Academy Award-winning manager and producer Michael Sugar’s management company Sugar23 will join forces with Los Angeles-based gaming organization FaZe Clan to launch FaZe Studios, a production house that will create gaming-focused television and feature films.
Sugar (above right) said his company was introduced to FaZe by Brad Foxhoven, founder of drone racing company DR1 Racing and head of interactive and gaming programming at Sugar23. “Our exciting partnership will look to drive, create and acquire content tailored to FaZe’s audience, thereby extending their brand into the traditional content space,” Foxhoven said in a statement Tuesday.
FaZe Studios will produce a wide range of content, including film, television, documentaries and unscripted shows. Gaming will be a major focus but the content produced won’t all be strictly esports — “it’s going to have a thru-line of content that is subversive, and provokes a conversation about culture, and where it’s going,...

On January 28, PlayStation released a trailer for ‘Sly Cooper,’ the movie. Set to hit theaters in 2016 that rascally raccoon is setting out to defend his family tree. The story line is largely based on Sly’s adventures in Sly Cooper 4: Thieves in Time.
In the film, according to a post on PlayStation.Blog by producer Brad Foxhoven:
Sly learns that he comes from a long line of talented, international thieves, and is catapulted into a global adventure. Sly races to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding the Cooper clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk — an evil metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line.
The major differences between the latest game and the upcoming movie are a global adventure rather than a race through time, the sinister and soulless Clockwerk instead of the dastardly Cyrille Le Paradox, and the artistic style,...

Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment are betting big on film adaptations of Sony PlayStation's cute critter platform video game series.
Not content with just a "Ratchet and Clank" movie, earlier this week they announced a film based on the "Sly Cooper" series about a master thief raccoon and his friends. The project is far enough along that a teaser trailer is already out which you can see below.
Now, speaking with Shack News, Blockade's co-founder Brad Foxhoven revealed some more details about the project. Sucker Punch Productions, the company behind the "Sly Cooper" and "inFamous" game series, is said to have been "very supportive" in the process and provided both "creative guidance and feedback throughout."
The film alters the look of the game characters and world, to give it a more deliberately computer animated look whilst remaining true to the game's artistic style - namely its "combination between gritty film noir meets bright,...

Heavenly Sword's animated movie has been given a trailer.
The film sees Anna Torv return in the role of Nariko, while Alfred Molina replaces Andy Serkis as King Bohan.
The Heavenly Sword film will follow the overall story of the game, but will introduce a "chosen one" which you never see in the film.
"This creates a driving element through the second act of the film, and places even more pressure on Nariko when everything falls apart," producer David Wohl told IGN.
Produced by Blockade Entertainment, its work on the film helped them secure the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie, which is set to debut in cinemas in 2015.
"Quite simply, the quality of the Heavenly Sword film impressed more than a few people," said producer Brad Foxhoven.
"Sony was aware of the challenges we were facing during the production, and was very supportive throughout the production - but the final...

The Ratchet & Clank video game franchise is going to get the big screen treatment! THR reports that Rainmaker Entertainment has teamed up with Blockade Entertainment to develop a 3D animated movie adventure.
The characters were introduced to the world in 2002, and they've become quite popular over the years. The most recent game is called Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, which was released last year.
I've never played these games, but they "focus on two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy 'lombax' who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own, while Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn."
The movie will be directed by Jericca Cleland from a script written by Tj Fixman, who is also a senior writer for Insomniac Games.

Back in 2004, it was announced that John Woo (Face/Off) had signed on to direct "Metroid" movie, based on the popular Nintendo video game. The project fell part in 2007, and now producer Brad Foxhoven explained what happened. "We believed there was a great opportunity for John Woo to bring his style of action into a 'Metroid film.' Nintendo was quite supportive of the idea," he said. "We knew that a lot of the Metroid mythology had many similarities to other well-known sci-fi franchises, so we had to try and propose some fresh ideas that Nintendo would approve. [Character] designs [also] needed to be updated, particularly when seen as a live-action representation." Foxhoven went on to say that after the failure of the 1993 "Super Mario Bros," Nintendo limited collaboration and attempted to have more control over the creative process, which ultimately killed the project. "Our entire development time was spent exploring the Metroid world,...

Back in 2004 director John Woo was developing a live-action adaptation of Metroid. The film production ended up falling apart. We now have some information on the ill-fated film project and where it was headed thanks to the film's producer Brad Foxhoven. During that time Nintendo was developing three Metroid-related video game projects, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for GameCube, Metroid Prime: Hunters for Nintendo DS, and the Fuse Games spin-off Metroid Prime Pinball. There was a strong revival of the game coming and according to Foxhoven,
We believed there was a great opportunity for John Woo to bring his style of action into a Metroid film. Nintendo was quite supportive of the idea, as they were all fans of John's previous films.
He explains to IGN that Tiger Hill Entertainment ended up spending three years on the development process for the film coming up with a story that would appeal to...

John Woo is renowned for his mastery of action, directing scenes with a choreographer's artistry that has influenced the likes of Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. He also has earned the admiration of many video game makers, some of whom have paid him the compliment of trying their own hand at Woo's techniques. He now is directing his own video game project, a next-generation action game titled Stranglehold set to be confirmed Wednesday at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005. But more than that, Woo is intent on blazing a path for Hollywood filmmakers to control their own creative destiny in the fast-growing video game realm. And in fact it was Woo's experience checking out the scene at the annual E3 confab a few years ago that convinced him it was time to become more proactive in the game space. "I went to E3 several years ago and saw my action style imitated in a lot of other games, and they were not even well done," Woo said. "I thought I should protect my trademark and produce my own video games." That reasoning led Woo to form Tiger Hill Entertainment with his producing partner Terence Chang and entertainment executive Brad Foxhoven. As a hybrid between Hollywood and video game studio, the company's mission is to bring Woo's original story ideas to the video game realm and serving as a bridge between Hollywood talent and the game publishers and developers.

John Woo has optioned Nintendo's best-selling video game franchise Metroid for the big screen. It's the latest move demonstrating the director's commitment to interactive entertainment properties because it comes as Woo is developing three original titles at his Tiger Hill video game studio using Hollywood talent. Woo will produce the sci-fi movie and has the option to direct. Terence Chang and Brad Foxhoven will share production responsibilities. Lion Rock Prods.' Suzanne Zizzi also is attached to the project. Foxhoven said the plan is to release the first film before 2006. "Everyone involved is looking at this as a big-budget picture," Foxhoven said. "We see a tremendous opportunity to launch a film franchise with Nintendo as a partner." Nintendo's Metroid has appeared in various incarnations since its introduction in 1986, with cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million-12 million. Each gives fans the chance to experience the suspense, mystery and excitement of space exploration.
