A couple months ago, we heard that Dark Sky Films will be giving the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) a 4K Uhd release in February – and you can find out all about that release at This Link. Two months after Dark Sky Films brings The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to 4K, the UK-based company Second Sight Films will be putting out their own 4K release of the film. The street date for the Second Sight Films release is April 10th, and copies can be pre-ordered Here!
Directed by Tobe Hooper from a script he wrote with Kim Henkel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has the following synopsis: When Sally hears that her grandfather’s grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin, set out with their friends to investigate. After a detour to their family’s old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door.

During the pandemic, Valentine’s Day will look noticeably different to previous years.
Many people in relationships will be separated by distance, or due to ongoing lockdown restrictions, while single people are also forced to put their lives on hold.
However, there are myriad ways to celebrate one of the most romantic days of the year. Take inspiration from the poets and musicians who have, through the centuries, managed to convey their affection by sending letters and notes to their loved ones, however far away they might have been.
Below are excerpts from some of the most famous love letters of all time:
1. Johnny Cash to June Carter Cash, 1994 (on June’s 65th birthday)
"Happy Birthday Princess,
We get old and get use to each other. We think alike.
We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit.

With the Sundance Film Festival now wrapped up, offering our first glimpse at the 2023 cinematic offerings, eyes are now on Berlinale, which kicks off later this month. Looking at this month’s theatrical releases, it’s an eclectic mix of fest favorites (including the best film from last year’s Cannes and a pair of highlights from last year’s Slamdance), underseen gems, and a few auteur-driven studio offerings.
12. The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic (Teemu Nikki; Feb. 3)
A week before James Cameron’s 1997 box-office behemoth returns to theaters, we’ll see the release of an acclaimed festival favorite in which his Best Picture winner figures into the central narrative. Winner of the Orizzonti Extra Audience Award at the Venice International Film Festival, Teemu Nikki’s The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic follows Jaakko (Petri Poikolainen), a charming Finn who loves movies despite his blindness,...

Reaching a wider audience with 2020’s The Killing of Two Lovers, writer-director Robert Machoian and star Clayne Crawford are back with their follow-up, The Integrity of Joseph Chambers. Also starring Jordana Brewster, Michael Raymond James, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the film follows insurance salesman and family man Joseph Chambers, who begins an experiment to prove himself as a capable father and husband that turns into a nightmare as he finds himself faced with a terrible choice that he must make. Ahead of a February 17 release in theaters and on VOD, the new trailer has now arrived.
John Fink said in his review, “Arriving at a scary time in American history when inflation is at an unprecedented high, The Integrity of Joseph Chambers is initially willing to lean into the impulse some have to buy a year’s worth of freeze-dried meals from Costco in the event of global catastrophe. Whether you want to know about kitting out James Bond or sinking his claws into Paddington Bear, Britain’s most likable actor is here to tell all
You’ll probably know Ben Whishaw best for taking over from Desmond Llewelyn (and briefly John Cleese) as Q in the past three James Bond films. And as the voice of Paddington Bear, where he was brought in at the last minute to replace Colin Firth.
Whishaw brings something so very likable to every role he plays: John Keats in Jane Campion’s Bright Star, Sebastian Flyte in the 2008 version of Brideshead Revisited and the grown-up Michael Banks in Mary Poppins Returns. And that includes his TV work: Norman Scott in A Very English Scandal and junior doctor Adam Kay in This Is Going to Hurt.

Last fall saw the debut of one of the most vital documentaries on the opioid crisis with All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, and while Laura Poitras’ film sought accountability on a higher level, an essential new work takes an intimate look on the ground at those saving lives on a day-to-day basis. Colin Askey’s Love in the Time of Fentanyl, executive-produced by Sean Baker, examines the epicenter of the opioid crisis in Vancouver, Canada—specifically in a forward-thinking overdose prevention center in the city’s Downtown Eastside neighborhood. Following stops at Doxa and Doc NYC, the film will open at Dctv’s Firehouse Cinema on February 3 in NYC and we’re pleased to exclusively debut the first trailer.

About a year and a half ago, Texas Chainsaw 3D (watch it Here) star Alexandra Daddario gave an interview where she had some interesting things to say about her time working on the film (which just celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month). Daddario revealed that she had tried to get the “Do you thing, cuz!” line cut, and that she is very grateful to have been in the movie. Not just because she was having trouble getting work at the time, but also because there were severe issues to overcome during the production and it taught her “what happens when things go wrong, what happens when things go right, why did they go wrong, why shouldn’t they have happened, how does the studio get involved when something goes wrong, how studios interact with projects.” Now, during a new interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Daddario seems to have...

The house from director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) – which was moved from the filming location in the ’90s and turned into the Grand Central Cafe and Club Car Bar, which sits on the grounds of the Antlers Hotel in Kingsland, Texas – was recently purchased by new owners. During an interview with Daily Trib, the new owners promised they would “preserve and protect the history and integrity” of both the Grand Central Cafe and the Antlers Hotel. On the cafe’s Facebook page, they even said they would be “going deeper into the world of Mr. Hooper.” And they have quickly proven their dedication to honoring the house’s history. They’ve even gone so far as to rename the restaurant in the house Hooper’s!

We’ve been following the progress of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game that’s being developed by Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham for several months now, but that’s not the only Texas Chainsaw Massacre game we have to look forward to. Trick or Treat Studios has also created a board game that’s inspired by the original Chainsaw film (watch it Here) – and that board game is now available for pre-order at This Link! The board game goes for the price of 59.95, and pre-orders are estimated to ship out around March 31, 2023.
Designed by Scott Rogers and featuring illustrations by Terry Wolfinger, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre board game has the following description:
The players’ van has run out of gas, leaving them stranded and at the mercy of the Slaughter family! Work together and push your luck to escape. In this cooperative game, all players win or lose as a group.

A much-talked-about premiere at SXSW earlier this year, Beth de Araújo’s thriller Soft & Quiet, shot in real-time, follows a single afternoon in the life of an elementary school teacher, Emily. She organizes an inaugural club meeting of like-minded women as their racist proclivities soon bubble up and a nightmare of white supremacy plays out. Starring Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Eleanore Pienta, Dana Millican, Melissa Paulo, Jon Beavers, and Cissy Ly, the first trailer has now arrived ahead of a release on November 4.
John Fink said in his review, “Told in real-time across one (seemingly) unbroken shot, Beth de Araújo’s Soft & Quiet is perhaps the most provocative film to screen at SXSW this year. If it doesn’t quite fit the bill as a traditional horror film, that doesn’t mean there isn’t terror lurking under its surface. Speaking after the screening, de Araujo said her intention is...

If one was off-put by the over-the-top theatricality of last year’s Spencer, a new documentary exploring the life of Princess Diana will be more up your alley. Ed Perkins’ The Princess draws solely from archival footage to examine the media’s obsession with Diana Frances Spencer and her tragic death. Ahead of an HBO Max debut on August 13, the first trailer has now landed.
John Fink said in his review, “By design, Ed Perkins’ The Princess keeps a healthy, mediated distance from its subject, the late Princess of Wales. After all, the news is the first draft of history, and the film restricts its view to what we knew at the time. In doing so Perkins orchestrates a film that demystifies the lore and media obsession with Princess Diana, in essence pointing its gaze inward—towards the media covering the adoring fans in the moment. Julia Child has been a part of John Dunn’s life for as long as he can remember. As a child, he watched her public TV cooking program, “The French Chef,” so often that she came to mean much more to him than just someone smiling encouragingly at him from inside the small screen. “She was one of those people that (made such an impact on me) — kind of like the-duckling-imprints-on-their-mom idea, where you’re at an impressionable age when you’re watching something,” he told TheWrap. “She was a very iconic person in my upbringing and in my DNA, almost, of growing up in America at a certain age.”
So to find himself years later designing the costumes for “Julia,” HBO Max’s series about the chef who brought French cooking to the American masses, seemed almost fated. “It was great, great fun to go in and do a...

Bill Murray continues his habit of popping up in unexpected places – from passed out front row at the Late Show to being dumbfounded by a last-second shot at the Ncaa basketball tournament – this Friday when the actor shares some of his favorite poems in the upcoming issue of O.
In celebration of National Poetry Month, Oprah Magazine's books editor Leigh Haber reached out to the actor through a mutual friend, knowing that Murray was a supporter of New York's Poets House, The Associated Press reports. Two months passed without any response from the actor,...

Touch Written by Toni Press-Coffman Directed by James Masciovecchio Cave Theatre Co. Under St. Marks, NYC January 14-24, 2016
A chance meeting in a high school physics class kicks off the narrative of Bronx-born playwright Toni Press-Coffman’s Touch. Kyle (Josh Triplett) gets to know quirky free-spirit Zoë after she pokes her head into the wrong Arizona classroom. After graduation, they marry, and Kyle channels his lifelong love of science center into a career in astronomy. Aside from some of the usual marital disagreements, their relationship brings out the best in one another, until, on one Thanksgiving spent with Kyle's childhood friend Bennie (Alex Etling) and Zoë's sister Serena (Cassie Wood), a random act of violence alters the course of all of their lives.
Much of Touch recounts the past, but it shifts regularly and seamlessly between memory and developments in the play’s present, as well as among action and narration and,...

"In the Land of Blood and Honey" (2011)Angelina Jolie made her move to directing with this ambitious foreign language romance drama set against the background of the Bosnian War. Goran Kostić brings a weary vulnerability to Denijel, a solider fighting for the Bosnian Serbs, whose father happens to be the savage leader of the Yugoslav People's Army and their prison camp. To his surprise, he finds a former love suffering in confinement as a Bosniak prisoner. Ajla (Zana Marjanovic) is a sensitive young woman with envious resolve and self-assurance to spare. Their romantic reawakening passionately plays out in secret as they go to harrowing lengths to protect a history that could kill them both. "Bright Star" (2009)Jane Campion's gorgeously realized and lovingly crafted "Bright Star" keeps its protagonists — poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw) and the forward-thinking Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish) — apart due to seemingly surmountable issues, like wealth (he.

For a first time director to attract the attention of an icon of cinema is a heady experience. So imagine the feelings of Jennifer Kent, the Australian director of the new low budget, independent horror film The Babadook, when she saw this tweet from none other than William Friedkin, director of The Exorcist himself: I've never seen a more terrifying film than The Babadook. It will scare the hell out of you as it did me. — William Friedkin (@WilliamFriedkin) December 1, 2014 Since that first tweet, Friedkin has made beating the drums for The Babadook something of a personal cause celebre, continuing to champion it online and introducing a midnight screening last weekend at La’s Vista Theater. We spoke with William Friedkin by phone to find out how this little film had captured his attention. Hitfix: How did you discover The Babadook? William Friedkin: Well (British film critic) Mark Kermode,...

Now here is an interesting piece of indie film news. Haifaa Al-Mansour, the first female director to come out of Saudi Arabia, has plans to direct Elle Fanning as the writer Mary Shelley in A Storm in the Stars. Just take a moment and let that sink in.
A Storm in the Stars will tell the story of the then-17 year old Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s relationship with the poet Percy Shelley, leading to her becoming his second wife. The script is said to mainly concern the difficulties of Mary’s life, her first love, and grappling with a culture out of step with her concerns. Her parents were Mary Wollstonecraft, an early feminist who penned A Vindication of the Rights of Women, and philosopher William Godwin. Mary Shelley was raised by her father to liberal political views, and eventually met and began an affair with the poet Percy Shelley...

Update: Paddington Bear has a new voice. The filmmakers determined the voice of Colin Firth (Mamma Mia!, Nanny McPhee) sounded too grown up for such a young stuffed bear. So, they searched for a new voice for the traveler from Peru and landed on Ben Whishaw, who plays Q in the new James Bond movies and played doomed poet John Keats in Bright Star. Luckily, Paddington is still on track to charm us, scheduled to open now on Christmas Day.Nov. 15, 2013 - Paddington will be in theaters next Christmas, the release date is set for Dec. 12, 2014.
Sept. 13, 2013 - Paddington Bear, the polite and proper stuffed animal from Peru, will get his chance at movie stardom thanks to David Heyman, the producer of the Harry Potter movies. Colin Firth, who won an Academy Award for playing King George VI in The King's Speech, will be the voice of Paddington in this...

Penny Dreadful is a complicated, layered love letter to the period in which it's set. Here's Becky's review of episode 3...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
1.3 Resurrection
The previous episode of Penny Dreadful left us with one cracker of a cliffhanger as Frankenstein’s first Creature returned to his creator with a chest-ripping flourish. The third episode opens with a much quieter moment, devoted to the young Frankenstein learning to cope with death through literature and later through science. It provides a tragic past for the hubristic resurrection man we’ve seen in the previous episodes and makes his actions more understandable, if not excusable. It is this quieter exploration of his childhood that makes his confrontation with his Creature more illuminating, highlighting their difference in experience.
The brilliant flashback scene in which the first Creature is born provides a stark contrast to the more serene way in which Proteus was brought into the world.

Well, at least things worked out better for Jessica Hoel and John Erck in their second run on "The Amazing Race." A little better, at least. In their first season, John & Jessica won the season's opening Leg and earned an Express Pass. Then, just a couple episodes later, they were eliminated with the Express Pass still in their back pocket after refusing to play the powerful Pass in a challenge where they remained convinced there were teams behind them long after they'd fallen into last place. It was one of the more notorious pieces of self-immolation in "Amazing Race" history and that was probably what earned John & Jessica a second chance on "The Amazing Race: All-Stars." This second run lacked the highs of that season-opening Leg victory, but they also lasted deeper into the Race and, when they went out, they were theoretically able to point the blame away from themselves.

Every once in a while, I like for somebody on "The Amazing Race" to really impress me. And I'm easily impressed. When the Hockey Brothers were throwing casks over their shoulders and running up hills? That impressed me. Heck, when Mark put together that car with the instructions in a language he couldn't understand? That impressed me. Sunday (April 13) night's confusing episode of "The Amazing Race" offered a low bar for achievement: I wanted somebody to know Roman Numerals. For what it's worth, *I* don't know Roman Numerals. Well, I know some Roman Numerals, but usually I know them if I can work backwards to some degree. Like if I'm looking at a motion picture copyright date, I usually have a vague sense of when the movie was released and I can figure out the actual date from that. So when it comes to Roman Numerals, I don't impress myself,...

Do Super Bowl commercials really matter? Yes. Shut up. Sure, it seems strange that we should think about, care about, or devote any deeper-than-shallow national attention to advertisements representing millions of dollars invested by companies worth billions of dollars in the hopes that you, me, and everyone we know will give them at least hundreds of dollars. Did the great philosophers ever grapple with the subtext of a billboard? Did John Keats ever...
