Michelle Duggar had the same hairstyle -- long curly hair with bangs -- for 40 years until her kids surprised her with a birthday makeover to celebrate her 46th.
"I enjoyed the fact that my whole family and my girls came up with this amazing way of showing how much they loved me with a 24-hour birthday surprise," the "19 Kids and Counting" star tells People. "Going from curly to totally straight was a shock for me, but I am loving it and I have been doing both styles, curly and straight, since the cut."
She adds that her husband, Jim Bob, likes the cut, though his initial response was, "I do like it longer."

Pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans was assaulted and carjacked Wednesday (May 16) at a gas station on the west side of Detroit, reports the AP. Winans says four to five young men followed him from inside the station and attacked him as he was putting gas in his car.
Winans is a pastor at the large Perfecting Church on Detroit's east side and is well known for eulogizing singer Whitney Houston at her February funeral.
Luckily, Winans only had minor scrapes and bruises following the incident, though the young men did make off with his wall containing $200, his $15,000 Rolex watch and his 2012 Infiniti QX56 SUV.
"I'm just saddened that it has come to this. This kind of nonsense just has to stop. It's just the savageness of what's happening in the street," says Winans.

Recently, TLC reality stars the Duggars were caught up in the least scandalous extortion plot of all time. A woman reportedly tried to squeeze $10,000 out of the family because she had photos of cousin Amy Duggar posing with an older musician she reportedly had an affair with.
The FBI caught the woman and the photos were completely harmless, but on tonight's (Feb. 28) episode of "19 Kids and Counting," we meet James Garrett, the man caught up in the non-scandal, for the first time.
The episode takes us to Branson, Mo where we catch up with Cousin Amy and find out what's happening in her budding music career.
At the time the extortion plot went public, Duggar issued a statement regarding her relationship with Garrett. "He is a longtime family friend who has always been supportive of my music career," she says. "He's a good Christian and it's upsetting that his generosity has been exploited like this.

Amy Duggar is an aspiring singer, not an aspiring tabloid fixture. Or so it sure seems in this clip from Tuesday's new episode of 19 Kids and Counting, in which Jim Bob Duggar's niece talks about meeting musician James Garrett and the advice he's given her about performing. Shocking! Well, at least the Iowa woman who supposedly thought that a photo of Amy and Garrett smiling together could net her $10,000 seemed to think so! "James is very talented, and he's definitely shown me different ideas that you can do, and I look up to him. The advice he gives me, I take," Amy says of Garrett, who has had the 25-year-old perform during his A Tribute to John Denver show at the Little Opry...

It doesn't seem all that risqué to us. Maybe that's why 56-year-old James Garrett laughed the whole thing off. But before we start making assumptions, let's get a little back story on everything that happened with the alleged extortion plot, and hear what Garrett had to tell E! News about the ongoing situation. In case you don't remember, Iowa photographer Teresa Hunt is charged with one count of extortion after she allegedly demanded that 19 Kids and Counting be canceled or for TLC's parent company, Discovery, pay her $10,000 for the "intimate" photo of Garrett and Amy Duggar that she had. The photo in question, obtained by E! News, shows Amy, 25,...

It appears the Duggars squeaky-clean rep will remain just that (for now, anyway). The older man in the alleged "compromising" photos with 25-year-old Amy Duggar (the daughter of Jim Bob Duggar's older sister) thinks the whole extortion attempt is nothing more than humorous fodder. More: 19 Kids and Counting's Duggar Family Target of Alleged Extortion Plot Over "Intimate" Photos "We're all laughing about it," 56-year-old James Garrett told the Quad City Times Monday. In the photo in question, which Garrett shared with the Times, he is standing next to Amy onstage at the Little Opry Theater in Branson, Mo., and the shot looks rather...
