We always love a good viral marketing campaign, and with Lionsgate gearing up to release The Strangers: Chapter 1 in theaters on May 17, they’re pulling out all the stops this month.
The three masked slashers from the franchise – known as Pinup Girl, Dollface and the Man in the Mask – have been showing up on home security cameras across the country!
Videos and images posted to Tiktok, Twitter, and even Next Door have been documenting the sightings, one of which is a creepy doorbell cam video of a roommate who was allegedly followed home by the masked trio earlier this month. Another video sees them lurking around outside of a gas station, eventually stopping to look directly into the security camera.
The Strangers were also spotted standing outside the Manhattan Criminal Court House, making for “a strange, slightly unsettling scene,” as one Twitter user perfectly described it.

"Knock, knock!" "Who's there?" "Abject terror." "Abject terror who?" No, not actually the start of a joke, but the basic premise for The Strangers: Chapter 1, which here launches a fresh take on the home invasion horror concept first launched by Bryan Bertino in 2008's The Strangers. With Renny Harlin in the director's chair of what is planned as the kick-off for a trilogy, the trailer has stalked online:
Written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, The Strangers: Chapter 1 is focused on young couple Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez), who are taking a road trip as part of their move to the West Coast. When they break down in a small town that redefines the word "eerie" (cue townsfolk doing the stop-and-stare in the local diner and beyond), they have to make the best of it in a remote cabin.

A young couple fight for their lives in the official trailer for Lionsgate’s The Strangers – Chapter 1. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turns into a battle with psycho killers in the prequel to 2008’s The Strangers.

Nearly 16 years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked cinemas (moments from that movie still linger in my mind rent-free), it's time to "witness how the strangers became the strangers" in the trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1 ahead of its May 17th theatrical release via Lionsgate.
Directed by Renny Harlin from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen & Alan Freedland and a story by Bryan Bertino (and based on The Strangers written by Bryan Bertino), The Strangers: Chapter 1 stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guitierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath. Lionsgate has shared the first trailer for Renny Harlin’s prequel slasher. Take a look at The Strangers: Chapter 1 trailer here.
2024 has been a little barren for horror films, but fear not, my friends. Things are looking up.
Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 is heading our way in May and if it captures even a smidge of the atmosphere of the 2008 original, we’re in good company.
The first trailer has just surfaced online for The Strangers: Chapter 1 and you can take a look at it below.
Chapter 1 is the third film in the franchise, following on from Bryan Bertino’s 2008 original film, simply titled The Strangers, and its 2018 sequel, Strangers: Prey At Night.
The trailer showcases the iconic masks worn by the intruders in Bertino’s film. The trailer’s tagline also invites us to “witness how the strangers became the strangers”.

What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ Trailer Looks Like a Direct Remake of the 2008 Home Invasion Horror Movie
The first installment in a brand new reboot trilogy from Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be available in theaters nationwide on May 17, 2024.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is said to be something of a remake of the original 2008 movie, while its sequels – Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – will blaze a new path from there.
Our hope is that the two subsequent movies will allow Renny Harlin to get crazy and inject a little more of his personal filmmaking style into the proceedings, because The Strangers: Chapter 1 indeed does look to be a pretty straight up remake of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion classic. This first trailer essentially goes through all the familiar beats, ending with a new/lesser version of the most iconic line from Bertino’s movie. “Because you were home” has been replaced with “Because you’re here,” which doesn’t quite have the same punch to it.

Lock your doors, because Lionsgate has released the trailer for the upcoming horror film “The Strangers: Chapter 1,” set to release on May 17.
The third film in “The Strangers” franchise, which originated with Bryan Bertino’s 2008 film, stars Madelaine Petsch as a woman moving to the Pacific Northwest to start anew with her fiancé (Froy Gutierrez). Their plans go askew when they stay at an AirBnB in Oregon, where they are subject to the torment of three masked strangers that show up at their door.
Other cast members include Rachel Shenton, Gabriel Basso, Ema Horvath, Richard Brake and Ella Bruccoleri.
“Chapter One” is the first film in a new trilogy directed by Renny Harlin, who has previously helmed “Die Hard 2,” “Cliffhanger” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” among other projects.
The original “Strangers” starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as the targets of masked killers who break into their home.

When it comes to the horror genre, there's no larger fear than the fear of the unknown. Perversely (in defiance of good creepy storytelling) but understandably (because what better way is there to combat fear of the unknown than by education), audiences and filmmakers are drawn to continue the story of a number of ambiguous horror films through sequels, remakes, reboots, and other franchise-expanding efforts.
The original "The Strangers" is one of the most unsettling home invasion movies ever made, thanks to the large amount of realism and ambiguity surrounding the titular masked killers. Contrary to popular belief, there is an "explanation" of sorts for their actions in Bryan Bertino's 2008 film and Johannes Roberts' 2018 sequel, "The Strangers: Prey at Night" in the repeated line "Because you were home," indicating that their murder spree is nothing more than random violence unleashed due to opportunity. Yet the identities of Dollface, Pin-Up Girl,...

Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch hears knocking at the door and a voice from outside asks if Tamara’s home in the first clip from The Strangers: Chapter 1. The clip, which debuted at the New York Comic Con before making its way online, ends with someone walking behind Petsch’s character inside the house. Creepy!

Lionsgate is gearing up to unleash an entire trilogy of brand new movies set in the world of The Strangers, with The Strangers Trilogy set to be released some time next year.
This morning, Entertainment Weekly has provided us with a first taste of The Strangers Trilogy, previewing director Renny Harlin’s new movies with three first-look images.
“When this opportunity came to me, the idea of not doing a remake or a reboot but doing a trilogy based on the original film, I thought it was an incredible opportunity,” Harlin tells Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive chat. He also notes that the first film, The Strangers: Chapter 1, is similar to the original 2008 movie, while its sequels blaze a new path from there.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 and The Strangers: Chapter 3, Harlin notes, “explore what happens to the victims of this kind of violence and who the perpetrators are of this kind of violence.

Lionsgate is gearing up to unleash an entire trilogy of new The Strangers movies, and this afternoon we’ve learned that The Strangers Trilogy will be released sometime in 2024.
Additionally, Lionsgate lets us know that a first-look is coming to New York Comic Con in October. The brand new official account over on Twitter tweets, “Shut your window. Lock your door. They are coming. Get your first look of #TheStrangersTrilogy at Nycc with director Renny Harlin and producer Courtney Solomon on October 12th at 3pm.”
We have no idea what the release strategy is going to end up being for these three movies, but it’s interesting that they’re being packaged together as “The Strangers Trilogy.” And we assume based on Lionsgate’s tease today that all three movies will be released next year.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it. And check out teaser imagery below…

Director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) has already wrapped production on not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here), but an entire remake trilogy. Well, the official announcement referred to this as a remake project, anyway. But that might not actually be the case. During a recent interview with CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman, cast member Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) said the trilogy is set “in the same universe” as The Strangers and its follow-up The Strangers: Prey at Night. Which leaves fans to wonder if this is actually a sequel trilogy…

Director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) recently wrapped production on not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here), but an entire remake trilogy. While we’re still waiting to hear what sort of release strategy Lionsgate has in mind for these three new Strangers movies, Collider was able to talk to star Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) about the trilogy – and Petsch promised that these Strangers movies will deliver more answers, more mystery, and more scares.
When asked what she would tell The Strangers fans who are skeptical about the remake trilogy, Petsch answered, “I’d like to first tell that person that I too feel that way about the original Strangers. When I got sent the trilogy of scripts, I said, ‘This feels like a behemoth that maybe shouldn’t be touched.’ I really felt that way as well and I...

Part of the reason why "The Strangers" has endured as an effective horror movie is that we've all had that feeling of being home alone at night, yet it still feels like there's something else watching us from the shadows. After 85 minutes of homebound terror, the words "because you were home" make all of the preceding violence sound so hauntingly meaningless. A couple on the rocks is thrust into a harrowing night of survival for no other reason besides that their lights were on.
It wasn't until a decade later that a sequel came to theaters with "The Strangers: Prey at Night," which /Film's Chris Evangelista called a "schlocky slasher showcase." Rather than rehashing the hopelessness of Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion thriller, the follow-up from Johannes Roberts saw the human prey actually landing a few blows in against their stalkers, and living to see another day. I truly believe...
