Festival du Nouveau Cinema ’12: ‘Uncontrollable’ teases the viewer with potential but ends up a bore
Uncontrollable
Directed by Eugene Garcia

Canada, 2012
It can’t be very easy working in Canadian film, an industry whose unfortunate stagnation has prevented it from reaching the heights of audience-wide and even critical recognition many of its ardent defenders would love to see it earn. Be it of the commercial or art house variety, Canadian film, notwithstanding the obvious exceptions (David Cronenberg, his son Brendan, Sarah Polley), simply does not glow as brightly as it could. Montrealer and staunchly independent minded filmmaker Eugene Garcia, understood to be something of a regular at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema, brings his latest to the festival, Uncontrollable, offering any curious viewers a look inside the quirky world of a desperate writer finding inspiration in a man whose fate is just as desperate if not more so.
Daniel Delgao (played by the director himself, Eugene Garcia) is in a rough spot in his life.

Montreal’s Festival Du Nouveau Cinema (10.10 – 10.21) announced their line-up today for their 41st edition and among the smorgasbord of subtitle offerings dating back to this year’s Rotterdam, Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Venice and Tiff editions, we’re knee-deep in avant-garde world cinema from the established auteurs Assayas, Vinterberg, Ozon, Sang-Soo, Joao Pedro Rodriguez, Larrain, Loach, Reygadas, Ghobadi, Mungiu and Miguel Gomes. Heavy on offerings from Quebec and France, the fest also manages to offer a stellar snapshot of the up-and-comers from all corners of the globe. Among the notable titles in the (Competition category) International Selection we’ve got Pablo Berger’s Blancanieves, Ursula Meier’s Sister, Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky’s Francine (which received its theatrical release earlier this month) and Rodrigo Plá’s La Demora. Loaded in Cannes items, the Special Presentations is the fest’s A-list selections (see filmmakers named above) and the one pic...

Just like me, were you pissed off because you had to stay in your hometown while the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) was happening? Well, it appears that the wait is over! In fact, the Festival du nouveau cinéma (Fnc) - which will be taking place in Montreal from October 7 to 18 - has revealed its line-up of Canadian films. Besides, this goes without saying that most of these films were previously shown at the Tiff.
So here's the list of feature films and (a few) documentaries. By the way, each film's description is taken directly from the media release that was sent to me.
