Academy Award-winning producer Daniel Dreifuss (“All Quiet on the Western Front”) has boarded “Red Men,” the latest feature from Mexico’s Hari Sama, best known for his lauded autobiographical pic “This is not Berlin,” which world premiered at Sundance in 2019.
Described as an “edgy and provocative coming-of-age story” about the life of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele, “Red Men” hones in on Schiele’s role in reshaping European aesthetics through his intimate relationship with lover and muse, Dominik Van Osen.
Their bond inspired Schiele’s pioneering Expressionist style while also compelling the young artist to confront his sexually fluid identity amidst repressive laws banning homosexuality in turn-of-the-century Vienna. This romantic saga delves into the emotional complexities of two artistic companions turned lovers, which drove Egon’s artistic vision while he struggled to navigate society’s norms. Paramount Pictures has picked up Ok, Boomer, a spec script by Eben Davidson.
Adam Goodman, the onetime president of Paramount, will produce via his Invisible Narratives banner along with Trevor Engelson of Underground. Davidson will also produce.
Boomer serves as a full circle moment for Davidson and Goodman. Davidson was a longtime Paramount executive who acted in several roles, including senior vp of acquisitions and production, in which he oversaw movies like Arrival and Katy Perry: Part of Me. It was in that time that he first worked with Goodman, who was president of the motion picture group.
After a stint in television, he rejoined Goodman at Invisible Narratives as head of creative. He was also a producer, along with Goodman and Michael Bay, on the 2020 pandemic lockdown movie Songbird. Davidson began developing Boomer while at Invisible Narratives.
Now, Boomer brings both Davidson and Goodman back to Paramount.

Back in 2012, Liam Scholey and Andres Budnik, assistants at WME and Creative Partners Group respectively, met by chance at Laurel Hardware, a vibey bar-restaurant in West Hollywood. Scholey, who grew up in Panama, overheard the Chilean Budnik speaking Spanish, and the two got to talking.
Scholey was in an agent training program, and he and Budnik discussed the lack of Latino employees and talent at their companies.
“I worked for an agent named Eric Rovner,” Scholey says. “He was the Latin agent for the agency. But there were very few Latin people. And anything that had to do with Latin America or speaking Spanish, people would come to me and ask me. And that happened at every company that I worked at. It was surprising at such large companies there weren’t a lot of people that could navigate that space or that world.”

Nine months after launching its new theatrical distribution operation, Japanese pay TV broadcaster Wowow has made its first theatrical film acquisition, closing an all-rights deal for pandemic thriller Songbird, starring Kj Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser and Demi Moore.
Produced by Michael Bay and Adam Goodman, and directed by Adam Mason, the dystopian (but all too real) film is set in 2022 as another pandemic ravages the world and its cities. The film zones in on a handful of people as they navigate the obstacles hindering society: disease, martial law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
Screenplay was written by Adam Mason and his writing partner Simon Boyes during the early part of the lockdown. The film was among the first features to shoot in Los Angeles after lockdown restrictions were eased.

Covid-19 mutates to Covid-23 four years into quarantine in the first trailer to Michael Bay’s pandemic thriller “Songbird.”

While most major studios movies have been unable to get rolling here in California and Los Angeles during the lockdown, Songbird, produced by Michael Bay, Adam Goodman and Andrew Sugerman Invisible Narratives, and Catchlight Films, was one of the few to do so. In fact, the movie recently wrapped production.
“We are thrilled to acquire this timely and urgent movie,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group. “This year has irrevocably changed the way people interact with each other and their surroundings, and the reverberations will be profound; with all of 2020 underlying every frame of the movie, Songbird will be relevant, moving, and sentimental as a love story, while also scary as hell. We have been longtime fans and friends of many of the creative team behind Songbird.

Michael Bay will produce what may be the first major film shot in Los Angeles during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. Deadline reported Tuesday that “Songbird,” directed by Adam Mason, will begin production within five weeks.
While it’s unclear exactly how Mason and his team will pull it off, the production could offer a blueprint for completing films when traditional means of production are off limits.
Mason (Hulu/Blumhouse’s “Into the Dark”) co-wrote a script with Simon Boyes (“Misconduct”) that takes place two years in the future, when the pandemic has not gone away and lockdowns have been reinstated as the coronavirus continues to mutate. Casting is underway.

Exclusive: Former Paramount production chief Adam Goodman’s Invisible Narratives has teamed with Michael Bay to produce Songbird, a pandemic thriller that plans to take an unusual approach to shooting a movie in Los Angeles during the lockdown. It will begin production within five weeks, and might be the first film to shoot in the city.
The film will be directed by Adam Mason (Into The Dark), who wrote the script with Simon Boyes (Misconduct). The filmmakers are providing remote training for the actors. None of the participants would say exactly how they plan to shoot a movie at a time when the guilds are still compiling their own safety protocols so that production can resume. I’m told that the filmmakers behind Songbird have screened their plans by the guilds, and they are good to go.
The film is ostensibly a taut thriller in the spirit of Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield.

Eben Davidson, the executive who joined Blumhouse Television earlier this year to oversee development of scripted programming, has left the company.
The former Paramount exec joined Blumhouse Television in March as an executive vice president. He left this week, with the two sides parting ways in what one source described as not the right long-term fit.
“Blumhouse Television and Eben Davidson have mutually decided to part ways,” the company said in a statement. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him well.”
Davidson had joined Blumhouse TV from Paramount, where he served as Svp Development for the television division. He was responsible for scripted and unscripted concepts and oversaw productions for Netflix, Amazon, Epix, Bet and E!
Before moving to television, Davidson was at Paramount Pictures, working his way up from assistant to Svp Acquisitions and Production. During that time he worked on eight Oscar-nominated films including Arrival, Florence Foster Jenkins...

Paramount has confirmed its deal for worldwide rights to the Chris Rock-directed Top Five, the comedy that got a raucous reaction at its Toronto premiere, and had a line of distributors bidding up the film until Brad Grey’s studio took it off the table paying $12.5 million. This was the biggest deal of the festival, and breaking it was some validation of Deadline’s hustle. We parachute two guys into these festivals, and then watch as whole teams are deployed by the trades to chase news. Just as happened at Cannes, Deadline broke every single deal story that happened on the ground here, and provided interviews and the flavor of the festival aplenty. Just sayin’.

Paramount Pictures has acquired a pitch by multihyphenate Rob Corddry titled The Donor. Corddry, a regular on Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, will topline the comedy. The story, which is being kept under wraps, was conceived by Corddry along with Daily Show colleagues Stewart and executive producer Ben Karlin.
