Killer cyborgs, A-list megastars, groundbreaking visual effects And a kick-ass soundtrack! It can mean only one thing. Yes, that’s right, good friends of JoBlo, uber director James Cameron is back to show us exactly how to follow up one of the biggest smash hits of your career with a sequel that had to surpass the expectations of even the most hardcore fan of the original movie, and also show the world how to revolutionize modern VFX…Again. Cameron had already wowed audiences with The Terminator back in 1984 and had proven that he could create impressive sequels to existing sci-fi franchises with the action-heavy Aliens in 1986. He’d also made great strides with visual effects in 1989’s The Abyss so could his original vision of having a liquid terminator in the franchise really work?

Intro: There’s one line that will forever go down in movie history as one of the most iconic moments of dialogue ever, and it was almost never to be. While filming the 1984 sci-fi / action / horror classic The Terminator, director James Cameron had initially written the line for Arnold Schwarzenegger as “I’ll come back”. However, as seen in the recent Netflix documentary series on the Austrian Oak, Arnie and Cameron had a heated clash over the line. Schwarzenegger hadn’t said the line correctly so Cameron suggested he just say the now iconic “I’ll be back” instead, leading Arnie to questioning the director’s writing, and getting a suitably pissed-off response in return.
This is just one example of how The Terminator not only became one of the most beloved movie franchises in Hollywood history, well, it is if you stop at part two that is, but that’s a story for later.

Of all the films that have been hawked in the hallways of the American Film Market, certainly one of the most prestigious and celebrated was Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1987 feature The Last Emperor. And so when the AFM unveiled a poster in 1990 to celebrate its 10th anniversary, an image from that film earned a prominent position among a montage of movies that had found responsive buyers at the market over its first decade.
From the beginning, The Last Emperor promised to be unique. Bertolucci won the approval of the Chinese government, which allowed him not only to work in China but also permitted the production to film within Beijing’s Forbidden City palace complex — the director described it to The New York Times as “the set that Hollywood never dared to build.”

‘Terminator’ Producer Says James Cameron Cut Scene After Financiers Forced Him to Cast Their Friends
The Terminator producer Gale Anne Hurd is revealing the key scene that director James Cameron cut from the 1984 film because financiers made him include their friends in it.
The producer-writer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday to share the scene in question, which shows how Cyberdyne Systems, the tech corporation responsible for the development of Skynet, got the computer chip that goes inside Terminators.
“#TheTerminator financier John Daly’s #HemdaleFilms had an output deal with #OrionPictures but hadn’t yet made a hit (that changed with our film and #Platoon),” Hurd, who was married to Cameron from 1985-89, wrote. “They insisted we use financier friends not actors in this scene, which ruined it for us.”

Just about every movie leaves scenes on the cutting room floor, and The Terminator was no exception. However, one deleted scene from the James Cameron movie has always left Terminator fans wondering why it was dropped, and franchise producer Gale Anne Hurd has now explained the reason why.
The Terminator deleted scene took place at the end of the movie and featured a pair of scientists recovering pieces from the destroyed T-800. It’s revealed that they’re from Cyberdyne, the very company that would go on to develop Skynet. Given that this scene helped complete the time loop, some fans believed that it should have been left in, but Gale Anne Hurd explained that James Cameron axed it because of the non-professional actors he was forced to use.

“The Terminator” producer Gale Anne Hurd revealed on X/Twitter that James Cameron removed a crucial scene from the 1984 action movie after financiers forced him to use their friends in it. The scene in question provided important context about how Cyberdyne Systems, the tech corporation responsible for the creation of Skynet, came into possession of the technological chip that gets placed inside of Terminators.
“‘The Terminator’ financier John Daly’s Hemdale Films had an output deal with Orion Pictures, but hadn’t yet made a hit (that changed with our film and ‘Platoon’),” Hurd explained on Twitter/X. “They insisted we use financier friends not actors in this scene, which ruined it for us.”
The financier’s friends “were paid as actors, via the Taft Hartley act,” Hurd added. “I think [Daly] insisted they be in the film because the financiers were promised a return on their investment and had yet to receive one.

Bob Barker was a pillar of television’s greatest generation.
Barker, the enduring host of “The Price Is Right” who died Aug. 26 at the age of 99, was a World War II veteran who trained as a Navy fighter pilot. But his destiny was not to fly missions in the Pacific theater. Barker’s service to his country came in the years after the war, when he and an elite corps of seasoned radio announcers laid a large part of the foundation for commercial television as we know it today.
Barker was a born broadcaster. He had a resonant voice, and his 6-foot-1 frame didn’t hurt in making an impression on viewers in the early days of grainy TV pictures. But his biggest asset was the gift of being to speak extemporaneously on live television – and make it look and feel natural while doing so.

Mj Lenderman, who plays guitar for our April 2023 CoSign Wednesday, has shared the new solo single “Knockin.”
“Knockin” was first released on a self-recorded EP Lenderman shared in 2021, and has since become a frequent fan-favorite highlight of his live shows.
“I was spending a lot of time watching John Daly videos and came across a rendition he does of Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,’” Lenderman explains of the track’s origins in a press release. “Daly’s version includes an extra verse about golfing. My ‘Knockin’ became a staple of the Mj Lenderman & The Wind live set and it felt like a good idea to re-record it professionally.”
The newly-released “Knockin” has all the hi-fi benefits of professional recording, but still retains that DIY charm. Driven by a languid beat and embellished with a good dose of pedal steel, the track finds Lenderman lovelorn: “Loneliness is simple/ Not much...

Even though it ran just one season, from 1999 until 2000, “Freaks and Geeks” remains a cult favourite.
A big reason for that has to do with the assembly of future stars that exec producer Judd Apatow and series creator Paul Feig assembled, including Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daly, James Franco, Jason Segel, Martin Starr, Busy Phillipps and Seth Rogen.
According to Rogen, fans of the beloved high-school comedy shouldn’t hold out any hope for a reboot or revival any time soon.

HBO has garnered acclaim for their prestige TV offerings, but one of their most underrated contributions to the television landscape is 2015’s “7 Days in Hell,” a mockumentary of the infamous John Isner/Nicolas Mahut Wimbledon showdown that shattered the record for longest tennis match in history. On the strengths of stars Andy Samberg and Kit Harrington, “7 Days in Hell” also took aim at a few of the legendary tennis rivalries of the 70s, 80s and 90s that brought the sport into the mainstream.
It’s a goofy, perfectly timed spoof that plays with the familiar tropes of sports docs, namely the ones in Espn’s “30 for 30” series. Apparently, it worked so well that HBO wanted more. Samberg and “7 Days in Hell” writer Murray Miller have reteamed for another trip through niche sports history with “Tour de Pharmacy,” a fictional look at a doping scandal in the world of 80s cycling.

Last Week’S Review: Emma Stone Keeps Us From Fighting on Christmas
Here are the things “Saturday Night Live” is doing right: Tapping John Cena as host, creating viral sketches, and staying weird. Here is what “SNL” needs to be doing more of: Political satire. Social commentary. Anything to demonstrate that they know what’s up. We said it last week, and we’ll say it again, and again until it actually happens. The world looks to “SNL” for this sort of thing, and the president-elect is watching! Cut down Weekend Update’s one-liners, and expand the best jokes into sketches, like this week’s exceptional “Through Donald’s Eyes.” Please. Please. (Also, when you have a sec, can you give John Cena my number?)

Metallica is trying to pawn off their greatest hits collection to more sports stars in a new promo for Espn's “SportsCenter.” The 30-second TV spot (above) features the band bumming around the office with nothing to do now that New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera — who famously used 1991 song “Enter Sandman” as his entrance song — has retired. Also read: Napping Yankees Fan Sues Espn for $10 Million “Who's left?” singer James Hetfield asks drummer Lars Ulrich. “John Daly?” Ulrich says, unconvinced. Mariano Rivera's retirement last season didn't just leave the New York Yankees with one less iconic player in pinstripes. It left Metallica with not much to do around Espn headquarters. Or so this funny new SportsCenter promo pretends. In the 30-second spot, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo of the iconic heavy-metal band try to get another iconic sports figure to use one of their tunes as an entrance song, as Rivera did with "Enter Sandman" for years. "Coach K's not interested in an entrance song, either," laments Lars, referring to Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. And alas, golfer John Daly wasn't into the...

Matt Antoine, a U.S. skeleton racer for the U.S. Olympic team, won the bronze medal in his race on Saturday at the Sochi 2014 Games.
Matt Antoine Wins Bronze At Sochi
With his win, Antoine became the first U.S. Skeleton racer to medal in the Olympics since Jimmy Shea captured the gold in the event in 2002. After the fourth heat, Antoine finished with a combined time of 3:47.26. In first place was Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov (3:44.29), and in second was Latvia’s Martins Dukurs (3:45.10.)
"We've had the philosophy all season that you don't have to be perfect to be fast," Antoine said, according to USA Today. "(Friday), I tried to be a little too perfect. Today, the goal was to let it flow more and let the sled run."
Though he came in second, the end result of the skeleton race was a slight disappointment to Dukar,...

The biggest win for the United States on Feb. 15 was unfortunately not for a medal. Hockey fans got to watch the game of their life as the U.S. faced off against Russia, resulting in basically another Miracle. Except our eye candy was upgraded from Patrick O’Brian Dempsey to T.J. Oshie. The only other American win was a bronze medal in men’s skeleton. As expected, the Europeans cleaned up in ski-jumping and super-g. But Team USA suffered another crippling loss in speed skating, and one that we couldn’t blame on the suits. Conspiracy theories may now commence.

You may remember Jon Daly's headline-grabbing, Google-image-search-confusing, stunt from 2012 where he flooded the internet with photos of himself dressed as golfer John Daly in a bid to permanently confuse search algorithms. But now the comedian is making a name for himself of his own accord thanks to starring roles in Amazon's Betas, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and a new season of The Kroll Show (which he writes for in addition to co-starring on).
I caught up with the rapidly rising star to find out how his career in comedy began, where his war with John Daly stands today and why this is the most exciting time for comics in a long while.
ETonline: How did you get into comedy?
Jon Daly: I got kicked out of acting school and moved to NYC, where I immediately started doing improv at [Upright Citizens Brigade]. Before that I'd done sketch shows in college and some improv in Pittsburgh, where...

After rolling the dice with eight original pilots, Amazon will premiere Alpha House (a John Goodman–led comedy about a frat house of senators) and Betas (a John Daly–led comedy about start-up nerds in start-up land) this month. You'll get three free episodes of each (the pilots are already streaming), starting with Alpha House on November 15 and Betas on the 22nd, and then you'll have to sign up for Amazon Prime to see the rest. Unlike Netflix, Amazon will roll out new episodes week-to-week, instead of dropping them in a binge-ready storm.

Today, it seems audiences know "Bye Bye Birdie" only from the prominent mention of it on "Mad Men," when the Sterling Cooper agency tried to copy Ann-Margret's minimalist opening number for a diet soda commercial. But when the movie musical premiered 50 years ago (on April 4, 1963), it was a huge smash. It made an instant star out of the Swedish-born actress, as well as boosting the fame of co-stars Dick Van Dyke and Paul Lynde. Based on the Broadway hit musical, "Bye Bye Birdie" was seen as a trenchant pop cultural satire at the time. Everyone knows that Conrad Birdie, the hip-swiveling rocker who is drafted into the Army, and who stages a publicity stunt on the Ed Sullivan show by agreeing to kiss a teen fan before reporting for duty, is inspired by Elvis Presley, who had to put his career on hold in 1958 when he was drafted. But...

I got the memo about Alex Trebek potentially leaving Jeopardy! in 2016, and that sent my mind into a frenzy (accompanied by the ping-pang-pow sound effect of a Daily Double). Alex Trebek's name is synonymous with Jeopardy! for a reason: He is an astoundingly great host who knows so much trivia and loves the learning process. You might think his knack for accents and correcting contestants is pretentious or annoying, but that discipline is so essential to the dignity and respect of the show's difficult material. Hell, this man hosts the National Geography Bee every year. He is a TV legend and it pains me to think of him departing the series.
But the task becomes a little bit easier when I think of some of the qualified people who could replace him. A few names have been thrown about loudly -- particularly Matt Lauer's and Anderson Cooper's...

It's time for November sweeps, which means one thing: Television execs want to make money off your time! Hooray! And what better way to celebrate the money-grubbing, callous-as-hell world of television than with one of the most damning films about the industry, Quiz Show? This week's Best Movie Ever? selection has everything: Mean TV execs, hot TV stars, annoying TV stars, Rob Morrow's mushmouthed New England accent, Martin Scorsese in an acting role, and enough '50s-style morals to drive the Drapers crazy. I also happen to love it, which means it qualifies to be Best Movie Ever. So there.
Quiz Show, the 1994 Best Picture nominee by director Robert Redford (who also helmed our beloved Ordinary People), takes a close look at the game show scandals of the 1950s when contestants like Herb Stempel (John Turturro) and Charles Van Doren (Ralph Fiennes) answered trivia questions for extraordinary sums of money.
