Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and James Spader have joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, a biopic centered on the 16th President during the Civil War.
Daniel Day-Lewis is already on board in the title role and Sally Field is playing his wife, Mary Todd. Jones would play Congressman Thaddeus Stevens, a radical Republican that opposed Lincoln’s plans for the abolition of slavery. Gordon-Levitt would play Robert, Abraham Lincoln’s oldest son, who was said to have a distant relationship with his father.
Spader has also joined the cast in an unknown role, along with Hal Holbrook, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Joseph Cross, and Jeremy Strong, who is playing Lincoln’s private secretary, John George Nicolay, reports Variety. It should go without saying, but that is a monstrous cast of extremely talented actors. When Spielberg is ready to make a movie, actors line up.
