth yearning to express themselves through art (in this case as dancers) who end up through no wish or foresight as socially dangerous protesters against a tyrannical, arbitrarily repressive government.
Iran is such an interesting country with one of the oldest cultures in the world. It was fascinating to see youth whose only wish was to create art being pulled into social protest. In recent years from abroad we have studied the various moves politically of their conservative oppressive government. I have always wondered what the youth, artists and intellectuals were and are going through there. This film brings us inside, up close.
"Desert Dancer" by Richard Raymond follows the true, inspiring story of a brave Iranian dancer, Afshin Ghaffarian.
Set in Tehran during the volatile climate of the 2009 presidential election and the start of the “Green Movement,” Afshin and a group of dancers (including “Elaheh” played by Freida Pinto) risk their lives and form an underground dance company.
One of the most socially dangerous things they do is to go on the forbidden internet to look at online dance videos.
With what little access to the Internet they had, the group discovers music and dance videos that were banned from viewing in their country.
The group learns various forms, techniques and styles of dance from timeless legends like Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev. Inspired by these newfound heroes, they stage their own performances and uncover a passion for dance and one another.
While the political and cultural backdrop of "Desert Dancer" is very unique to the time and place, the struggle to overcome oppression— whether from a government or from within— proves universal.
"Desert Dancer" stars Freida Pinto, Reece Ritchie, Tom Cullen, Nazanin Boniadi and Makram J. Khoury. Director: Richard Raymond; Screenplay: Jon Croker, based on the life story of Afshin Ghaffarian; Producers: Pippa Cross, Fabiola Beracasa, Izabella Miko, Luis Astorquia

The good fellows over at Empire Magazine and Tiger Beer are currently in the midst of an undiscovered treasures season that sets out to champion films that they feel were unfairly overlooked at the time of release and perhaps deserve another chance. As part of this, WhatCulture! was very kindly invited to London’s Soho Hotel last Thursday night for a screening of the 2009 release Heartless, followed by a Q+A with the films director, Phillip Ridley.
I have to be honest, I am one of the many who gave Heartless a wide berth upon it’s release due to the fact that, to start with, I’m not the biggest horror fan in the world and secondly the marketing just didn’t make it seem appealing enough. Having now seen the film, what we actually have on our hands is a very disturbing blend of Angel Heart and Donnie Darko...

I better caveat this post before I say anything else by saying that if you’re a keen skier and for whatever reason, aren’t going to go away this season, after watching the trailer that Jon posted a few days ago you’ll very much want to go! I know as I’m very much in that boat!
Chalet Girl looks like one of those rom-coms which will have the same ending as all the rest of them but it probably won’t stop me watching it! The movie is written by Tom Williams, Produced by Wolfgang Behr, Pippa Cross, Dietmar Güntsche, Harriet Rees, directed by Phil Traill and stars Felicity Jones and Tamsin Egerton, Sophia Bush, Brooke Shields, Bill Nighy al with Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl.
Here’s the new poster for the movie which hits UK cinemas 18th February.

A host of young British talent including Ed Westwick, Tamsin Egerton and Georgia King, star in Chalet Girl, an ice cool comedy filled with laughter, romance and kick-ass snowboarding.
Felicity Jones plays feisty 19 year old Kim Matthews who takes on the challenge of her life when she lands a job as a chalet girl in a glitzy ski resort in the Alps.
Assigned to live and work in the luxury chalet of successful businessman Richard Masden (Bill Nighy), she spends her days cooking, cleaning and catering for his family. Propelled into a world of wealth, fun and endless parties, Kim is utterly baffled by this new way of life. Finding it hard to grasp all the rules and be accepted by her uber-posh co-worker Georgie, played by 21 year old Tamsin Egerton (currently filming Camelot) , she quickly finds herself way out of her depth. Georgia King (Tanner Hall) plays Jules, Georgie's privileged and overindulged best friend.
