How to Train Your Dragon was an immensely successful adaptation of Cressida Cowell’s charming children’s book. The story ended nicely and had we never revisited the village of Berk, we would have been satisfied. However, in film, success demands milking the cow as far as audiences allow so we now have a sequel. Unlike so many other money grabbing attempts, this once actually advances the characters without rehashing the past.
Growing up is never easy, it has fueled countless movies and novels through the years so it is a challenge to effectively tell a sequel to a beloved children’s tale where the characters actually change. DreamWorks Animation, though, accepted the challenge when they green lit a follow-up to 2010’s smash hit. The sequel arrived to great critical acclaim in the summer and now, Fox Home Entertainment is making it available now via digital download with the Blu-ray edition to follow on Tuesday.

For those who don't know, President Barack Obama paid a visit to DreamWorks Animation studios yesterday, delivering a speech to 2,000 employees and visitors about the entertainment industry being "one of the bright spots of our economy." Without a political statement from this writer, it's a publicity ass-kissing tour that all presidents make to various companies throughout their term. But still, the tour did result in some cool footage of the president checking out Dwa's motion-capture stage, showcasing some footage from How to Train Your Dragon 2 with director Dean DuBois present. In addition, the president also ran into Steve Martin and Jim Parsons working on the upcoming animated film Home. Here's the mocap stage and How to Train Your Dragon 2 footage from Cartoon Brew (via SlashFilm): And here's Obama's rendezvous with a sick, elbow-bumping Steve Martin and Jim Parsons: As you can see, the tour is led by Jeffrey Katzenberg (who,...

In 2011, Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi brought his musical talents to the big screen by scoring the sappy but charming family film We Bought a Zoo from director Cameron Crowe. The composer will reteam with Crowe on his next film, but in the meantime, Jonsi will also be lending his music to the animation world. DreamWorks Animation held a small filmmaker panel at Comic-Con today, and director Dean DuBois revealed that Jonsi will be working with John Powell, who worked on the music for the original film, and write three songs for How to Train Your Dragon 2, just like his Sticks and Stones track on the first film. But that's not all the good news for the Dwa sequel. The voice cast already includes returning cast members Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig, with one new voice coming from Kit Harrington...
