- Perhaps famously known for creating the DC comics character, "Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel" aka Harley Quinn, for his friend, Arleen Sorkin. She made her first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series (1992) and was popular enough to be eventually inducted into the DC universe comic books in 1999.

- In 1993, while walking home one night, Dini was accosted by a pair of muggers who brutally beat and nearly killed him. He managed to force himself the rest of the way home and called the police; at the hospital the next day he discovered that his cheekbone had been shattered and parts of his skull pulverized by the beating, requiring surgery. Dini suffered profound emotional trauma for years, until writing the semi-autobiographical comic "Dark Knight: A True Batman Story" in 2016, which he felt lifted a burden off of him.
