Elvis Presley‘s “A Little Less Conversation” was written by a country star. The star revealed what the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll wanted from the song. Monday’s Season 25 premiere of The Voice answered a question that had been left dangling since it was announced that Dan + Shay would be joining returnees John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire on the coaching panel: Would four-chair turns still be called four-chair turns… or five-, since technically both Dan and Shay would have seats?
The answer — and maybe this was only of such keen interest to Voice recappers — was that four-chair turns would remain four-chair turns (perhaps since the new coaches’ dual seat swivels as one). And right off the bat, a four-chair turn was what we got.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert premiered to a rapturous, midnight-screening reception at Cannes on May 15, 1994. The tart, feel-good comedy follows a trio of Sydney drag queens — Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce — who travel by bus (that’s Priscilla) to a gig in the Outback, finding their way into hijinks and eye-popping outfits along the way. The film became a crossover sensation and even won an Oscar for its costumes (this despite having a costume budget of approximately $5,000). Its writer-director Stephan Elliott joins THR‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast this week to reveal all about this making of the comedy classic on the cusp of its 30th birthday. Here are five facinating takeaways from the episode:

In the middle of Black Box Diaries, journalist Shiori Ito’s debut documentary, Ito grins at the camera as she strolls through downtown Tokyo on the day of her book launch. It’s October 18, 2017. The New York Times broke the Harvey Weinstein news two weeks ago. Alyssa Milano popularized the hashtag #MeToo two days ago. Ito, fresh-faced and 28, happily recounts these events to the camera. The world may finally be ready to listen to her.
It’s hard to imagine a time before the #MeToo genie was let out of its bottle, but that’s what Ito asks of viewers as they journey back with her to 2015, when she says she was raped by a senior journalist with connections to then-president Shinzo Abe. Through an incredible amount of personal documentation––primarily videos, audio recordings, and journal entries––she grants viewers unprecedented access into her experience as a woman seeking justice for sex crimes in Japan.

While they represent different generations of music, Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé warrant comparison because of their incredible vocal talents and charisma. Franklin revealed what she thought of the “Irreplaceable” singer. She also put her own spin on a Destiny’s Child song.
Why Aretha Franklin compared Beyoncé to Michael Jackson
During a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, the Queen of Soul revealed her thoughts on Queen B. “We have a lot of respect for each other,” Franklin said. “I love the beat of ‘Bootylicious.’ And ‘I’m a Survivor.'”
Franklin compared Beyoncé to another pop idol. “Beyoncé is a very hard-working woman,” she said. “Astrologically, for whatever it’s worth, she’s a Virgo — like Michael Jackson, a hard worker. She’s very pleasant. She’s complimentary to other artists.”
Franklin also praised Beyoncé for her commitment to political issues. “I think she just has a very positive message,” she said.

When people think of Jim Gillespie’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, they usually consider it a solid slasher. It certainly had an engaging lead cast—Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe—and a script from Scream creator himself, Kevin Williamson. It even spawned an Amazon Prime spinoff series and is being featured as part of a “High School Horror” category on the Criterion Channel.
But that’s not the film this article is about. This is about the 1998 sequel that has a less positive reputation: Danny Cannon’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which brought back Hewitt and Prinze Jr., but not Gillespie and Williamson. A lot of people tend to think of it as a lesser follow-up that is best left forgotten.

Madonna took to the stage Saturday evening for the first night of her rescheduled tour, and spoke publicly of her recent serious illness, telling her crowd, “I didn’t think I was going to make it.”
On stage at London’s O2 arena, she added, “Neither did my children, that’s why I woke up with them all around me.
“I forgot five days of my life – or my death. But the angels were protecting me. If you want to know my secret, how I survived, I thought, ‘I’ve got to be there for my children. I’ve got to pull through for them.’”
The 65-year-old star segued into an acoustic version of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. When the song reached the lyric “Did you think I’d lay down and die,” she paused and addressed the audience: “Well, did you?”

Madonna kicked off “The Celebration Tour” with the first of four performances at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night.
A true retrospective performance, the career-spanning setlist touched on all eras of Madonna’s career and featured numerous songs that hadn’t been performed in decades. The show opened with only the second performance ever of “N0thing Really Matters” from Ray of Light. A few songs later, she dusted off “Live to Tell” from True Blue for the first time since 2006.
Songs like “Justify My Love,” “Bad Girl,” and “Rain” were performed for the first time sine 1993, while “Bedtime Story” was dusted off for the first time since 1995. Other noteworthy performances included “Like A Prayer,” in which she was accompanied by topless dancers, an acoustic cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” and “Like a Virgin,” which was interpolated elements of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”

There’s a moment late on in the first night of Madonna‘s Celebration Tour when the Queen of Pop, acoustic guitar in hand, leads The O2 Arena in a solo rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s seminal disco hit ‘I Will Survive.’
It would be a fitting choice for any 65-year-old pop star who can still play a staggering six nights at an arena that fits 20,000 people, but for Madonna, the song seems even more appropriate. This tour, a career-spanning look back at 40 years at the top, was originally set...

Congressman Matt Gaetz plans to officially introduce a motion to vacate House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this week and, for Seth Meyers, it’s a bit like watching “Alien vs. Predator” play out in real life.
In his first show back following the end of the writers strike, Meyers did a speed run of the news he missed covering in the last five months, before turning the entire show into one big “A Closer Look” segment. In “A Closer Look: To the Max,” the NBC host dug a little deeper on some of the more current news stories, including Gaetz’s promise to oust McCarthy, after the speaker got support from Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.
“Gaetz vs McCarthy is a real ‘Alien vs Predator’ situation,” Meyers joked. “In fact, Gaetz and the alien have the same size forehead, so that’s pretty cool!”
Of course, Meyers’ mockery wasn’t just reserved for Gaetz.

To celebrate Moschino’s 40th anniversary, four celebrated stylists were asked to create a collection inspired by Franco Moschino’s iconic designs in the period between 1983 — when the designer’s flair and creative genius broke into the monotony of Milanese fashion with his innovative and unusual clothes — and 1993, the year of the last fashion show before his untimely death.
Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Lucia Liu are the creative souls who were given the task of putting together the collection, after the departure of previous creative director Jeremy Scott. Sitting in the front row was an attentive and vigiliant Alberta Ferretti — founder of the Aeffe group, the brand owner’s — enjoying the fruits of their labor, on such an important anniversary and with a fitting tribute to the brand’s founder.
For the show, titled “40 Years of Love,” each stylist brought 10 personal interpretations of Moschino’s unmistakable style.

In the larger-than-life world of lucha libre, there are “technicos” (good guys who fight for truth, justice, and the rule-abiding way) and there are “rudos” (villains who lie, cheat, and steal victories). There’s also a third category that’s neither hero nor heel, however, and that’s the “exotico.” A relatively late addition to Mexican wrestling’s stable of archetypes, these male luchadors often dressed in drag and played camped-up caricatures of feminine men. They were the target of taunting by homophobic crowds, a sort of toxified comic relief...

Stephen King has revealed that he was once such a fan of Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of…)” that his wife threatened divorce.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the King of Horror was asked about his obsession with the 1999 Latin pop hit, giving King the opportunity to share exactly how obsessed he was with a particular remix of the song. After admitting he was a “big time” fan of the track, King recalled how his wife was on her final straw.
“My wife threatened to divorce me,” he said. “I had the dance mix. I loved those extended play things, and I played both sides of it. And one of them was just total instrumental. And I played that thing until my wife just said, ‘One more time, and I’m going to fucking leave you.'”
Although King didn’t specifically name which “dance mix” of “Mambo No.

Perhaps the highlight of "Ted Lasso" season 1 is watching Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) slowly come around to Ted's point of view. Although AFC Richmond was full of grumpy characters in desperate need of Ted's positive influence, the vengeful Rebecca needed him the most. Slowly but surely, the audience learned that she was not only capable of kindness, but was in fact a straightforwardly kind person once you got to know her.
The first season's seventh episode, "Make Rebecca Great Again," revealed that the Rebecca we've known this whole time hasn't been the "real" Rebecca. So far, we'd only met her in the middle of the darkest period of her life. Years of mistreatment from her ex-husband Rupert had turned her into the worst version of herself; the fact that the tabloids were clearly taking Rupert's side in the divorce only drove her further into her bitterness. "The real Rebecca is silly.

Howie Mandel is under fire from America’s Got Talent fans after he blasted a performance by contestants The Rybka Twins as “a little corny” and claimed their synchronized acrobatic act “would not go viral on TikTok.” Twin sisters Sam and Teagan Rybka appeared on the long-running talent show on Tuesday, July 18, after judge Simon Cowell previously encouraged the girls to audition. But while Cowell and Heidi Klum enjoyed the performance, Mandel and Sofia Vergara weren’t quite as impressed. Dressed in matching neon yellow outfits, the twins performed a synchronized routine to “Sway” by The Pussycat Dolls and “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Trae Patton/NBC Mandel started off by saying he “could like it” as the twins “have the skill set,” but admitted he found the performance “a little corny.” As the studio audience booed the controversial judge’s comments, Mandel continued, “That would not go viral on TikTok.

“I found that a little corny,” Howie Mandel declared after watching The Rybka Twins perform their synchronized acrobatic routine during the July 18 episode of “America’s Got Talent.” The sisters from Perth, Australia previously met Simon Cowell on the “AGT” red carpet, where he told them to audition this year. Sure enough, they took him up on his offer, and the rest is history. While Simon and Heidi Klum were wowed by their performance on the big stage, Howie and Sofia Vergara were less enthused. Watch the video above.
Howie trashed the twins’ “music choice” and their “dance choice,” declaring, “That would not go viral on TikTok. Pick different music and pick different moves and make it for a younger audience. You’re 27.” For the record, their acrobatic dance routine was set to the tunes “Sway” by The Pussycat Dolls and “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.

When Gloria Gaynor watched the eponymous feature doc about the last eight years of her life, she thanked the director Betsy Schechter and started to sing a cappella. It was a moment that Schechter said she’d “never forget”.
Gaynor expected to do the same thing when Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive premieres at the Tribeca Festival on Friday.
The film has been a labor of love for Schechter, who runs Storyville Entertainment.
The doc tells Gaynor’s story – a career stalled by health issues and abuse and mismanagement from her now ex-husband – but it focuses on the last few years when she released a new gospel album, Testimony, which won her a second Grammy, 40 years after her first.
It chronicles this comeback journey and highlights the support from her manager Stephanie Gold and what it took to get back to where she is, having earned a psychology degree in her later years.
